Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Mapleville, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
They could improve on the cleanliness during the job.
Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation
The price was way higher with Interlock Roofing. The salesman and the product were great, but we just couldn't do the price.
Just setting expectations around the siding cutting. I did not know until after it was done.
Jonathan was an amazing salesman. He was patient. What I wanted wasn't offered at the time, but he said he could probably find it, so he went above and beyond at his salesman task. If I could have chosen a company, I would have chosen Interlock.
I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!
They did a great job. I would give them the top starts across the board.
Informed it would be 6-8 weeks delivery. A total of 6 month wait time. This was the 1st winter we had no snow in January. The arrival of supplies was day of blizzard in Feb. They worked very diligently and hard because they had to shovel roof off during 2 snow storms. I felt very sorry for this awful inconvenience to them working in such awful weather. They were great workers and very prof. A wait time of 6 months was our only complaint.
The price was too high ($12,000 too high), the sales pressure was too great (it felt like a used car lot), and the square footage was inaccurate, which might be the reason the price was too high.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mapleville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mapleville, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mapleville.
Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum's strength actually improves in freeze-thaw conditions. Mapleville gets about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, which tears apart asphalt and wood shingles. Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so it won't crack, split, or curl as temperatures swing. The Alunar coating (warranted 30 years) protects both sides of the panel, so salt spray and moisture exposure during those 76 cm of annual snow won't degrade the finish. You're looking at a roof that gets tougher with every winter cycle, not weaker.
How does metal roofing perform under heavy snow loads?
Metal roofing sheds snow efficiently and handles accumulation without fail. With about 76 cm of snow yearly, a sloped metal roof's smooth surface lets it slide rather than pile up like asphalt. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24, ASTM B209) meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 structural code for your area and can support the weight of significant snow without deflection. Metal also stays cold, so you get fewer ice dams—the real culprit in winter leaks. Add snow guards if you want controlled shedding, but the metal itself won't sag or fail under the load.
Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel in a coastal Rhode Island climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the material that oxidizes and degrades. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually seals and protects itself, even when scratched. In Mapleville's salty, wet climate (1198 mm of annual rain), this matters enormously. Steel roofs rust within years near salt air; aluminum keeps performing. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds 30 years of warranty against corrosion and fading, giving you two layers of protection where steel has none. Your roof won't be a rust bucket in 10 years.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement needed—metal weighs almost nothing. The Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, which is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Compare that to the real weight you're already carrying if you have asphalt shingles, and you realize metal is a relief on your framing. This means it installs directly over most existing roofs without tearing anything off, saving time and disposal costs. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels (ESR-1790 code-evaluated) distribute their minimal load evenly, so your house's bones stay happy for decades.
Can a metal roof stay put in Rhode Island windstorms?
Absolutely—wind gusts in Mapleville reach about 118 km/h, and Interlock Metal Roofing warranties its four-way interlocking panels to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. That's above the worst you'll see. The interlocking system means each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, so there's no single point of failure and nothing to lift. Combined with proper fastening and the panel's aluminum strength, you get a roof that won't budge during coastal nor'easters or the occasional tropical system. Insurance companies recognize this durability.
How does metal roofing handle hail, and will it help my insurance?
Metal roofing carries the highest hail rating available: UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum alloy doesn't dent easily because of its yield strength and the panel's engineering. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare. Mapleville's climate includes occasional severe weather, so that protection is real value. Document the UL 2218 rating with your carrier—many will reduce premiums or offer higher coverage limits, paying back a chunk of your investment before year five.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve up to 0.55 solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorb it like dark asphalt. Mapleville gets about 3050 sunshine hours annually, so that reflection compounds across the year. You won't eliminate air conditioning costs, but reflective metal roofs typically cut cooling demand 10–20% compared to conventional shingles. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance—it's measured in the lab and real-world tested, not guessed.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no depreciation over time. One transferable benefit: the next owner gets 50 years of coverage from completion, adding resale appeal. With 30-year-warranted coating durability (ASTM D4214 and D2244 tested) and aluminum that doesn't degrade, expect 50+ years of service in Mapleville's climate. That's typically three times longer than asphalt. You're buying your last roof, not a 20-year patch.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal needs almost none. Unlike asphalt (which breaks down in Mapleville's 3050 annual sunshine hours), metal doesn't curl, crack, or shed granules. Unlike wood shakes (which rot in 83 freeze-thaw days and 1198 mm of rain yearly), aluminum doesn't absorb water or invite rot. You'll rinse debris twice yearly if you want, but that's optional. The CALGreen code recognizes metal roofing for reduced maintenance burden. No moss treatment, no algae spraying, no re-nailing, no sealant reapplication. Check gutters and flashings like any roof, but the metal itself stays trouble-free.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in the Mapleville area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999 and knows Newport County's climate and code requirements inside out. They're the authorized local installer for all five Interlock profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Right now they're running a regional promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or get 10% off installation. They handle everything from site assessment and customization to finishing, and they're familiar with Mapleville homes and local permit workflows.
