Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in George

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in George, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in George.

What roof styles does Interlock Metal Roofing offer in George, Washington?

Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates traditional architectural materials through its four-way interlocking aluminum panel design. The Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles suit Grant County's rustic character, while Slate and Standing Seam complement contemporary homes. Mediterranean Tile appeals to heritage properties. All profiles deliver the visual character you want with the durability metal provides across George's ~63 cm annual snowfall and 74 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions where wood shakes and clay tiles fail.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in George's wet climate?

Aluminum is iron-free and cannot rust by chemistry. When aluminum oxidizes, it forms a microscopic protective layer that self-heals when scratched—unlike steel, which requires painted coatings to prevent rust. George receives about 210 mm of annual rain and winter moisture cycles, yet aluminum roofing survives these conditions without the corrosion problems that plague iron-based materials. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy per ASTM B209, bonded with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, adding 30-year color and chalking protection.

How does a metal roof handle snow and ice buildup in George?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more readily than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface prevents adhesion and increases slide velocity. George averages about 63 cm of snow annually with typical wind gusts reaching 81 km/h, which actively dislodge snow from metal panels. The four-way interlocking design creates a tight, unified surface that resists ice dam formation at eaves. Snow guard brackets are available if you prefer controlled shedding. Metal's thermal conductivity also helps—radiant heat from below encourages gentle melting rather than freeze-thaw entrapment that cracks asphalt shingles over George's 74 yearly freeze-thaw cycles.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing roof in George?

Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required. The Cedar Shingle installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft. Most George homes' existing framing easily supports this weight, allowing installation directly over asphalt shingles, eliminating costly tear-off and disposal. This approach also reduces labor time and environmental impact. Interlock's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for direct overlay applications under IBC/IRC standards.

What warranty covers an Interlock metal roof, and how long does it really last?

The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty is one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion, which boosts your home's future appeal if you sell. Interlock has manufactured metal roofing since 1998, with installations withstanding George's extreme conditions: 63 cm annual snow, 81 km/h wind gusts, and 74 freeze-thaw days yearly. Metal roofs regularly outlive three asphalt replacements, making this your last roof purchase.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in George damage an aluminum metal roof?

Aluminum withstands freeze-thaw cycling because it expands and contracts uniformly with temperature swings—resisting the splitting and cracking that plague wood shakes, clay tiles, and asphalt shingles over time. George experiences approximately 74 annual freeze-thaw days, a significant stress on traditional materials. The four-way interlocking panel design accommodates slight movement without separating, while the aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) maintains its structural integrity regardless of temperature. Alunar coating flexibility prevents brittleness, so coating failure—chalking or fading—takes 30 years to become visible.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in George's sunny climate?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect summer heat instead of absorbing it like dark asphalt. George averages about 3,506 sunshine hours annually, so reflective coatings meaningfully reduce air-conditioning demand on warm days. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms performance. The reflectance advantage is particularly valuable during spring and early fall when daytime temperatures rise but nights remain cold—preventing the repeated heating and cooling that stresses traditional roofing and drives utility bills. Metal's low thermal mass further minimizes heat transfer into your attic.

Does Interlock metal roofing hold up to hail, and will my insurance notice?

Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and The Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While George's climate data does not flag severe hail, spring and early-summer storm systems can produce large hail; aluminum's non-dent and non-perforation performance under Class 4 testing provides confidence. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofing because claims frequency drops dramatically. Check with your carrier to confirm discount eligibility—your metal roof's proven durability may reduce annual premiums, offsetting installation cost over time.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofs require minimal maintenance: occasional gutter cleaning and inspection after severe weather. Unlike asphalt shingles—which lose granules, curl, and decay over 15–20 years—or wood shakes that rot and crack in George's 63 cm annual snowfall and 74 freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum does not split, curl, or require resealing. Tiles need mortar repair and are fragile in storms. Metal's CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. You avoid the ongoing costs of patching, replacing sections, and managing algae or moss growth. The Alunar 30-year coating prevents chalking, so color endures without repainting.

Is Interlock metal roofing non-combustible for fire safety in George?

Yes. Aluminum is non-combustible and Interlock offers Class A fire classification—the highest rating available. This matters in wildfire-prone regions and for homes in fire-hazard zones, and it improves your fire insurance standing regardless of location. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance under IBC/IRC standards. While Grant County's climate (210 mm rain, ~3,500 sunshine hours, 74 freeze-thaw days) is not defined by wildfire season, Class A rating eliminates fire as a vulnerability factor, offering peace of mind if regional conditions change. Asphalt shingles are combustible; wood shakes are highly flammable.
