Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Arch Cape, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock Roofing could improve on informing me of outlying factors while they were completing the roof and they don't return calls. The roof placed on our home by Interlock Roofing leaks because the siding was bad on one side of the roof and Interlock Roofing did not inform me while they were replacing the roof. When I reached out to Interlock Roofing, they stated the siding was good when they placed the roof and stated they would replace the siding but they will no longer answer my phone calls and we still have a leaking roof.
We have only had our new roof for 3 months & we are so far satisfied with the quality of the materials. However, nearly every other part of our experience was less than satisfactory. We cannot risk our credibility to encourage someone we know to pay a premium price for this experience. Despite our request, we still have not received any documentation regarding our roof warranty nor information about future care/maintenance or repairs of the roof. And since our experience has been less than satisfying, we dread having to ever contact Interlock in the future for any assistance about the roof.
I have already recommended Interlock roofing and will continue to do so as I don’t think you could get a better roof for the money spent. The start time delays were the only issue for the whole job.
I would have liked them to use their own equipment instead of using my new ladder. Homeowner works on an oil tanker and will be away from the home for the next 2 months. He was there for the start of the project but not the completion. Wife signed off on the project with the contingency that he is satisfied with it when he finally come back to look at it.
We appreciate their understanding in terminating the contract.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Arch Cape
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Arch Cape, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Arch Cape.
Does metal roofing handle Arch Cape's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofing handles snow exceptionally well because its smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice rather than holding it. Arch Cape averages about 37 cm of snow annually, and with roughly 10 freeze-thaw days per year, traditional asphalt shingles can trap moisture and ice dams—metal does not. Interlock panels are warranted for wind gusts up to 120 mph, so the mechanical forces that push snow off your roof won't compromise the structure. The lightweight design also means no structural reinforcement is needed, even with seasonal snow load, making installation straightforward on existing homes.
How does a metal roof perform with Arch Cape's heavy rainfall?
Arch Cape receives approximately 1839 mm of rain annually, and metal roofing's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are specifically designed to shed water efficiently at that volume. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating overlaps that direct water downward and outward—not inward. The Guardian Warranty covers leak protection, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the system meets building code for water management. Properly installed, metal roofing over a solid deck and underlayment proves as watertight as asphalt, with the advantage that aluminum never absorbs moisture or rots, unlike wood or traditional materials.
Can metal roofing withstand Arch Cape's coastal wind gusts?
Arch Cape experiences typical daily winds around 20 km/h with gusts reaching 147 km/h—well within the range of Interlock's engineering. The system is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, thanks to the four-way interlocking design that distributes wind load across all adjoining panels rather than placing stress on fasteners alone. This mechanical interlock is why the product has been installed successfully in Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes worldwide. For your location's wind profile, the roof becomes more secure over time as the locks settle into their final grip.
Will a metal roof rust in Arch Cape's coastal climate?
No. Interlock roofing is manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust. Aluminum's oxide layer forms naturally and self-heals when scratched, so even in Arch Cape's salt-air environment—common in Clatsop County—the material remains stable. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel and is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding an extra barrier in coastal climates. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum requires none.
Do metal roofs really save on cooling costs in a cool climate like Arch Cape?
Yes, even in Arch Cape's cool 11.1°C mean temperature and 2897 annual sunshine hours, energy-efficient metal roofing reduces heat absorption. energy-efficient Interlock colors feature thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and holds—lowering cooling demand on warmer days and reducing your heating load during temperature swings. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance. Over a 50-year lifespan, the cumulative energy savings offset installation cost, and the reflective coating is warranted 30 years, so you benefit throughout the roof's life without maintenance or re-coating.
What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and can it lower insurance premiums?
Interlock metal roofing carries the highest available hail impact rating: UL 2218 Class 4. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—a comprehensive guarantee that demonstrates material resilience. Many homeowners have found that this Class 4 rating, combined with the non-combustible aluminum construction and the transferable 50-year limited warranty, qualifies them for insurance discounts. Contact your insurer with the product specs and ESR-1790 code evaluation; they often reduce premiums for roofs with superior impact and fire resistance. Over the roof's 50-year lifespan, such discounts add real value.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more initially, but it is the last roof you will install. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years and require tear-off replacement, sending tons to landfill. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and is transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. Over a 50-year holding period, you eliminate multiple asphalt replacements, their labor costs, and landfill disposal fees. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—significantly reduces the financial hurdle. When amortized across the roof's actual lifespan, metal roofing's cost per year is lower than serial asphalt replacement.
What warranty protection does Interlock metal roofing offer?
The Guardian Warranty provides lifetime limited, non-prorated coverage for the original owner against rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is transferable once, giving a subsequent owner 50 years of protection from the date of completion—an extraordinary advantage if you sell. The Alunar coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM standards. Aluminum's non-corrosive nature means the warranty remains meaningful throughout the roof's life; you will not face rust-through or structural decay that voids coverage. This combination of material science and warranty design gives homeowners genuine peace of mind across decades.
Can Interlock metal roofing be installed over my existing roof?
Yes, in most cases. The extraordinary light weight of Interlock panels—for example, the Shingle profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Tile at roughly 96% lighter than traditional clay or concrete tile—means no structural reinforcement is required, and installation typically proceeds over an existing roof. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., which has served the region since 1997, will assess your roof structure and advise whether removal is necessary or if overlay installation is safe and code-compliant under ICC-ES ESR-1790. Avoiding tear-off saves time, labor, and landfill impact; Interlock's light weight is one reason the system qualifies as a CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance upgrade.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, while asphalt shingles are largely landfilled and persist for decades. Because metal roofing lasts 50+ years—versus 15–25 years for asphalt—you avoid the cycle of repeated tear-off, disposal, and replacement that asphalt requires. Each tear-off sends tons of material to landfill; metal roofing ends that cycle for your home. When the time comes, aluminum scrap has real resale value, so recycling is economically attractive. The CALGreen verification recognizes Interlock's reduced-maintenance design and material longevity as genuine environmental benefits. Installing metal roofing is one of the highest-impact sustainability choices a homeowner can make.
