Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Bradford, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Bradford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Bradford, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Bradford.
How does a metal roof handle Bradford's heavy snow load and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more reliably than asphalt, preventing the ice dams that form when meltwater refreezes. Bradford averages about 154 cm of snow annually and around 94 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels won't split or absorb water, and the metal's thermal conductivity helps snow slide off naturally. Snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent sudden slides onto walkways.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust, even with Bradford's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that instantly reforms if scratched, protecting the bare metal underneath. Bradford receives about 858 mm of rain per year, yet aluminum roofs have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys used in Interlock panels are specifically designed for this durability, paired with a 30-year Alunar PVDF coating warranty against corrosion and fading.
Can I install a metal roof that looks like tile without reinforcing my roof framing?
Yes—Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb per square foot, roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile. This means no structural reinforcement is required, and you can often install it directly over your existing roof, saving thousands on prep work. By contrast, genuine tile can weigh 1,200+ pounds per 100 square feet. Bradford's builders can install the Tile profile on homes built for standard asphalt loads, making it an economical way to achieve the traditional aesthetic without engineering upgrades or tear-offs.
Does aluminum roofing really stand up to Vermont's repeated freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum is inherently stable under freeze-thaw stress because it expands and contracts uniformly—it doesn't absorb water, crack, or cup the way asphalt, wood, or clay does. Bradford experiences about 94 freeze-thaw days per year with typical winter temperatures cycling above and below freezing. Interlock's aluminum panels have been specified for regions with far harsher cycles since 1998. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms performance under IBC/IRC standards. Meanwhile, asphalt shingles typically fail within 15–20 years in climates like Bradford's; the Guardian warranty covers material defects for the original owner's lifetime plus 50 years for the next owner.
Will my metal roof blow off in Bradford's winter gusts?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking panel design locks each sheet to its neighbors on all four edges, creating a unified system that resists wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Bradford's typical wind gusts reach about 111 km/h, well within this warranty limit. The interlocking geometry also prevents water infiltration even in horizontal rain, because wind cannot lift or separate a properly installed metal roof panel. This structural integration is why metal roofing is frequently specified for high-wind zones and why the Guardian warranty explicitly covers wind-related damage when installed to Interlock's specifications.
Does metal roofing hold up to hail, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available. The Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, so even severe hail events won't compromise your roof. Many homeowners and insurance agents report lower premiums for non-combustible, impact-resistant metal roofing compared to asphalt. Bradford's climate doesn't feature routine hail, but the Class 4 rating provides complete peace of mind. Because aluminum is non-combustible (Class A fire rating available), insurers view metal roofs as lower-risk than wood or asphalt, often translating to measurable savings over the roof's life.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal requires far less maintenance. Asphalt shingles need frequent inspections and spot repairs; wood shakes need regular treatment, cleaning, and replacement of individual pieces. Interlock aluminum roofs need only occasional debris removal and perhaps a rinse every few years—the hard, slick surface prevents moss and algae growth common in Bradford's 858 mm annual rainfall. The material cannot rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance over time. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance. Your main task is keeping gutters clear; the roof itself simply lasts.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also transferable; the next owner receives the same coverage for 50 years from completion. In practice, Interlock aluminum roofs installed since 1998 show no degradation; many are now 25+ years old with zero failures. The Alunar coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244 measured). Given that asphalt typically requires replacement every 15–20 years and wood every 20–40 years, an aluminum roof is genuinely your last roof.
Will an Interlock metal roof lower my cooling costs in summer?
Metal roofs in energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meeting Cool Roof Rating Council standards. In summer, when Bradford's mean temperature is 8.5°C and sunshine hours average about 2,920 per year, every reduction in roof heat gain reduces attic temperatures and air-conditioning load. Darker colors won't save as much energy, but even standard finishes outperform asphalt, which absorbs heat and drives temperatures into the 60–70°C range. Lighter-colored Interlock roofs can lower cooling costs 10–15% compared to dark asphalt in similar homes.
