Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Arnolds Corner, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Thank you for the time and energy spend on the product presentation and consultation.
Better communication overall, especially by email (so many phone calls these days are crooks and scammers that I tend to ignore the phone). And it would be good to have one person on the job at all times who can communicate clearly in English. That last day nobody could remember where they had left the bird feeder that had been hanging in front, and I wasn't sure I was getting though to them what was missing. We just got lucky that as I was watching them scroll through the photos on their digital camera to look for it, I noticed where it was hanging with my mermaid windsock on the big oak in the front yard.
Addressed to: Popular Mechanics I have read your recent issue which included a section about roofing materials. I was surprised your excellent publication did not include information about aluminum metal roofs in that section. We recently had one installed and are quite pleased with the appearance. Our roof was installed by Interlock Industries, based in Vancouver. Their shingles come in many " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">colors and somewhat resemble the look of an asphalt shingle roof. However, unlike asphalt shingle and other roofing types, our roof has a lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable factory " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. It is fireproof, rot proof, energy efficient and can withstand winds in excess of 100mph. The ">cost per square foot is more expensive than asphalt shingle but not much more expensive than a 30 year warranted asphalt roof. Much has been written concerning the rapid deterioration of today's asphalt roofs and I would suspect your readers would be interested in learning more. And, no, we don't hear "pitter patter" when it rains!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Arnolds Corner
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Arnolds Corner, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Arnolds Corner.
Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl after 80 freeze-thaw days per year, aluminum panels have zero porosity, so water cannot penetrate the material and expand when frozen. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is tested to withstand extreme thermal cycling. With about 120 cm of snow and typical winter temperatures around 11°C mean, your roof experiences constant temperature swings; aluminum's non-porous nature means each cycle strengthens rather than weakens the roof.
How does metal roofing handle heavy snow in Arnolds Corner?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock snow and ice in place, preventing dangerous sliding while the lightweight design—about 0.41 lb per square foot for the Shingle profile—adds no structural burden. With annual snowfall around 120 cm, the low weight is a real advantage: you won't need costly frame reinforcement like you would with slate or concrete tile. The tight seams also eliminate the ice-dam leaks common on asphalt roofs. Snow guards are available if you prefer maximum retention, giving you complete control over shedding.
Does metal roofing leak in heavy rain? What about Arnolds Corner's wet climate?
Heavy rain is no concern for Interlock metal roofing. Arnolds Corner receives about 1,264 mm of annual rainfall, and the four-way interlocking system creates a water-shedding surface that channels moisture away before it reaches the deck. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, so there are no large seams for water to exploit. When installed over a solid deck with underlayment—the standard here—the system is as watertight as traditional roofing, with zero risk of the granule loss and seam separation that plague asphalt shingles after years of heavy rain.
Can aluminum roofing rust? I'm worried about salt air and damp winters.
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—that's the core advantage over steel roofing. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, a property the material has had since its commercial invention. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every Interlock panel, providing a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. This dual-sided coating is especially important in salt-air environments and damp climates like Rhode Island, where humidity and freeze-thaw cycles would corrode steel in years.
Will my metal roof hold up in Rhode Island windstorms?
Absolutely. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Arnolds Corner experiences typical gusts around 125 km/h (78 mph), with recorded extremes higher, so the warranty provides a 40+ mph safety margin above local conditions. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors in all directions, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineering gives you peace of mind during nor'easters and spring storms.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
Interlock's exceptional lightness—the Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—means most existing roofs need zero structural reinforcement. Your framing was designed for the weight of your current asphalt shingles; you can install a new Interlock roof directly over that deck without adding joists or headers. This saves thousands in structural work and lets you avoid a full tear-off if your current roof is still sound. The shake profile weighs about 0.58 lb per square foot, so even the heaviest Interlock option is negligible compared to traditional tile.
What's the hail rating for Interlock, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hail damage is relatively uncommon in Arnolds Corner's climate, but the robust rating is backed by real testing and covered by warranty, not just marketing. Many insurance companies offer modest discounts for Class 4 roofing because it dramatically reduces claim risk. It's worth asking your agent about discounts before installation; the combination of impact resistance and a lifetime limited warranty may justify a rate reduction.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Interlock metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need regular inspections, granule-loss monitoring, and frequent repairs; wood shakes suffer from moss, rot, and splitting; tile cracks and requires spot replacement. Aluminum panels with a 30-year PVDF coating simply shed dirt and debris during your 1,264 mm of annual rainfall. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance versus traditional materials. Occasional gutter cleaning is all that's needed. This simplicity becomes especially valuable over 50+ years: you're not budgeting for repairs, spot replacements, or early re-roofing like you would with asphalt.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, substantially. Interlock aluminum panels are about 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills where they persist for decades. Over 50 years, choosing metal means zero tear-off-to-landfill cycles; at recycling, the aluminum is melted down for new products. The material requires no mining per installation (recycled aluminum uses 95% less energy than virgin), and energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt, reducing your cooling load during Arnolds Corner's roughly 3,075 annual sunshine hours. One roof, one lifetime, minimal waste—it's the circular-economy choice for a long-term Rhode Island home.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Arnolds Corner, Rhode Island?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999, bringing 25+ years of experience with four-way interlocking aluminum panels in New England's demanding climate. They understand the specific challenges of Washington County's 80 freeze-thaw days per year, heavy snow, and coastal influences. They're trained on the ICC-ES ESR-1790 installation requirements and the Guardian Warranty terms, ensuring your roof meets code and maintains full coverage. Their local presence means faster response times, familiarity with your building department, and accountability in your community.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Arnolds Corner’s climate?
Yes. Arnolds Corner averages about 75 cm of snow, 1264 mm of rain, roughly 80 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 125 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
