Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Fairlee, Vermont
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fairlee
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fairlee, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fairlee.
How does metal roofing handle Fairlee's 154 cm of annual snow?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently due to their smooth surface and slope — snow slides rather than accumulates. The panels are warranted to 120 mph wind resistance, which exceeds Fairlee's typical gusts of 111 km/h, so snow load and wind-driven slush won't compromise the lock. Aluminum's light weight (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow sits temporarily. You can add snow guards if desired for safety without affecting panel performance.
Does aluminum roofing crack in freeze-thaw cycles like asphalt does?
No. Fairlee experiences about 94 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt and wood to contract, expand, and eventually crack or curl. Aluminum alloy (ASTM B209, 3105-H24) has superior dimensional stability — it flexes elastically without permanent deformation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides protects against thermal stress and weathering from repeated freezing. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking and curling for the original owner's lifetime, a guarantee asphalt cannot match in your climate.
Will a metal roof rust in Vermont's wet climate with 858 mm of annual rainfall?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that self-heals when scratched — a natural protection that strengthens over time. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides. This dual-side coating is rated to resist chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214/D2244), so moisture and Fairlee's seasonal wet cycles accelerate neither corrosion nor finish breakdown.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Most roofs need no reinforcement. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58, and the Mediterranean Tile profile at 0.59 — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This light weight allows installation directly over most existing roofs, saving time and tear-off costs. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms load compliance with current building code (IBC/IRC). A local inspection by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. will confirm your home's readiness; in the vast majority of Fairlee homes, structural upgrades are unnecessary.
How much upkeep does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Minimal. Asphalt roofs require regular inspection, moss treatment, and frequent repairs; wood shake absorbs moisture and rots in Fairlee's ~858 mm annual rainfall. Interlock aluminum panels are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance — they don't absorb water, don't rot, split, or curl. A gentle rinse every few years keeps the finish looking new; no sealant reapplication, no algae treatment, no structural repairs. The Alunar coating resists both algae growth and UV fade, so Fairlee's 2920 annual sunshine hours pose no threat to panel integrity.
Does a metal roof help with cooling costs in summer?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and traps. Over Fairlee's 2920 sunshine hours per year, reflective metal roofing reduces attic temperatures and cooling load, lowering summer utility bills. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms measurable performance. While Fairlee's mean temperature is a cool 8.5°C, reflected heat still reduces air-conditioning runtime during shoulder and summer months, offsetting energy costs over the roof's lifetime.
Does Fairlee's hail risk mean a metal roof is overkill?
Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — means the panels withstand hailstones up to 1.5 inches without perforation or denting that compromises weathertightness. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hail impact. Many insurance companies recognize this rating and offer premium discounts for homes with Class 4 metal roofing. Ask your agent about hail-impact discounts; over a 50-year roof life, savings often offset or exceed the material cost difference versus asphalt.
How do interlocking panels protect against Vermont's strong gusts?
Fairlee's typical peak gusts reach 111 km/h, occasionally approaching 120 mph in severe storms. Interlock's four-way mechanical interlock — each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges — distributes wind load across the entire roof system instead of relying on fasteners alone. The panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. This redundant locking means a single fastener failure won't compromise the roof; gusts that would lift asphalt shingles or tear standing seam panels can't separate Interlock's grid.
Is a metal roof cheaper than asphalt when you add up the total cost over time?
Over a roof's lifetime, aluminum is typically cheaper. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years and requires periodic repair; you'll install two or three asphalt roofs before one metal roof wears out. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and hail impact — no exclusions. The roof is transferable for 50 years, protecting your resale. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Factor in zero maintenance, no tear-off disposal costs, and a single permanent roof, and aluminum wins over 40+ years.
What makes Interlock's warranty different from other metal roof guarantees?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner — meaning no percentage reductions, no exclusions for normal wear, and no gradual coverage phase-out. It covers rusting (impossible with aluminum), rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, loss of impact resistance, and hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for a 50-year term from completion. This one-time transfer adds resale appeal in Fairlee's competitive market. Asphalt and even some metal roofs offer limited, prorated warranties that decline year by year — the Guardian Warranty does not.
