Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Forks

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Forks, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Forks.

How does a metal roof handle Forks' heavy snow and ice buildup?

Aluminum's smooth surface and lightweight construction work together to prevent dangerous ice dams that plague asphalt roofs in your climate. Forks receives about 51 cm of snow annually, and when combined with your typical 11 freeze-thaw days per year, the cycling stress that cracks and curls asphalt shingles simply doesn't affect aluminum. Snow slides cleanly off the interlocking panels rather than sitting and melting unevenly. You can add snow guards to any profile if you prefer controlled runoff, but the material itself sheds winter's weight without absorbing moisture or losing integrity.

With 2,300 mm of rain annually in Forks, will the roof leak?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed water, not trap it—your annual rainfall of about 2,307 mm flows off the same way it does from the steepest mountain peaks. Each panel locks on all four sides, creating a continuous moisture barrier. When installed over solid decking with underlayment by a certified installer, water has nowhere to pool or penetrate. The overlap and pitch work as a team; even during Forks' heaviest downpours, the system drains by design rather than relying on sealants that degrade over time.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and does that matter in coastal Washington?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is iron oxide. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. In salt-air environments like yours, this is a genuine advantage. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum is paired with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. That dual-layer protection—material immunity plus premium coating—means your roof resists the salt spray and salt-laden wind gusts up to 140 km/h that would accelerate corrosion in steel.

Can a metal roof survive Forks hail, and could it lower insurance costs?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing carries the highest impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While hail isn't as frequent in Forks as in drier regions, the four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute impact force across the system rather than absorbing it into a single weak spot like asphalt. The combination of non-combustible Class A fire rating and Class 4 hail protection often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts. Contact your insurer to verify eligibility, but the durability profile typically works in your favor.

Do metal roofs hold up in Forks' winter wind storms?

The four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above the gusts that reach about 140 km/h in your area. Each panel locks securely to its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified weather barrier rather than individual shingles that can lift or curl. Winter gusts in Forks typically top out around 21 km/h average with occasional extremes, so the warranty provides a safety margin you'll likely never approach. Once properly installed to specification, the roof becomes one integrated unit that flexes and holds rather than coming loose piece by piece.

Can my house's frame handle a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?

No structural reinforcement needed. The Interlock Slate weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heaviest profile—Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes can install over their existing roof without modification, saving thousands on framing upgrades. In Forks, where you bear about 51 cm of snow annually, this lightweight advantage is real: aluminum distributes that 10-year-normal snow load across your frame gently, and the material actually sheds moisture rather than holding it like heavier options do. The reduction in structural stress means fewer surprises and faster installation.

How long does a metal roof really last compared to asphalt?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original homeowner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion. With proper installation and maintenance, you're looking at a roof that outlasts the asphalt you'd replace 2–3 times over. Forks' 2,764 annual sunshine hours and freeze-thaw cycles will fade asphalt dramatically, but the Alunar coating resists that same UV exposure and thermal cycling, so your aluminum roof maintains structural integrity across decades while asphalt loses its flexibility.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Frame the question around total cost, not just first-year expense. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years in Forks' wet, freeze-thaw climate; you'll tear off and replace them multiple times over a 50-year period, each cycle adding labor and landfill waste. Aluminum costs more initially but warrants a lifetime limited non-prorated coverage for the original owner, with a 50-year transferable term that passes real value to the next homeowner. When you factor in energy savings from energy-efficient colors with up to 0.55 solar reflectance, eliminated maintenance, and zero replacement cycles across your ownership, the per-year cost becomes lower than the asphalt treadmill.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can I stay in my home?

Installation typically spans a few days to a week depending on roof size and weather, coordinated by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., your local installer since 1997. One major convenience: Interlock aluminum panels install over most existing roofs, eliminating costly tear-off labor and days of exposure. You can stay home during the process. Current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, easing the project into your budget. The certified installation crew handles all details—flashing, underlayment, proper four-way interlocking—so the roof performs as warranted even in Forks' 2,307 mm annual rainfall.

How environmentally responsible is a metal roof compared to asphalt?

Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles that typically end up in landfills with no recovery pathway. Over your ownership, you'll tear off asphalt multiple times in Forks' moisture-heavy climate—each tear-off sends tons of waste to disposal. Aluminum breaks the cycle: install once and maintain for decades, then recycle the material for new roofs or other uses. The material itself requires less energy to install (lightweight, no structural reinforcement), saves energy in use via energy-efficiency reflectance ratings, and closes the loop at the end. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced-maintenance profile means fewer truck trips for repairs, smaller carbon footprint across the roof's lifetime.
