I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Glocester

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Glocester, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Glocester.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Rhode Island damage a metal roof?

No—aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycling. Glocester experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, which is brutal on asphalt and wood but poses no risk to aluminum. The material doesn't absorb water, so ice buildup can't expand inside the panel and cause cracking or splitting the way it does with slate or wood shakes. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy won't become brittle in cold or warp in thaw. Your roof's enemy is moisture trapped inside, not the temperature swings themselves.

How does metal roofing handle Glocester's snow load?

Interlock's light weight—the Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft—allows the roof to shed snow cleanly without the structural burden of traditional tile or slate. Glocester averages about 76 cm of snow annually. The smooth, tight interlocking seams prevent water from migrating under panels during melt cycles, and you can add snow guards to any profile if you want to control where snow slides. The four-way interlock system also resists the racking stress that wind-driven snow creates, so panels won't separate or loosen.

Does heavy rain ever leak through a metal roof?

Not if installed properly, and Glocester's 1,198 mm of annual rainfall puts your roof to work. The four-way interlocking panels are designed so water flows downslope and is shed by gravity—not absorbed or trapped. Leaks occur when fasteners back out, flashing is compromised, or panels are bent, not from the metal itself. When Interlock Metal Roofing installs to ICC-ES ESR-1790 spec with proper deck prep and underlayment, water has no path inside. The underlayment under a solid deck mimics asphalt roofing in its quiet, dry performance.

Can a metal roof handle Rhode Island's coastal wind gusts?

Yes. Glocester wind gusts regularly reach 118 km/h, and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The strength comes from the four-way interlocking aluminum panels—each panel locks into its neighbors on all four edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating also validates the structural integrity that resists wind racking.

Will my insurance company give me a discount for a metal roof?

Many do, and Interlock metal roofing makes a strong case for it. The roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That hard performance record means some carriers reduce premiums for metal roofs because claims are rare. Contact your agent with the Class 4 rating and ask for a quote comparison; the discount often pays back a portion of the install cost over just a few years. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) can provide documentation to support your claim.

Why won't a metal roof rust like a steel gutter?

Because Interlock uses aluminum alloy (3105-H24 or 3003-H24), not steel. Aluminum contains no iron—iron is what rusts. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that seals the surface and actually heals itself when scratched or damaged. Over Glocester's 1,198 mm of rain and 76 cm of snow per year, this self-healing oxide provides continuous corrosion protection. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides) adds another 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you two independent defenses against the wet Rhode Island climate.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the heft of traditional clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. That's light enough to install directly over most existing asphalt roofs without engineering upgrades. Because the aluminum carries no water weight (it sheds instantly and doesn't absorb moisture), you avoid the expensive bracing and framing modifications that slate or real tile demand. This savings alone often covers a portion of the install cost.

Is metal roofing worth the cost compared to re-shingling?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but is the last roof you'll buy. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years; you'll replace it twice in the lifetime Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers for the original owner. Over 50+ years, the total cost of ownership—tear-off labor, disposal, new install, repeated repairs—heavily favors metal. Asphalt also requires maintenance: moss removal, patching, ventilation management. Interlock eliminates that cycle. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—reduces the financial barrier and locks in today's pricing before material costs rise.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Essentially none. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade and require moss removal, gutters that clog, or wood shakes that rot and split, Interlock metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The tight interlocks and smooth metal surface shed debris; gutters stay cleaner. Over Glocester's 83 freeze-thaw days per year, you won't face the wood-rot or asphalt-crack cycle that demands repairs. Occasional visual inspection is prudent, but the roof doesn't need cleaning, sealing, or patching. The coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning your roof maintains its appearance and function without the labor your neighbors invest in traditional roofing.

How is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is about 95% recyclable and never ends up in a landfill. Asphalt roofing is torn off every 15–20 years and sent to waste; multiply that across thousands of Glocester homes over decades and you're talking about enormous landfill volume. Interlock's roof lasts 50+ years before recycling becomes relevant, so it eliminates the tear-off-and-dump cycle entirely during your ownership and likely your next owner's. The aluminum also qualifies for energy-efficiency rating in certain colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance), meaning it reflects the heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling loads over 3,050 annual sunshine hours. Less energy use, zero waste, one installation.
