Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation

I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!

Review: September 16, 2007 Completion: July 24, 2007

The Interlock Roofing System installed on our home has changed the entire look of the building. It has made the house stand out from the other homes on the street. I am happy to say that the new roof has met or surpassed all that we had hoped for. Not only has it improved the look of the house, but, as you mentioned, it has lowered the temperature of the second floor during the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot summer months. The snow catchers placed on the front porch look as decorative as well as functional. It is comforting to know as I approach retirement age, that I will never have the expense of replacing the roof again, nor will I have to worry about leaks in the future. I would also like to comment on the work team that did the installation. I have never had a contractor come in and work as hard as they did. They basically worked from dawn to dusk. I was amazed that they were able to complete the job in about two and a half days, especially considering that they had to redo all the sheathing on our roof. I thank you and your workers for a job well done.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Graniteville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Graniteville, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Graniteville.

Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes — aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Graniteville experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, where moisture gets into asphalt shingles, expands when frozen, and cracks the material. Aluminum is non-porous, so it won't absorb water. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and it doesn't expand and contract the way asphalt or wood does, so it stays intact through repeated freezing. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against the chalking and brittleness that typically follow harsh seasonal swings.

How does metal roofing handle the snow load here?

Metal roofing handles Graniteville's average 76 centimeters of annual snowfall with ease, primarily because it's extraordinarily light. The Interlock Shingle profile installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so no structural reinforcement is needed. The smooth, hard surface also sheds snow and ice far better than rough asphalt, reducing the weight that sits on your roof. Snow guards can be added if you want to control where snow slides. Most homeowners find their metal roof clears itself more quickly than they expected, especially on south-facing slopes with 3050 hours of annual sunshine.

Why can't aluminum rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust requires iron to form. The moment aluminum is exposed to air, it forms a thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. If that layer is scratched (by a branch, for example), a new one forms automatically. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection in salt-air or moist environments. In Graniteville's damp climate with 1198 mm of annual rain, this corrosion immunity is a genuine advantage over steel that eventually oxidizes and deteriorates.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No. The Interlock Tile profile, for instance, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so most existing roof structures can support it without any reinforcement. This is one of metal roofing's biggest practical advantages. You can often install over your existing asphalt shingles, saving time and tear-off costs. Because the material is so light, installation is faster and safer for crews, and your home's framing doesn't face the additional load burden that traditional heavy materials impose. This matters especially in older homes where structural capacity may already be marginal.

Will metal roofing stay put in Graniteville's storms?

Absolutely. Graniteville sees typical wind gusts up to about 118 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors on all four sides — not just fastened to the deck — so wind has nowhere to grab hold. The system also achieved a UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, the highest impact classification available, proving its ability to handle severe weather. Combined with the solid deck and underlayment that prevent noise, this construction is exceptionally rigid and durable in coastal New England storms.

Can a metal roof reduce hail damage or insurance costs?

Metal roofing performs exceptionally well in hail. Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some homeowners have seen insurance premiums drop after installing a Class 4-rated metal roof, though discounts vary by insurer and location. Request a quote from your carrier mentioning the Class 4 rating; many view metal roofing as a substantial loss-control improvement. In regions where hail is common, the combination of impact resistance and warranty coverage can meaningfully reduce your out-of-pocket risk compared to asphalt, which is easily damaged by large stones.

Does metal roofing really save energy costs in Rhode Island?

energy-efficient colors on Interlock roofing have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), which means they bounce heat away rather than absorbing it the way dark asphalt does. Over Graniteville's 3050 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity reduces cooling costs, especially on south and west-facing exposures. Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms the ratings. The light weight also means better attic ventilation — no heavy sagging that restricts airflow. In summer, reflective metal keeps your home cooler; in winter, the R-value of underlayment and deck provides insulation. You're not paying to cool or heat absorbed solar gain.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually require?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. Asphalt shingles need algae treatment, granule replacement monitoring, and frequent repairs as they curl and crack. Wood shake splits and rots, especially in Graniteville's 1198 mm of annual rainfall and 83 freeze-thaw cycles. Tile cracks when walked on and requires repointing. Metal simply sheds debris: leaves wash off, moss doesn't establish on smooth aluminum, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. You'll inspect gutters and flashing like any roof, but you won't replace shingles, treat rot, or seal cracks. That translates to decades of predictable, minimal upkeep.

What does the Interlock warranty actually cover and for how long?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It's also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from the date of completion, which significantly strengthens resale value. The coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 tested). Because Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, real-world longevity data backs the warranty. You're buying the last roof you'll likely install.

Who installs Interlock roofing in Graniteville?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and specializes in Interlock installation throughout Newport County and beyond. A local installer with 25+ years in the market knows Graniteville's climate intimately — the 76 cm snowfall, 1198 mm rain, and 118 km/h wind gusts — and can design systems and flashing to handle it. They understand local permitting, work with regional contractors, and are available for service calls if questions arise. Currently, the region is offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Call the local team for an estimate; they'll walk you through profile options, colors, and installation over your existing roof if that applies.
