Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mardon

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mardon, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mardon.

Will a metal roof hold up through Mardon's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle when temperatures drop and softens when they rise, Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum expands and contracts predictably without cracking or splitting. Mardon experiences approximately 77 freeze-thaw days annually with mean temperatures around 12.3°C, creating exactly the kind of cycling that degrades traditional materials. Aluminum has no moisture absorption, so ice penetration and expansion aren't concerns. The Alunar coating resists UV damage year-round, staying protected whether Mardon's weather is clear or icy.

Does Interlock handle snow and ice buildup in Grant County winters?

Interlock metal roofing sheds snow effectively because the panel surfaces are smooth and sloped, and the interlocking design prevents water infiltration when ice dams do form. Mardon averages about 33 cm of snow annually with typical wind gusts to 81 km/h—those winds naturally help clear lighter accumulation. The roof's light weight (the Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means zero structural strain from snow loading, and you can add snow guards to any profile if you prefer to manage larger drifts. Unlike asphalt, the metal surface doesn't absorb meltwater, so ice doesn't bond and weaken the material.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a rainy climate like Mardon?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the material that actually corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. When that layer is scratched, it naturally reforms. Mardon receives about 203 mm of rain annually, exposing your roof to consistent moisture, but the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds a second defensive barrier warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. The result is a roof that stays intact through Mardon's typical moisture cycles without the iron-oxidation failure that affects steel roofing over time.

Will hail damage affect my roof or my insurance rates?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies you for homeowners insurance discounts that asphalt roofs won't receive. Mardon's climate includes occasional spring and early-summer wind gusts to 81 km/h, which sometimes accompany hail in the Pacific Northwest. A durable, impact-resistant roof reduces claim frequency and repair costs, making it attractive to insurers. Check with your agent about discounts; many carriers recognize Class 4 metal roofing as a loss-mitigation feature.

Is a metal roof worth the initial cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Yes, when you measure total cost over the roof's life. Asphalt typically needs replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, and it transfers 50 years from completion to the next owner. Over 40 years, asphalt means two or three tear-offs, disposal costs, and reinstallation labor. Interlock installs once, requires minimal maintenance, and retains ~95% recyclability at end-of-life rather than joining the landfill cycle. Current financing—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—offsets that upfront difference significantly. The math favors aluminum especially in Mardon, where annual weather variation (203 mm rain, 33 cm snow, 3513 sunshine hours) stresses asphalt across all seasons.

Can a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat rather than absorb it like asphalt. Mardon receives about 3513 sunshine hours annually, so this reflectivity adds up over months of clear skies. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the material's performance. In summer, when outdoor temperatures climb, a reflective roof keeps heat out of your attic and reduces HVAC runtime. The benefit compounds during warm spells and extends your cooling season, lowering utility bills. Metal roofing gives you both winter protection (no ice-dam absorption) and summer efficiency in a single install.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy concrete or clay, weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than the authentic tiles it resembles. Most existing roofs can support this weight without modification. Because the material is so light, Interlock often installs directly over your current asphalt or wood shingles, eliminating tear-off labor and disposal costs. That also means no surprise structural surprises during installation. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards for residential loads across all profiles and climates like Mardon's.

What does Interlock's warranty actually cover, and for how long?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for the original owner. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. Non-prorated means there's no declining coverage scale—you're covered the same on year one and year 40. This structure is exceptional because most asphalt warranties depreciate quickly and rarely transfer. Mardon's climate—with about 77 freeze-thaw days, 33 cm of snow, and gusts to 81 km/h—tests roofing severely, but the transfer provision gives your home market value assurance and your next owner genuine confidence in durability.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Far less than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Interlock requires only annual gutter cleaning and inspection—no moss treatments, no tar-seal patching, no shingle replacement. The aluminum doesn't rot or split like wood, won't crack or curl like asphalt in Mardon's 77 annual freeze-thaw cycles, and won't break like clay tile. The Alunar finish (warranted 30 years) resists fading and chalking through roughly 3513 hours of annual sunshine and 203 mm of rain. You're essentially maintaining gutters, not the roof itself. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance versus traditional materials. This simplicity translates to lower long-term ownership costs and fewer contractor visits over decades.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, but most residential projects in Mardon complete in a few days. Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt or wood shingles in most cases, eliminating a tear-off phase that would extend the project and add disposal costs. The lightweight profiles (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) pose no structural burden, so your existing roof stays in place as substrate. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served this region since 1997 and understands Grant County conditions—snowfall patterns, wind exposure, seasonal weather swings. They'll assess your specific situation, confirm your home qualifies for over-roof installation, and schedule accordingly.
