Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Joyce

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Joyce, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Joyce.

How does a metal roof handle Joyce's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice naturally because the smooth, slick surface prevents adhesion — a critical advantage in your region's ~58 cm annual snowfall and 26 freeze-thaw days per year. The lightweight construction (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no risk of structural overload even during deep snow events, unlike slate or concrete tile. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer controlled release, and the tight interlocking seams prevent meltwater from migrating under panels during rapid thaws common in Clallam County.

With 1100 mm of rain per year, won't water seep through the seams?

Yes, Interlock roofs are engineered for heavy rainfall. Your area receives about 1100 mm of rain annually, and the four-way interlocking design creates a sealed system where water cannot travel horizontally into the seams. Each panel overlaps and locks into its neighbor, and when installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification with proper underlayment, rainwater is directed downward and off the roof. The solid-deck installation method transforms your existing roof into a water barrier, leaving no gaps for moisture penetration even in driving rain.

Can a metal roof withstand Joyce's coastal wind gusts?

Clallam County experiences typical gusts around 103 km/h, and Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system — aluminum locks into aluminum on all four edges — creates a unified structural membrane that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on individual fastener strength. Your home gains a roof engineered for conditions well beyond your local wind environment, giving you confidence through winter storms and coastal blow events.

Is aluminum roofing really rust-proof, or will it corrode over time?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — rusting requires iron oxidation, which is physically impossible in pure aluminum. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath; if scratched, this layer self-heals. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel provides a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), and coastal installers have deployed Interlock roofs since 1998 from salt-air environments to Antarctic research stations. In Joyce's maritime climate, this corrosion immunity is a genuine structural advantage asphalt and wood cannot match.

What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — essentially the failure modes that plague asphalt, wood, and traditional tile. It's transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding resale credibility. Because aluminum cannot rust and does not rot or split, and the Alunar coating carries a separate 30-year chalking/fading warranty, your roof's useful life extends decades beyond the 20-year lifespan of asphalt. You're installing the last roof most homeowners will ever buy.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure before installing a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so it installs directly over most existing roofs without triggering costly foundation or framing upgrades. Even the heavier Shake profile at ~0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to traditional tile's weight penalty. The lightweight aluminum is one reason Interlock has been successfully installed over existing asphalt since 1998: your home's structure already supports its own weight, and aluminum adds almost nothing to that load.

Will an aluminum roof reduce my cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity and up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering attic temperatures and cooling demand. In Joyce's maritime climate with ~3188 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance matters during summer warmth, and the cooling benefit compounds over decades. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measured performance. While heating dominates your fuel bills in a region averaging 10°C annually, every kWh you avoid cooling is money in your pocket — and aluminum delivers that advantage without batteries, inverters, or maintenance.

What happens if hail damages a metal roof?

Interlock roofs carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While hail events in Clallam County are less frequent than in inland regions, the four-way interlocking aluminum design distributes impact stress across the panel system rather than concentrating it at fasteners. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are statistically lower. If severe hail does occur, your roof's documented impact rating provides a clear basis for claim approval — protection asphalt shingles cannot match.

How much upkeep does an aluminum metal roof really require?

Interlock requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or traditional tile. There are no shingles to replace, no wood to split or rot, no tiles to crack, and no annual gutter cleaning from asphalt granule shedding. Occasional rinsing with fresh water (especially valuable given your 1100 mm annual rainfall, which naturally cleans the roof) preserves the Alunar coating's appearance. Because aluminum cannot rust and the four-way interlocking system is sealed, you avoid the routine repairs that burden asphalt or wood homeowners. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance — meaning lower lifetime costs and more time enjoying your home rather than maintaining it.

Is an aluminum metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels can be fully recycled at end of life — no landfill contribution. Your roof breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle: when asphalt reaches the end of its 20-year life, the entire roof is stripped and disposed. Interlock's durability (lifetime warranty, non-prorated) means it will outlast multiple asphalt cycles, and when recycling eventually occurs, the aluminum retains its material value. Over a century, one Interlock roof avoids the waste footprint of four to five asphalt roofs, making it an environmentally sound choice aligned with reducing your home's long-term impact.
