Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Harrisville, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Harrisville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Harrisville, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Harrisville.
Will a metal roof hold up through Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Harrisville experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to crack and wood to split, but aluminum has no water absorption, so ice expansion can't damage it. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy was designed for this: the oxide layer that forms on aluminum is self-healing when scratched by ice or thermal stress. Over 25+ years of freeze-thaw cycles, that's where asphalt fails and aluminum keeps performing.
How does Interlock handle Harrisville's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice reliably in areas that average about 76 centimeters of snow yearly. The profile options—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, and Mediterranean Tile—all create surface textures that break up ice adhesion without trapping it like flat asphalt does. Optional snow guards can be installed where local code or your property layout requires them. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means zero structural reinforcement is needed, even in heavy snow years.
With Harrisville getting 1200 mm of rain yearly, how does metal roofing stay watertight?
The four-way interlocking system locks panels together on all sides, so water can't find a path between them—it sheds downward by design. Harrisville's typical annual rainfall of about 1200 millimeters is distributed over the year, not concentrated in monsoons, so standard pitch roofs with interlocking metal shed it as quickly as asphalt would. Installation over a solid deck with ICC-ES ESR-1790-compliant underlayment seals the system. Properly installed Interlock roofs have a nearly 30-year track record without water intrusion claims.
Are metal roofs safe in Newport County's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Harrisville gusts reach about 118 kilometers per hour, and Interlock is warranted to 120 mph when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panels resist uplift wind loads far better than nailed shingles because the locking system distributes wind force across a continuous panel network rather than concentrating it on fastener points. Insurance companies often recognize this durability; ask your agent about wind-resistance discounts when you install.
Why does aluminum not rust like steel roofs?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—iron is what oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum forms a transparent oxide layer that is self-healing; if a branch scratches your roof, the oxide reforms on its own within days. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking) adds extra protection in salt-air environments. For Harrisville homeowners, this means no seasonal rust spots, no corrosion stains on siding, and no hidden decay like you'd find under a steel roof after 15 years.
Does hail damage metal roofing, and can it lower insurance premiums?
Interlock meets UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That rating often qualifies you for homeowner's insurance discounts because insurers recognize the material won't fail under severe hail. Your agent can confirm whether your policy rewards Class 4 impact resistance; many insurers do. In Harrisville's climate, where occasional severe weather is possible, that combination of durability and potential premium savings pays real money over time.
Can my house support a metal tile roof without reinforcement?
Yes, without any reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs and requires zero structural upgrades. A traditional concrete tile roof weighs 15–20 lb/sq ft; Interlock Tile weighs less than one-tenth of that. Harrisville's building department approves retrofit installations because the load is so minimal. You're replacing an asphalt roof with something that looks like high-end tile and installs in the same footprint.
Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in Rhode Island?
Lower your cooling costs with Interlock's energy-efficiency colors. Harrisville averages about 3050 hours of sunshine annually, and Interlock's reflective coatings have initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away instead of absorbing it like dark asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings. Over a 50-year roof life, reflective metal saves more on air conditioning than cheaper asphalt loses to heat absorption. Your utility bill reflects the difference month after month.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof require?
Virtually none beyond standard gutter cleaning. Metal doesn't rot, split, curl, or crack like wood or asphalt, so there's no seasonal inspection for damage, no repairs before winter, no moss treatment. Harrisville's 1200 mm annual rainfall and 76 centimeters of snow naturally clean the roof. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214, so you won't see the color degradation that forces asphalt reroof decisions. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance vs. traditional materials. Essentially, install it and forget it.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Every time an asphalt roof reaches end-of-life, tons of material go to the dump. With Interlock, you install once and the aluminum has a 50-year transferable warranty (lifetime limited for the original owner), so the roof often outlasts the homeowner's tenure. When it eventually does reach end-of-life, the entire panel system goes to an aluminum recycler, not a landfill. Harrisville's commitment to reducing waste aligns with choosing a roof that doesn't generate demolition debris.
