Review: October 26, 2020 Completion: July 7, 2020

Interlock Roofing could improve on informing me of outlying factors while they were completing the roof and they don't return calls. The roof placed on our home by Interlock Roofing leaks because the siding was bad on one side of the roof and Interlock Roofing did not inform me while they were replacing the roof. When I reached out to Interlock Roofing, they stated the siding was good when they placed the roof and stated they would replace the siding but they will no longer answer my phone calls and we still have a leaking roof.

Review: January 11, 2023 Completion: October 25, 2022

We have only had our new roof for 3 months & we are so far satisfied with the quality of the materials. However, nearly every other part of our experience was less than satisfactory. We cannot risk our credibility to encourage someone we know to pay a premium price for this experience. Despite our request, we still have not received any documentation regarding our roof warranty nor information about future care/maintenance or repairs of the roof. And since our experience has been less than satisfying, we dread having to ever contact Interlock in the future for any assistance about the roof.

I have already recommended Interlock roofing and will continue to do so as I don’t think you could get a better roof for the money spent. The start time delays were the only issue for the whole job.

I would have liked them to use their own equipment instead of using my new ladder. Homeowner works on an oil tanker and will be away from the home for the next 2 months. He was there for the start of the project but not the completion. Wife signed off on the project with the contingency that he is satisfied with it when he finally come back to look at it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Burnside

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Burnside, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Burnside.

Does a metal roof handle Burnside's snow and ice the way asphalt does?

Metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice dam buildup in Burnside's typical 36 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, so the weight of snow—your area averages 48 cm annually—won't shift panels loose or cause leaks. Unlike asphalt, which softens and absorbs moisture during thaw cycles, aluminum oxide's self-healing protective layer stays intact through repeated temperature swings. Snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled release, but the metal's inherent durability means you're not fighting ice damage year after year.

With 1468 mm of rain per year, how does metal roofing prevent leaks in Burnside?

Burnside receives about 1468 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed that volume reliably. Each profile overlaps its neighbors on all sides, creating a continuous water-shedding system verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 (the current building-code standard). The panels themselves cannot rot or degrade like asphalt or wood—aluminum's oxide layer is self-healing, so tiny scratches from installation or weather don't invite moisture inside. You can install new Interlock panels directly over your existing roof, which means no exposed decking and no added vulnerability during the installation window. Proper fastening and flashing, handled by our local installer, complete the protection.

Are metal roof panels secure in Burnside's coastal wind gusts?

Yes. Burnside sits in Clatsop County where typical gusts exceed 116 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design means wind cannot lift or separate adjacent panels—each corner locks into its neighbor. The warranty explicitly covers wind damage, so you're protected against the coastal gusts that can loosen or tear asphalt shingles. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has been serving this region since 1997 and understands Clatsop County's wind patterns. Proper fastening per ICC-ES ESR-1790 ensures your roof stays tight through decades of Pacific Northwest weather.

Why won't a metal roof rust in coastal Burnside air?

Interlock panels are made from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and aluminum contains zero iron—the element that rusts. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopically thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects against salt air and moisture. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel adds 30 years of additional protection against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). Burnside's ~1468 mm annual rainfall and coastal salt spray would accelerate rust on steel, but aluminum thrives in these conditions. Interlock has installed roofs from salt-air coastal homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998—Burnside's climate is well within its proven range.

Does hail damage hurt a metal roof, and can it lower insurance costs?

Interlock aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—meaning they resist hailstones up to 1.5 inches without perforation. Burnside's annual hail risk is moderate given your ~2957 hours of sunshine, but when storms do occur, the aluminum's rigidity and thickness absorb impact better than asphalt or wood shakes. The Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hail up to 1.5 inches, so you're protected against the rare severe event. Many homeowners report lower insurance premiums because metal roofs resist impact damage and fire (Class A non-combustible available), and the warranty's credibility carries weight with underwriters. Ask your agent about discounts specific to impact-rated metal roofing.

How long will a metal roof last, and what does the warranty really cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds real value to resale. Aluminum doesn't rot or curl like wood or asphalt, and the 30-year coating warranty on both sides of the panel ensures color and finish remain stable through Burnside's 36 freeze-thaw days annually. Combined with the four-way interlocking design that prevents wind separation, you're looking at a roof that outlasts asphalt by decades while requiring far less maintenance. This is genuinely the last roof you'll buy for your home.

Will my home's structure need reinforcement for a metal roof?

No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, the heaviest, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. The Cedar Shingle installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft. This extraordinary lightness means you can install Interlock directly over your existing asphalt roof without structural reinforcement, saving thousands in framing work. Aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio lets it span Burnside's typical roof geometry without additional support even after heavy snow accumulation (~48 cm annually). Your home's structure sees less stress over the roof's lifetime, and the installation process is faster because carpenters aren't reinforcing rafters or joists. Lighter load also reduces strain during the wind gusts (up to 116 km/h) your region experiences.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over 40 or 50 years?

Yes, when you calculate the true cost of ownership. An asphalt roof lasts 15-20 years and requires replacement twice, plus regular maintenance and eventual landfill disposal, while Interlock's lifetime warranty means one installation and no roof-related replacements for your ownership. Energy-efficient Interlock colors (energy-efficient, thermal emissivity 0.84, solar reflectance up to 0.55) reduce cooling costs in Burnside's ~2957 annual sunshine hours. The transferable warranty adds 50 years of value to the next owner, boosting resale appeal. Current financing offers (no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation) lower the entry cost significantly. Over 50 years, metal typically costs less than two asphalt replacements, plus you recycle 95% of the aluminum at the end, versus landfill asphalt shingles.

Is a metal roof fire-safe, and does that matter in Burnside?

Interlock aluminum panels are non-combustible and available with a Class A fire rating (the highest standard), meaning they won't ignite or spread flame. Aluminum cannot burn because it contains no organic material; the fluorocarbon coating is also fire-resistant. Burnside's ~1468 mm annual rainfall and coastal location mean wildfire risk is lower than inland Oregon, but Class A fire protection still matters for insurance rates and peace of mind—particularly if your home is near vegetation or in a defensible-space context. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC fire standards. Non-combustibility also improves your home's overall safety profile in an emergency, and insurers recognize this as a reduction in liability.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Interlock panels require virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning—far less than asphalt, wood, or tile roofs. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection for curling, moss removal, and eventual replacement within 15-20 years; wood shakes require sealing, moss treatment, and splinter repairs. Concrete or clay tile absorbs moisture and cracks in Burnside's 36 freeze-thaw cycles per year, and cracked tiles must be replaced individually. Aluminum cannot rot, curl, split, or crack, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists algae and weathering for 30 years (ASTM D4214 / D2244 verified). CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, Interlock panels stay attractive and protective with only the same gutter upkeep any roof needs. The Guardian Warranty covers impact and coating performance, so repair costs are predictable—essentially zero.
