Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Corinth, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Corinth
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Corinth, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Corinth.
How does a metal roof handle Corinth's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists bonding—especially important when you're getting about 164 cm of snow yearly. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a unified surface that won't separate under freeze-thaw stress; with roughly 97 freeze-thaw cycles per year here, that matters. Snow guards can be added if you want to control where snow exits. The lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural worry even with deep accumulation, unlike slate or concrete tile roofs.
Does freezing and thawing damage aluminum metal roofing over time?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the material itself won't split, crack, or curl—those failures are covered under The Guardian lifetime limited warranty. With about 97 freeze-thaw days per year in Corinth, this durability is a real asset. The 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys expand and contract uniformly, and the interlocking seams accommodate movement without failing. Wood shingles and asphalt both degrade under repeated freeze-thaw; aluminum simply cycles through it.
Can aluminum roofing rust, and is it suitable for Corinth's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—only the 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloy, which is specified for roofing-grade durability. Instead of rusting, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, getting tougher over time. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of each panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), providing extra defense against Corinth's roughly 888 mm of annual rainfall. Steel roofing rusts; aluminum roofing doesn't.
Will a metal roof blow off in Vermont wind gusts?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and your region experiences gusts typically around 105 km/h (65 mph). The panels lock together on all four edges, so uplift forces are distributed across the entire roof assembly rather than stressing individual fasteners. This interlocking design is evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for code compliance in high-wind zones. Asphalt shingles rely on adhesive; metal panels rely on mechanical interlock—a fundamentally stronger system.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof, or can it go over my existing shingles?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. This lightweight design means installation can happen directly over your existing asphalt shingles or other roof covering in most cases, saving labor and landfill disposal costs. Your existing frame can support it without modification. Traditional tile roofing often requires costly structural upgrades; aluminum roofing does not.
Can a metal roof help lower cooling costs in summer?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's reflective coatings have initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. Cool Roof Rating Council-rated finishes reduce the temperature at your attic level, lowering cooling demand. With about 2,900 sunshine hours per year in Corinth, this reflection effect compounds over months. The energy savings depend on your climate control habits and color choice, but a light-colored metal roof will outperform dark asphalt in any sunny season.
Is a metal roof really hail-proof, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock panels carry the highest hail impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability doesn't guarantee insurance discounts (that's up to your carrier), but many insurers recognize Class 4 impact ratings and non-combustible aluminum construction as lower-risk. Talk to your agent; some offer reductions for metal roofs. In Vermont, severe hail is less frequent than in the Great Plains, but the confidence of Class 4 protection is real, and it's factored into your 50-year warranty term if transferred to a future owner.
What's covered under the warranty, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original homeowner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—basically all the failures that plague traditional roofing. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from roof completion. With no iron in the material, no wood to rot, and a 30-year coating warranty on the Alunar finish, the roof can easily outlast a mortgage. Most homeowners will install one metal roof and never reroof again, making it your last roof purchase.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Almost none. Unlike asphalt, metal won't lose granules, blister, or curl. Unlike wood shake or shingle, it won't split, rot, or require treatment. The CALGreen-verified roof requires only occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal—the same basic housekeeping any roof needs. Heavy snow and ice (you see about 164 cm annually) slide off naturally rather than sitting on the surface. No resealing, no algae treatment, no replacement shingles needed. With roughly 97 freeze-thaw cycles per year, the stability of aluminum and its interlocking seams mean no cracking or separation over time.
