Review: October 26, 2020 Completion: July 7, 2020

Interlock Roofing could improve on informing me of outlying factors while they were completing the roof and they don't return calls. The roof placed on our home by Interlock Roofing leaks because the siding was bad on one side of the roof and Interlock Roofing did not inform me while they were replacing the roof. When I reached out to Interlock Roofing, they stated the siding was good when they placed the roof and stated they would replace the siding but they will no longer answer my phone calls and we still have a leaking roof.

Review: January 11, 2023 Completion: October 25, 2022

We have only had our new roof for 3 months & we are so far satisfied with the quality of the materials. However, nearly every other part of our experience was less than satisfactory. We cannot risk our credibility to encourage someone we know to pay a premium price for this experience. Despite our request, we still have not received any documentation regarding our roof warranty nor information about future care/maintenance or repairs of the roof. And since our experience has been less than satisfying, we dread having to ever contact Interlock in the future for any assistance about the roof.

Review: October 27, 2021 Completion: September 14, 2021

I have already recommended Interlock roofing and will continue to do so as I don’t think you could get a better roof for the money spent. The start time delays were the only issue for the whole job.

I would have liked them to use their own equipment instead of using my new ladder. Homeowner works on an oil tanker and will be away from the home for the next 2 months. He was there for the start of the project but not the completion. Wife signed off on the project with the contingency that he is satisfied with it when he finally come back to look at it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Clatsop Plains

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Clatsop Plains, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Clatsop Plains.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Clatsop County?

Metal roofing handles snow loads exceptionally well because of its light weight—Interlock Slate installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, so it won't overburden your home's structure even after Clatsop Plains' typical 37 cm annual snowfall accumulates. The smooth aluminum surface sheds snow and ice more readily than asphalt, and the four-way interlocking panels (rated to 120 mph wind speeds) keep panels firmly seated during the freeze-thaw cycles that occur roughly 10 times each winter here. Optional snow guards are available to manage sliding on steep pitches, giving you complete control without structural upgrades.

Will a metal roof leak in Clatsop Plains' rainy climate?

With about 1839 mm of annual rainfall in Clatsop Plains, leak protection is paramount—and four-way interlocking aluminum panels create overlapping seals at every edge, shedding water away from the deck with the same reliability as a solid metal surface. The interlocking design means no fasteners pierce the top face of the roof, and when installed over a solid deck with underlayment (as most are), water has nowhere to go but down and out through your gutters. Interlock panels are manufactured to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, ensuring they meet building code rainfall and drainage requirements for Oregon.

Do metal roofs rust? Why does aluminum work better than steel on the Oregon coast?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath and self-heals if scratched. In Clatsop County's salt-air environment, this is a game-changer: Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against fading), giving it a two-part defense that steel roofing simply cannot match. Steel requires constant maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum gets tougher over time.

Can a metal roof survive Clatsop Plains' winter gusts?

Yes. The region experiences gusts up to 147 km/h, and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panel design means each piece locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering is validated by UL testing and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation, so you're covered by both warranty and code compliance. Winter storms here won't lift, separate, or degrade your roof.

Does metal roofing help reduce cooling costs in summer?

Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning less heat transfers into your home even during Clatsop Plains' 2897 annual sunshine hours. This reflective property is measured and certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council, a third-party standard. While Clatsop County's temperate climate (mean 11.1°C) doesn't create extreme cooling demands like hotter regions, the energy advantage compounds year-round: lower radiant heat means your HVAC works less, and in autumn and spring, the effect is tangible on utility bills.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and can it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Although Clatsop Plains doesn't experience severe hail, this rating demonstrates the roof's durability against all impact events and may qualify you for insurance discounts or credits in some policies. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification; many carriers recognize metal's superior impact resistance as a risk reduction and may lower premiums. It's worth a conversation before you install.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and how long will it really last?

Interlock comes with the Guardian Warranty—a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner that covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. If you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner with a 50-year term from completion, adding resale appeal. In Clatsop County's wet, moderate climate with about 37 cm of snow and 10 freeze-thaw cycles yearly, this durability matters: aluminum panels manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC have proven themselves from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. You're buying a roof designed to outlast the house.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt or wood. You'll rinse debris twice yearly (especially important in Clatsop Plains with 1839 mm annual rainfall), check gutters, and inspect after severe weather—but that's it. Asphalt shingles deteriorate and require repairs or replacement within 15–20 years; wood shakes split, curl, and rot within similar timeframes, especially in freeze-thaw cycles (Clatsop County averages 10 per winter). Aluminum doesn't rot, doesn't require sealing, and the Alunar fluorocarbon coating (30-year warranty) resists chalking and fading without refinishing. CALGreen-verified as reduced-maintenance, Interlock metal roofing is essentially set-it-and-forget-it.

Is a metal roof heavy? Will my home need structural reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile of similar appearance. Even Clatsop Plains homes with older framing can safely support this weight, and most roofs install directly over existing asphalt shingles without upgrading trusses or rafters. This is a massive cost and hassle advantage: you avoid structural engineering, permit delays, and contractor expenses. The lightweight aluminum also means installation is faster, which in Oregon's wet season is a genuine benefit—your roofers finish sooner.
