Review: October 26, 2020 Completion: July 7, 2020

Interlock Roofing could improve on informing me of outlying factors while they were completing the roof and they don't return calls. The roof placed on our home by Interlock Roofing leaks because the siding was bad on one side of the roof and Interlock Roofing did not inform me while they were replacing the roof. When I reached out to Interlock Roofing, they stated the siding was good when they placed the roof and stated they would replace the siding but they will no longer answer my phone calls and we still have a leaking roof.

Review: January 11, 2023 Completion: October 25, 2022

We have only had our new roof for 3 months & we are so far satisfied with the quality of the materials. However, nearly every other part of our experience was less than satisfactory. We cannot risk our credibility to encourage someone we know to pay a premium price for this experience. Despite our request, we still have not received any documentation regarding our roof warranty nor information about future care/maintenance or repairs of the roof. And since our experience has been less than satisfying, we dread having to ever contact Interlock in the future for any assistance about the roof.

I have already recommended Interlock roofing and will continue to do so as I don’t think you could get a better roof for the money spent. The start time delays were the only issue for the whole job.

I would have liked them to use their own equipment instead of using my new ladder. Homeowner works on an oil tanker and will be away from the home for the next 2 months. He was there for the start of the project but not the completion. Wife signed off on the project with the contingency that he is satisfied with it when he finally come back to look at it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cannon Beach

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cannon Beach.

Why won't my metal roof rust like steel roofing does, especially living this close to the coast?

Aluminum roofing cannot rust because the metal contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. Even if that layer gets scratched, it repairs itself. In Cannon Beach's salt-air environment with over 1800 mm of annual rain and coastal spray, this matters enormously. Steel roofs require constant vigilance against corrosion; your aluminum roof handles marine conditions passively. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides adds a 30-year warranty against fading and chalking, giving you a double line of defense in this aggressive setting.

How does a metal roof handle Cannon Beach winters with snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice effectively because its smooth surface prevents accumulation and the material's light weight means no structural strain from snow load. Cannon Beach sees about 37 cm of snow annually and roughly 10 freeze-thaw days per year, conditions that crack asphalt shingles but leave aluminum unaffected. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that ice dams cannot work their way into seams. You can add snow guards if desired for visual continuity, but the metal itself won't split, curl, or degrade from thermal cycling—asphalt inevitably does. This makes it the last roof you'll install in this climate.

Will a metal roof stay secure during Cannon Beach's coastal wind gusts?

Your metal roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Cannon Beach averages daily winds around 20 km/h, but gusts reach 147 km/h—that's 91 mph. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together at every seam, distributing wind pressure across the entire roof system rather than stressing individual fasteners like asphalt shingles do. The panels' light weight (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means wind has less material to push against, reducing uplift forces. Coastal winds that bend and tear asphalt simply shed off a metal roof, leaving the structure intact.

Do I need to reinforce my roof frame before installing a metal roof, or can it go over my existing shingles?

No structural reinforcement needed. The Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Shake at 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile at about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness means your home's frame carries virtually no additional load, and in most cases the metal roof installs directly over your existing asphalt shingles, saving you tear-off costs and landfill waste. Because Cannon Beach experiences about 37 cm of snow annually and occasional coastal wind gusts to 147 km/h, that minimal added weight is genuinely advantageous—your structure handles seasonal stress more easily.

With Cannon Beach getting nearly 1840 mm of rain a year, how leak-proof is a metal roof?

Metal roofing is inherently leak-proof because water cannot pool or saturate the material itself—aluminum is impervious. With four-way interlocking panels, water moves across the surface and sheds downward; the overlapping design means any moisture trying to travel horizontally is blocked by a locked seam. In climates like Cannon Beach receiving about 1839 mm of annual rainfall, this matters. A properly installed metal roof with solid deck and quality underlayment (which deadens rain noise) keeps water out more reliably than asphalt, which absorbs moisture, ages, and eventually develops pinhole leaks. Metal never absorbs, never rots, never requires patching.

Can a metal roof actually lower my cooling costs, or is that just marketing?

energy-efficient colors on your metal roof reflect heat rather than absorb it, reducing cooling demand. Interlock's cool-rated finishes achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55—meaning more sunlight bounces back to the sky instead of heating your attic. Cannon Beach receives about 2897 hours of annual sunshine, making this reflectivity meaningful across the year. Asphalt shingles absorb that same sun, transferring heat into your home. Over 50 years, the difference in HVAC runtime compounds significantly. You're also trading the asphalt cycle—tear-off to landfill every 15–20 years—for a roof that lasts a lifetime without replacement labor or disposal costs.

Is hail damage a real concern for metal roofing, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock Metal Roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available—it withstands the same hail that damages or destroys asphalt and concrete roofs. The Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Cannon Beach's climate data shows typical conditions of about 20 km/h winds and 10 freeze-thaw days rather than severe hail, the Class 4 rating means you're protected if an unusual event occurs. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because claims are so rare. Unlike asphalt—which dents, splits, and loses granules—aluminum's impact resistance never degrades, so the warranty stays in force across the roof's entire 50-year transferable lifespan.

What's the actual warranty, and how does the transferable feature work when I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—things that plague asphalt but never happen to aluminum. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That one-time transfer means your buyer inherits decades of protection, significantly boosting home value in Cannon Beach's challenging marine climate with 1839 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw stress. No other roofing material—asphalt, wood, concrete tile—offers non-prorated, transferable coverage. You install it once and never revisit the roof frame again.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or cedar shake?

Metal requires minimal maintenance—occasional gutter cleaning and visual inspection. Asphalt shingles demand attention: you replace granules every few years, patch leaks, nail down curled edges, and plan a complete tear-off around year 20. Cedar shake splits from freeze-thaw cycles (Cannon Beach experiences about 10 per year) and rots in the constant 1839 mm annual rainfall. Concrete tile cracks under thermal stress and becomes heavy, straining your structure. Aluminum never splits, rots, or curls. The Alunar coating carries a 30-year warranty against fading and chalking. You avoid the asphalt cycle entirely—no tear-off, no disposal, no repeated labor costs. CALGreen verification confirms the material's reduced-maintenance profile.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of your home?

Compare 50+ years with one installation versus replacing asphalt every 15–20 years. Over five decades, you'd remove and dispose of three asphalt roofs—that's tear-off labor, landfill fees, and reinstallation costs repeated. Metal costs more initially but eliminates replacement cycles. In Cannon Beach's 1839 mm annual rainfall and 37 cm snow environment, asphalt degrades faster; metal extends ownership to true lifespan. The one-time transferable warranty to your next owner adds resale value immediately. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Plus, asphalt becomes landfill waste; aluminum is ~95% recyclable, ending the extraction-disposal loop and lowering your environmental cost basis.
