| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Long wait on materials, installation was good, but not what I would call great (some dents, some uneven areas). The overall project had the potential to be fantastic (due to the construction of the house) and it fell short of that, but still looks great. Also dissappointed that they could not provide me with a certification letter for the wind, hail, and fire resistance. So installation had no effect on my homeowners insurance. At my previous home in Texas, that was standard for all roofing contractors. See previous comments
This is the second review I have ever given. Absolutely couldn’t be happier about our new roof/skylights and the folks I dealt with during the whole process. Begins with the no pressure sales, support staff and ends with the people who did the work. Work was done in November and waited to give this review only because I wanted to see how it handled a Vermont winter and see if any issues came up. No issues, none! Not sure why, but I used a lot less oil this winter (colder and snowier winter than normal). Maybe my 30 years old skylights or something to do with the roof system? If you are on the fence about using Interlock Roofing or the Shake Shingle type of roof, my advice to you would be to get off the fence and pull the trigger!
Communications with the office could be improved. Dropping and losing nails and scraps in the snow is understandable but not picking up excess nails dropped while filling nail pouches is not okay. Also as a non smoker cigarette butts on the ground are definitely not okay.
We just put an Interlock metal roof on our house. We were very happy with Chris's presentation and and decided to move forward with them. They started when they said they would and the crew worked full days until it was complete. The install manager Paul stopped by multiple times and the crew chief, Nazar was very diligent. We look forward to many years ahead of trouble free living through Vermonts wind, rain, and snow. Thank you Chris, and the office staff.
Very pleased with the quality and appearance of the roofing. None No
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We were looking to replace our shingle roof with a standing seam metal roof for our home in Vermont. We called over ten roofing contractors and received quotes from four of them. I had the best feeling about Interlock Roofing from the beginning, mostly due to my interactions with Mark. Additionally, they were the most competitive on price. Once we committed and signed a contract, we dealt with Jennifer and Paul to coordinate and complete the installation. They were incredibly responsive, and timely, and the entire project was completed in four days. Such a pleasure to work with. The entire process was seamless, and the roof looks phenomenal. Very pleased overall. Service: Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Professional, pleasant & responsive staff (Jonathan & Jennifer). The roof is beautiful to look at & highly functional. There was a delay in installation because of VT weather, but that was unavoidable. Jonathan reached out to us after two years to check on us & the roof, which we thought was very considerate & just good business practice. We are very happy with the roof & would recommend Interlock to any of our friends. Service: Roof installation
I have two concerns/complaints about my new Interlock roof. A few places along the ridge cap appear raised - instead of being completely straight and level horizontally, there are a few places where two shingles meet in a slightly raised, A-shape. Also there are several places on the porch roof and on the roof between the garage and main house where the shingles are depressed - flattened or "crushed concavely". My guess is it's from being knelt on by the installers and I don't like how it looks. I was told the roof would be installed in October. It wasn't started until November and it wasn't finished until a week before Christmas. The installers endured terribly cold and wet weather and I'm concerned it affected the quality of the installation.
Scheduling vs. actual appearance of crew (as above) could have been communicated more clearly. It seems the project was pushed into late December causing my concern as to low temperature (zero \*F) affecting product and installation. So far though, the workmanship and function appears to be at 100%. A few major wind storms since completion had no ill effect, and the intense rain storms have resulted in no penetration into the home. (I could not say that prior to installation!)

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chelsea
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Chelsea, Vermont. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Chelsea.
How does a metal roof handle 164 cm of Vermont snow and repeated freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow efficiently and resists damage from the roughly 97 freeze-thaw days Chelsea experiences annually. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks in freeze cycles, 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains its integrity through repeated expansion and contraction. The four-way interlocking panels remain watertight even when ice dams form, and the coating system—warranted 30 years under ASTM D4214 testing—won't degrade from the approximately 888 mm of annual precipitation and salt-laden runoff common in New England.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Vermont's humid, wet climate?
No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of every panel, adds a 30-year-warranted barrier against corrosion and chalking (ASTM D2244 tested). This dual-layer defense makes aluminum ideal for Chelsea's 888 mm annual rainfall and winter conditions; the coating's symmetrical application means even the underside resists moisture intrusion and ice-dam salt spray.
Will my metal roof hold up to Vermont's wind gusts and storms?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when properly installed, well above Chelsea's documented gust peaks near 105 km/h (65 mph). The four-way interlocking system distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone, and the lightweight design—roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—reduces the absolute force exerted during gusts. Our ESR-1790 evaluation (ICC-ES, 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind standards for your region.
Do I need to reinforce my home's frame before installing a metal tile roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so your existing roof structure can easily support it. Most homes in Chelsea can accommodate installation directly over their current roof, eliminating the cost and disruption of tear-off and disposal. This lightweight advantage also reduces the overall load during wind events (with gusts averaging around 16 km/h but spiking to 105 km/h), making the system exceptionally stable without added expense.
How does aluminum metal roofing survive repeated freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood—its coefficient of linear expansion is about half that of steel. Chelsea's 97 annual freeze-thaw days won't crack, curl, or split an aluminum roof because the material yields slightly without structural fatigue. The 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) and Alunar coating system maintain flexibility through repeated temperature swings across the roughly 2900 annual sunshine hours and winter freeze periods. Unlike organic coatings, the 30-year-warranted PVDF finish doesn't become brittle, so it continues sealing panel edges against snowmelt and spring runoff.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock meets UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest hail classification available—and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This performance often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium reductions; speak with your agent about discounts for Class 4 roofing. The non-combustible aluminum and proven impact resistance (tested per UL 2218) make your home a lower-risk proposition, regardless of Chelsea's severe-weather history.
Is a metal roof fire-resistant, and does it matter for homeowner's insurance?
Interlock aluminum panels are non-combustible and available in Class A fire rating—the highest classification. The material itself cannot ignite, and in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, the system demonstrates Class A performance when installed per specification. Many insurers offer lower premiums for non-combustible roofing, since it eliminates the primary fuel source for roof-level fire spread. For Chelsea homeowners, this translates to both safety and potential long-term savings on homeowner's insurance costs.
Can a metal roof actually reduce my air-conditioning costs?
energy-efficient colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they bounce heat away rather than absorb it the way asphalt does. During Chelsea's roughly 2900 annual sunshine hours, this reflectivity reduces cooling demand and lowers peak roof temperatures. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings, particularly valuable as your home ages and your roof's role in thermal management becomes more critical.
What maintenance will my metal roof actually need over 20 years?
Aluminum requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or clay tile. Unlike asphalt, which deteriorates year-round from UV exposure and the roughly 888 mm of annual rainfall, aluminum's 30-year-warranted Alunar coating resists chalking and fading without periodic sealing. You'll inspect gutters and fasteners annually (standard for any roof) but won't face shingle replacement, wood rot prevention, or tile recaulking. Interlock's CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance reflects real-world durability across 26 years of operation since 1998, including installations in far harsher environments than Chelsea's 164 cm of annual snow.
What does Interlock's lifetime warranty really cover, and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated, lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no degradation over time. It's also one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. This combination means your roof is protected indefinitely during your ownership and retains substantial value for future buyers, making it effectively the last roof you'll install.
