| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
They could improve on the cleanliness during the job.
Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation
The price was way higher with Interlock Roofing. The salesman and the product were great, but we just couldn't do the price.
Jonathan was an amazing salesman. He was patient. What I wanted wasn't offered at the time, but he said he could probably find it, so he went above and beyond at his salesman task. If I could have chosen a company, I would have chosen Interlock.
I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!
They did a great job. I would give them the top starts across the board.
Informed it would be 6-8 weeks delivery. A total of 6 month wait time. This was the 1st winter we had no snow in January. The arrival of supplies was day of blizzard in Feb. They worked very diligently and hard because they had to shovel roof off during 2 snow storms. I felt very sorry for this awful inconvenience to them working in such awful weather. They were great workers and very prof. A wait time of 6 months was our only complaint.
Just setting expectations around the siding cutting. I did not know until after it was done.
The price was too high ($12,000 too high), the sales pressure was too great (it felt like a used car lot), and the square footage was inaccurate, which might be the reason the price was too high.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oakland
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oakland, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oakland.
Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum roofs excel in freeze-thaw environments because the metal itself cannot crack, split, or absorb moisture—the two primary failure modes in asphalt and wood. Oakland experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year, where standing water and ice stress traditional materials. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to move slightly with thermal expansion without degrading, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) remains flexible across temperature swings. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty covers cracking and splitting, so freeze-thaw cycles pose no threat to your roof's integrity or coverage.
How does a metal roof perform under Oakland's heavy snow loads?
Oakland receives about 76 cm of snow annually, and metal roofing handles that load safely because it weighs so little—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb per square foot, meaning no structural reinforcement is needed. Snow sheds faster on smooth metal than asphalt, reducing ice-dam formation; the tight four-way interlocking seams prevent meltwater from working underneath. If you live in a steep-roof area and want to prevent sliding snow, optional snow guards can be installed. The lightweight design is the real advantage here: your home bears a fraction of the load that slate or clay tile would impose, and snow simply slides off rather than sitting and refreezing.
Does a metal roof leak in heavy rain? What about Oakland's rainfall?
Oakland averages about 1,198 mm of rain per year, and metal roofs actually outperform asphalt in heavy wet weather because the interlocking panels create a continuous metallic surface—water cannot penetrate the seams the way it can migrate under asphalt shingles. The four-way interlock system means each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides, and water is mechanically forced downslope toward the gutters. Installed over solid decking with proper underlayment (standard practice), the roof is as leak-proof as asphalt but without asphalt's age-related brittleness. The Guardian warranty covers leaks and water damage for the original owner's lifetime, so you're protected even in Newport County's wettest years.
Can a metal roof withstand Oakland's winter gusts?
Oakland experiences typical gusts around 118 km/h—roughly equivalent to 73 mph—and Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panels distribute wind load across the entire roof surface rather than concentrating stress at fastener points, and the tight mechanical lock prevents panels from peeling or lifting. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this wind performance under IBC/IRC code. Even during nor'easters, your roof stays secure—and many homeowners discover their metal roof can actually reduce wind-insurance premiums because of its proven track record in high-wind regions.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is oxidized iron, which is chemically impossible in aluminum. Instead, aluminum naturally forms an extremely thin, self-healing oxide layer on its surface that protects the metal beneath. Even if that layer is scratched or abraded, it repairs itself automatically when exposed to air. This matters in coastal and salt-air environments, but it also matters in inland Newport County where freeze-thaw moisture cycles and rain acidity can attack steel. Steel roofs require paint maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum roofs never will. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a second line of defense, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so your roof looks new much longer and corrosion is simply not a long-term concern.
Does a metal roof perform well in hail, and can it lower insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability is backed by real-world testing and over 25 years of field performance from Delta, BC to coastal and mountain regions. Class 4 impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because insurers recognize metal's superior hail performance compared to asphalt, which dents, cracks, and fails under similar impacts. While Oakland's climate includes roughly 1,198 mm annual rainfall and 83 freeze-thaw days rather than frequent hail, the robust impact rating is a benefit if severe storms do strike Newport County. Contact your insurance agent about potential premium reductions—many carriers offer them specifically for metal roofs.
Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, cedar shakes, or tile?
Yes—Interlock offers five distinct profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam, each with authentic texture and dimension. The Slate replicates the layered elegance of traditional slate; the Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles capture the warmth of aged wood; the Tile profile mimics clay or concrete barrel tile. All five are installed as lightweight aluminum panels (Tile weighs about 96% less than real tile), so you get the architectural beauty you want without costly structural reinforcement or the lifespan limitations of actual slate, wood, or clay. Choose the style that matches your home's character, then enjoy it with zero maintenance, a 30-year coating warranty, and a lifetime limited material warranty that covers the original owner.
Do I need to reinforce my house for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required—and that's one of aluminum's greatest advantages. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb per square foot, making it roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile; the Slate and other profiles are even lighter. This means most Oakland homes can support a metal roof over the existing structure without any framing upgrades, and many homes can even have metal installed directly over an existing asphalt shingle roof (reducing tear-off costs and landfill waste). The lightweight design also reduces stress on foundation, walls, and trusses over the 50+ year lifespan of your roof. Installation is faster because no structural work is needed—your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., can often complete the job in days rather than weeks.
Is a metal roof really worth the upfront cost?
A metal roof is the last roof you'll buy—the lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner, far outlasting asphalt shingles (15-20 years) or wood shakes (20-30 years). Over a 50-year horizon, you avoid multiple tear-offs, disposal fees, and re-roofing labor, making metal the lower total cost of ownership. You also save on maintenance: asphalt requires periodic inspections and repairs; metal requires virtually none. Energy-efficient colors (energy-efficient, with thermal emissivity up to 0.84) reduce cooling costs. Right now, Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the initial investment more manageable. When you factor in a 50-year no-tear-off lifecycle plus energy savings, the value case is compelling.
What does the warranty actually cover, and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning you never pay a deductible or face stepped coverage reductions. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating specifically carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM standards D4214 and D2244). If you sell the home, the warranty transfers to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a significant resale feature in Oakland's real-estate market. This combination of non-prorated lifetime coverage and a transferable 50-year term reflects Interlock's confidence in aluminum's durability through Newport County's freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rainfall, and salt-air conditions. Few roofing products offer this level of protection.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Oakland’s climate?
Yes. Oakland averages about 76 cm of snow, 1198 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 118 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
