Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sekiu

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sekiu, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sekiu.

Does a metal roof handle heavy snow in Sekiu, Washington?

Yes—aluminum panels shed snow effectively while withstanding the region's average 61 cm annually and gusts exceeding 144 km/h. The four-way interlocking design of Interlock panels prevents lateral shifting under load. Snow load capacity meets or exceeds ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards for residential roofs in marine environments. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle during the 7 annual freeze-thaw cycles typical here, aluminum expands and contracts uniformly, preventing ice dam formation. Optional snow guards are available if you want to control discharge onto walkways.

Can metal roofing handle Sekiu's 2,119 mm of annual rainfall?

Absolutely. Interlock's four-way interlocking seams are engineered to channel water downward without pooling, meeting ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 for heavy-rainfall zones. The overlap geometry means water never sits at panel joints—each cycle sheds water before the next begins. Over 2,119 mm per year, that redundant drainage pattern prevents the saturation and wood rot that compromise asphalt and shake roofs. Properly installed with flashing per spec, Interlock roofs have a documented track record in coastal British Columbia's similar climate since 1998.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum chemically cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in the presence of water and oxygen. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath. When scratched or dented, this oxide layer self-heals automatically. Combined with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against fading, applied to both panel sides), Interlock roofing withstands Sekiu's salt air and 144 km/h coastal gusts without corrosion, rust staining, or degradation. This dual protection is why Interlock installs on Antarctic research stations and coastal homes worldwide.

Will a metal roof blow off in Sekiu's storms?

No. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), which exceeds Sekiu's typical gust maximum of 144 km/h. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically—each panel overlaps and interlocks its neighbors in two directions, preventing uplift or lateral movement. The system meets ICC-ES ESR-1790 wind-resistance criteria for coastal residential zones. Installation following spec ensures fasteners are placed in the neutral-stress zones of each panel, distributing load across the entire roof surface rather than concentrating it at discrete points.

Can I install Interlock over my existing roof without reinforcing the house?

Yes. The Interlock Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft and the Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures designed for asphalt (which weighs 2–3 lb/sq ft) can handle aluminum without reinforcement. This weight savings is especially valuable in Sekiu, where 2,119 mm of annual rainfall adds load; installing over an existing roof removes the labor and disposal cost of tear-off while keeping structural strain minimal. Consult your local installer to verify your specific framing, but in nearly all residential cases, no upgrades are required.

Does metal roofing help with hail damage insurance?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available for any roofing material. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In regions with hail risk, Class 4 certification often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because the roof is less likely to require claims. While Sekiu's climate history does not emphasize hail, the extreme impact resistance provides long-term protection against damage that would compromise asphalt or wood shakes. Request a quote that includes insurance-discount language to present to your carrier.

What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner, giving them 50 years of coverage from completion. This is the only roof warranty that covers both the metal (aluminum cannot rust or rot) and the coating (Alunar 30-year fade warranty, measured per ASTM D4214 and D2244). Over Sekiu's 7 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 2,119 mm rainfall, non-prorated protection means no deductibles or exclusions as the roof ages—you own the last roof you'll install.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need?

Minimal. Asphalt shingles require inspection every 1–2 years and replacement of damaged shingles; wood shakes split and curl, demanding annual treatment and repairs. Interlock aluminum never rots, splits, or curls, and the Alunar coating resists fading (warranted 30 years against ASTM D4214 chalking). Sekiu's 2,119 mm annual rainfall and salt air can degrade asphalt and wood; aluminum sheds water and resists corrosion. Routine maintenance is limited to gutter cleaning (standard for any roof) and occasional inspection. The CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance compared to traditional materials, lowering long-term cost of ownership.

How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof?

Installation typically takes 2–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock panels are lightweight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) and four-way interlocking, so crews handle and fasten them quickly without specialized equipment. One major advantage: installation proceeds over your existing roof in most cases, eliminating tear-off labor and the disposal cost of asphalt in a landfill. No structural reinforcement is usually required due to aluminum's light weight. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and can provide a timeline estimate after inspecting your specific roof.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?

Yes, over the roof's lifespan. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years and requires regular repairs, tear-off disposal, and reinstallation—typically a $3,000–$8,000 cycle repeated 2–3 times over 50 years. Interlock metal, warranted for the original owner's lifetime and transferable for 50 years, avoids that cycle. With no rusting, rotting, splitting, or curling, and a 30-year coating warranty, you replace the roof once. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. In Sekiu's climate of 2,119 mm rain and 7 freeze-thaw cycles annually, the durability advantage is measurable.
