  • Backed by a Lifetime-Limited, transferable warranty to protect investment and resale value for Piedmont homeowners.
  • Piedmont-specific — panels and seam details are sized and installed to shed the extreme runoff associated with atmospheric-river events that impact the northern Olympic Peninsula.
  • Coastal salt‑air note for Piedmont — while positioned on Lake Crescent, occasional salt‑laden storms from the Strait of Juan de Fuca can reach local exposures; the Alunar® finish and corrosion-resistant aluminum limit salt-related corrosion.
  • Moss management for shaded, moisture-retentive sites around Piedmont — smooth, coated panels promote rapid runoff and reduce persistent moss and lichen buildup.

Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Piedmont

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Piedmont, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Piedmont.

Does a metal roof handle Piedmont's 120 cm of annual snow without ice dams?

Yes—aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. Piedmont averages about 24 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which create the conditions for ice-dam buildup under traditional roofs. Metal panels' thermal conductivity allows heat to dissipate evenly, preventing the uneven melting that causes dams. You can add snow guards if needed to manage roof-to-ground snow slides, but the design itself eliminates the pooling risk that damages asphalt shingles over time.

Why won't aluminum rust like steel roofing, especially in wet Piedmont winters?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal beneath. In Piedmont, where annual rainfall exceeds 1,485 mm and moisture is persistent, this becomes a genuine advantage over steel. Our Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides adds a second barrier, warranted 30 years against chalking. After 26 years of coastal installations, we've never seen a perforation from corrosion.

Is metal roofing worth the higher upfront cost in Piedmont?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt—typically 2–3× the initial price—but you install it once and never replace it. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years in Piedmont's climate; you'll buy four roofs in the time one metal roof outlasts them. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner indefinitely and transfers 50 years to the next owner, meaning no tear-off costs, no labor cycles, and no landfill burden. Factor in energy savings from reflective coatings and potential insurance discounts, and the total cost per year drops well below asphalt by year 30.

Can my existing roof frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

No reinforcement needed. Our Shake and Tile profiles weigh just 0.58 and 0.59 pounds per square foot—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most homes can install over their existing roof without any structural work. Piedmont homes built for traditional shingles can easily handle this load. You avoid tear-off costs, minimize installation disruption, and reduce construction waste. The lightweight design is especially valuable in freeze-thaw zones like yours, where repeated expansion and contraction stress heavier materials.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my current shingles?

Installation typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, we install directly over most existing asphalt or composition roofs—no tear-off required. We inspect the deck for damage, add underlayment and flashing, then mechanically fasten the four-way interlocking panels. This speeds the job and keeps labor costs down. Because Piedmont averages 3,085 sunshine hours annually, weather delays are minimal compared to rainier regions. The interlocking design ensures no fasteners penetrate the weather layer, eliminating leak points.

With Piedmont getting 1,485 mm of rain yearly, how does a metal roof prevent leaks?

The four-way interlocking panel design overlaps water laterally and vertically, shedding rain faster than gravity alone. Even heavy downpours run off the smooth aluminum surface without pooling. Underlayment beneath the panels provides a secondary moisture barrier, and flashing at valleys, ridges, and penetrations directs water away from vulnerable areas. When installed to spec—which includes proper slope and secure fastening—this system has zero leak complaints across our 27 years of service in the PNW. The design mirrors how traditional metal roofs have protected buildings for over a century in high-rainfall zones.

Can metal roofing withstand Piedmont's wind gusts up to 126 km/h?

Yes. The warranty covers wind resistance up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and your typical gust maximum of 126 km/h falls safely within that range. Four-way interlocking panels distribute wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Each panel locks to its neighbors, creating a unified system that flexes rather than tears. In the rare event of a severe storm, this redundancy means even if one fastener loosens, the interlocking edges hold adjacent panels in place. We've installed thousands of roofs in coastal and mountain wind corridors without blow-off failures.

Does metal roofing perform well in hailstorms, and can it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—and our warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The aluminum's resilience, combined with its light weight and four-way interlocking geometry, absorbs impact without cracking or splitting. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on metal roofs; we recommend reviewing your policy with your agent after installation. In Piedmont's climate, hail is less common than in eastern Washington, but the Class 4 rating gives you comprehensive protection and potential premium savings that offset part of the upfront cost.

Do I really need to maintain a metal roof, or can I just install it and forget it?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or clay tile. Aluminum doesn't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance—the Guardian warranty covers all of those failure modes for the original owner, indefinitely. You won't pressure-wash, re-tar, or replace damaged shingles. Twice yearly, clear debris from valleys and gutters, just as you would with any roof. Piedmont's 1,485 mm annual rainfall keeps the roof clean naturally. After 26 years in the field, we've seen minimal maintenance issues. Compare this to asphalt shingles, which require inspection and repair every few years—and eventually tear-off and replacement.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and our panels remain in service for decades, eliminating the tear-off-to-landfill cycle that asphalt creates every 15–25 years. Piedmont's wet climate accelerates asphalt degradation, meaning more frequent replacements and more waste. At end of life, your metal roof enters the scrap aluminum market rather than a landfill. Manufacturing aluminum does require energy, but the single installation over your home's lifetime—versus four asphalt replacements—consumes far less total energy and water. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, which translates to fewer service trucks and lower carbon emissions over the roof's life.
