Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Port Angeles, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Port Angeles
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Port Angeles, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Port Angeles.
How does a metal roof handle Port Angeles' heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice dams from forming—critical when your area averages about 58 cm of snow yearly and experiences roughly 26 freeze-thaw days. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, so wet snow loading and shifting won't compromise the seal. The lightweight design (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed, even as snow accumulates, and the non-corrosive aluminum won't degrade under repeated thaw-refreeze cycles that damage steel or wood-based roofs.
Why does aluminum never rust, and why does that matter in a coastal region?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. In Port Angeles, where salt-air exposure and 1100 mm of annual rain accelerate corrosion in steel roofing, this is a game-changer. Interlock panels use 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and are coated with Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides—even the underside—for extra salt-air defense. That dual-sided coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, meaning your roof's color and protective barrier stay intact through decades of Pacific Northwest weather.
Can a metal roof survive Port Angeles' winter windstorms?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Port Angeles sees typical daily-max winds around 15 km/h, but gusts climb to about 103 km/h during storms; the warranty covers both routine and extreme wind events. The interlocking design distributes lateral loads across panels rather than concentrating stress on fasteners, so panels stay sealed under pressure. Combined with proper installation over solid decking, this system has proven itself from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations—conditions more severe than anything Clallam County throws at it.
Will heavy rain in Port Angeles cause leaks in a metal roof?
Heavy rainfall—Port Angeles averages 1100 mm per year—demands flawless water shedding, and metal roofing excels because water drains instantly off the hard, smooth surface with no absorption risk. Interlock's interlocking seams and four-way locking design create a continuous weather barrier that won't degrade like asphalt's tar binder or allow moisture to wick into wood shakes. Installation over a solid deck with proper underlayment and flashing (per ICC-ES ESR-1790 guidelines) leaves no room for leaks. The system is tested and code-compliant for Pacific Northwest rainfall patterns, and the lifetime limited warranty covers water intrusion, so you're protected against the region's wettest winters.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock aluminum roofing is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs can support it without modification, which means you can often install Interlock directly over your current asphalt shingles, eliminating tear-off costs. This matters in Port Angeles, where older homes dot the area and structural upgrades would be expensive. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms installation over existing roofs meets current building code, turning your old roof into a base layer rather than waste.
What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating is rare and often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts, though you'll want to confirm with your insurer. While Port Angeles doesn't experience frequent hail, the region's mix of winter storms and 26 freeze-thaw days creates conditions where impact resistance matters: wind-driven debris, ice chunks, and falling tree limbs all pose risks. A roofing material that proves its durability against the most severe impact standard gives insurers confidence in longevity, which typically translates to better premiums.
What's covered by Interlock's warranty, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no deductible. For the next owner, it's transferable, providing 50 years of coverage from completion, which adds significant resale appeal. Unlike asphalt shingles that degrade after 15–20 years, Interlock's aluminum and 30-year PVDF coating mean your roof is actively protected through Port Angeles' repeated freeze-thaw cycles and salt-air exposure. This is the only roof you'll likely need to buy, transforming it from an expense into a permanent home asset.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing outpaces asphalt financially. Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years in Port Angeles' harsh climate (1100 mm rain, 58 cm snow, 26 freeze-thaw days annually), meaning three to four tear-offs and reinstalls, plus disposal costs. Interlock lasts indefinitely with minimal maintenance and zero rust risk, eliminating the landfill cycle. The Guardian Warranty's non-prorated coverage means no surprise repair bills. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—bridges the upfront gap. When you factor replacement labor, tear-off fees, and climate-driven asphalt degradation, the single metal installation becomes the genuinely cheaper choice.
How much upkeep does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood shake?
Metal roofing requires virtually no maintenance—no annual inspections, no tar patching, no moss/algae treatment. Unlike asphalt, which hardens and cracks under Port Angeles' 26 freeze-thaw days per year, or wood shake, which splits and rots in your region's 1100 mm annual rainfall, aluminum is chemically inert and weatherproof. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal are all that's needed. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance, which also appeals to future buyers when you sell. Your roof stays invisibly durable while your neighbors replace asphalt every 18 years and scrape moss off wood; you call your roofer only for unrelated repairs.
Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (measured per Cool Roof Rating Council standards). While Port Angeles averages only about 3188 sunshine hours yearly and mild 10°C mean temperatures, those sunny days still drive indoor heat gain, and reflective coatings reduce air-conditioning load during warm months. The aluminum also conducts heat away from living spaces faster than asphalt's dark surface, which radiates absorbed warmth into your attic. The coating is warranted 30 years against fading, so reflectivity doesn't degrade—you maintain energy savings for decades without recoating.
