Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for East Orange, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in East Orange
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in East Orange, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in East Orange.
How does a metal roof handle East Orange's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties prevent the ice dams that trap asphalt shingles. East Orange receives about 164 cm of snow annually across roughly 97 freeze-thaw days, which cycles moisture in and out of conventional roofing materials. Aluminum's oxide layer doesn't absorb water, so it won't degrade from repeated freezing. The four-way interlocking panels bond tightly during installation and stay intact through expansion and contraction, keeping your attic dry where wood or asphalt roofs develop leaks.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in Vermont's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires both iron and oxygen. Instead, aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that seals the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched, it self-heals automatically. East Orange averages 888 mm of annual rainfall, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214 and D2244) is applied to both panel sides for extra protection. Steel roofs, by contrast, develop rust that spreads beneath the coating, eventually perforating the material.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Vermont damage my metal roof over time?
No—freeze-thaw damage occurs in materials that absorb and hold water, such as wood shingles and asphalt. With 97 freeze-thaw days per year in East Orange, expansion and contraction is constant, which causes traditional roofing to split and crack. Aluminum panels don't absorb moisture, so freezing cycles can't degrade the material itself. The lightweight construction also means no stress from ice and snow load accumulation, unlike slate or concrete tile roofs that depend on perfect fastening to avoid failure.
Can a metal roof withstand East Orange's wind gusts and storms?
Yes—Interlock metal roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. East Orange experiences typical daily-maximum winds around 16 km/h with gusts reaching about 105 km/h, well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof surface rather than relying on individual fasteners. This design prevents lifting and flutter, the two failure modes that plague single-lock and standing-seam competitors.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof installation?
Almost never. The Interlock Slate profile weighs about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heavier Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs—whether asphalt, wood, or original structure—can support this load without reinforcement, which saves thousands in framing upgrades. The lightweight design also means you can often install directly over existing shingles, eliminating tearoff labor and landfill waste while reducing project time.
What hail damage protection does an aluminum metal roof offer?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies metal roofs for insurance discounts; contact your carrier for specifics on your policy. Most homeowners find that the Class 4 rating and non-combustible aluminum classification (ICC-ES ESR-1790) appeal to insurers, especially in regions with spring hail risk, though East Orange's primary weather concern is snow load rather than severe hail.
Will an energy-efficiency metal roof lower my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt shingles do, reducing attic temperature and AC workload. Interlock's Aged Copper Penny color achieves a solar reflectance of up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, measured by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In East Orange's 2900 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance prevents heat buildup during long summer days. While cooling isn't the dominant expense in a cold climate with 164 cm of snow, the reflective benefit extends roof life by lowering thermal stress.
What is the lifetime warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer?
The Guardian Warranty offers a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty to the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable: the next owner receives coverage for 50 years from completion. This transferability appeals to future buyers and protects your investment across decades. Few roofing materials offer such comprehensive, non-prorated protection combined with ownership transfer—most competitors use prorated schedules that shift cost to the homeowner over time.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance—no algae treatment, no nail replacement, no wood sealing. Asphalt shingles need moss/algae cleaning every few years, especially in wet climates, and nails back out as the material shrinks in freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shakes require regular sealing against East Orange's 888 mm of annual rain. A metal roof shedding snow and rain without absorbing either simply doesn't degrade the same way. The CALGreen verification recognizes this reduced-maintenance durability, which lowers lifetime ownership costs.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in East Orange, and how long have they served the area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the East Orange region since 1999, with expertise in cold-climate installation, snow load design, and freeze-thaw durability. Their 25+ years of local experience means they understand Orange County building codes, typical seasonal windows for installation, and how to prepare homes for winter weather. Current financing offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making this an ideal time to schedule a consultation before the heavy snow season.
