Review: January 11, 2023Completion: October 25, 2022

We have only had our new roof for 3 months & we are so far satisfied with the quality of the materials. However, nearly every other part of our experience was less than satisfactory. We cannot risk our credibility to encourage someone we know to pay a premium price for this experience. Despite our request, we still have not received any documentation regarding our roof warranty nor information about future care/maintenance or repairs of the roof. And since our experience has been less than satisfying, we dread having to ever contact Interlock in the future for any assistance about the roof.

I have already recommended Interlock roofing and will continue to do so as I don’t think you could get a better roof for the money spent. The start time delays were the only issue for the whole job.

I would have liked them to use their own equipment instead of using my new ladder. Homeowner works on an oil tanker and will be away from the home for the next 2 months. He was there for the start of the project but not the completion. Wife signed off on the project with the contingency that he is satisfied with it when he finally come back to look at it.

Review: October 26, 2020Completion: July 7, 2020

Interlock Roofing could improve on informing me of outlying factors while they were completing the roof and they don't return calls. The roof placed on our home by Interlock Roofing leaks because the siding was bad on one side of the roof and Interlock Roofing did not inform me while they were replacing the roof. When I reached out to Interlock Roofing, they stated the siding was good when they placed the roof and stated they would replace the siding but they will no longer answer my phone calls and we still have a leaking roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Westport

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Westport, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Westport.

Will a metal roof rust in Westport's salt air and wet climate?

No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. With Westport's average 1805 mm of annual rainfall and coastal moisture, this matters: aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, unlike steel. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against fading. That double-sided coating is specifically there for salt-air protection. Steel roofing would require constant maintenance; aluminum simply doesn't degrade that way.

How does a metal roof handle Westport's snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt shingles because their smooth, sealed surface prevents the adhesion that traps meltwater. Westport averages about 55 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 22 freeze-thaw cycles per year—exactly the conditions where ice dams form on conventional roofs. The lightweight design (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no snow load concerns or structural reinforcement needed. Optional snow guards are available if you want to control runoff direction. The sealed panel joints also prevent water infiltration during the thaw cycles common in your region.

Can a metal roof withstand Westport's coastal wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock's panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and Westport's typical gusts reach about 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. That engineering, combined with the lightweight aluminum (no uplift stress), makes wind one of the easier climate challenges here. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms this performance under IBC/IRC code, so your installer and insurance company both have third-party verification.

Do I need to reinforce my house before installing a metal roof?

Almost certainly not. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural modification. Even the heaviest profile won't approach the load of traditional materials. Westport homes, whether built for coast conditions or not, won't need costly framing upgrades. This lightweight advantage also means faster installation and lower labor costs, and it eliminates the expense many homeowners face with slate or tile. You can even install over your existing asphalt shingles if conditions permit, avoiding a costly tear-off.

Will heavy rain leak through a metal roof?

No. Westport receives about 1805 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's design handles that without leaks when installed correctly. The four-way interlocking panels create a sealed system where each piece overlaps and locks to its neighbors—water cannot penetrate the seams. Combined with proper underlayment and flashing (which your installer specifies), the roof sheds water like a traditional shingle roof, only more reliably because there's no wood to absorb moisture or metal fasteners to create leak points. The panel profiles (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) all channel water downward; none trap it.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a significant resale advantage. With Westport's 22 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 1805 mm rain, durability matters, and aluminum by nature doesn't rot or rust. The Alunar coating carries its own 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. Many Interlock roofs installed since 1998 in far harsher environments (Antarctic research stations, coastal salt-air homes) are still performing. This is the last roof you'll buy.

Is a metal roof fireproof?

Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and achieves Class A fire classification (the highest available), which may lower your insurance premium. Aluminum contains no wood fibers or organic binders that fuel fire. That matters less in Westport's wet climate (1805 mm rain annually) than in drier regions, but it's a safety benefit regardless and a selling point if you ever transfer the roof's one-time transferable warranty to a future buyer. Class A rating also satisfies CALGreen energy code requirements for reduced maintenance and fire resistance. If fire safety or code compliance is a concern in your neighborhood, this roof delivers certainty.

How long does it take to install a metal roof in Westport?

Installation timeline depends on roof complexity and size, but Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served your region since 1997 and knows local conditions—they can advise on weather windows around Westport's rainy season (averaging about 150 wet days annually). One major advantage: the lightweight panels (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) install faster than slate or tile, and they can often go directly over your existing roof, skipping the tear-off that usually adds weeks and cost. Your installer will assess your deck and specify underlayment and flashing. Currently, Interlock is offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—worth discussing timing with them.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

On a lifecycle basis, yes. Asphalt shingles last 15-20 years in Westport's 1805 mm rainfall and 22 annual freeze-thaw cycles; you'll replace them two or three times in the roof's life. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime warranty and proven durability since 1998 mean you'll buy once. Factor in the transfer value (50 years for the next owner), potential insurance savings (Class A fire rating), no maintenance costs, and the elimination of landfill disposal, and the math favors metal. Westport's coastal environment is particularly hard on asphalt. The current promotion—no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off—also improves the financial case. Ask your installer for a 50-year cost comparison.

They're familiar with Westport building codes and can confirm ESR-1790 compliance with your local authority. Currently offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Is a metal roof a good choice for Westport’s climate?

Yes. Westport averages about 55 cm of snow, 1805 mm of rain, roughly 22 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
