Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Porter

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Porter, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Porter.

How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Porter's winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, interlocking surface prevents the adhesion that leads to ice dams. Porter averages about 63 cm of snow annually with roughly 20 freeze-thaw cycles per year, creating ideal conditions for ice-dam damage on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels and optional snow guards work together to control shedding safely. The lightweight aluminum (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also eliminates structural strain from snow accumulation, whereas slate or concrete tile would require costly reinforcement. Your roof stays clear longer and safer through the season.

Does a metal roof leak in Porter's rainy climate?

No — when installed correctly, metal roofs are exceptionally leak-proof. Porter receives about 1662 mm of rain annually, and the four-way interlocking seams in Interlock panels are engineered to shed water sideways and downward, never pooling. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a continuous shingle-like barrier that channels water to the gutters. Installation over solid decking with proper underlayment — the standard approach — eliminates any risk of water bypass. Thousands of Interlock roofs have proven reliable from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, many in climates far wetter than Grays Harbor County.

Will a metal roof blow off in Porter's winter wind storms?

Interlock metal roofs are warranted to withstand sustained winds up to 120 mph, well above Porter's typical gust speed of 106 km/h (66 mph). The four-way interlocking panel design means each piece is locked to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof structure rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. That engineering is documented in ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 for code compliance across the IBC and IRC. Homes in high-wind coastal regions and mountain passes have relied on this same interlocking system for decades. Your roof will remain secure through the season.

Why won't my metal roof rust like steel in Porter's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched or dented. Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is paired with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides, warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. In Porter's high-rainfall environment (1662 mm annually), this dual-layer protection means your roof will not corrode, rot, or lose structural integrity over decades. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint maintenance and eventually rusts through; aluminum just gets better with age.

How does the cost of a metal roof compare to replacing asphalt shingles every 15–20 years?

The Guardian warranty offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner, plus a 50-year transferable term for the next owner — meaning you are buying your last roof. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; in Porter's 1662 mm annual rainfall and 20 freeze-thaw cycles, weathering is accelerated. Over 50 years, a homeowner replaces asphalt three times, each tear-off costing $1,500–$3,000 in labor and landfill fees. Interlock's upfront cost is recovered through zero future replacement, zero maintenance, and potential insurance savings (hail rating UL 2218 Class 4 may lower premiums). Current promotion: no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.

Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Yes — Interlock carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That independent certification means insurers recognize metal roofing's durability. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs because hail claims are rare. Porter's climate data shows typical wind gusts rather than frequent large hail, but when it does occur, your metal roof will perform better than asphalt, which bruises and loses granules under impact. Contact your insurer with the UL rating to explore discounts; the investment often pays for itself in reduced premiums over the warranty period.

What maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles (which shed granules in rain), wood shakes (which split and rot), or concrete tile (which grows algae in moist climates), Interlock aluminum roofs are CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Alunar coating resists weathering across 2776 annual sunshine hours and constant moisture. Gutters and downspouts still need clearing, but the roof itself requires only a visual inspection every few years and occasional gentle rinsing to maintain appearance. No sealing, no patching, no replacement of failed sections. Porter's wet, cool climate is actually ideal for aluminum — no UV degradation like in desert heat, and moisture simply beads and sheds off the oxide layer.

Can my existing house structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

Your house almost certainly needs no structural reinforcement. Interlock's aluminum profiles are extraordinarily light: the Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile profile — despite mimicking heavy concrete tile — weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most homes' framing is engineered to support asphalt shingles (about 3–4 lb/sq ft), so aluminum is well within capacity. Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, saving the cost and hassle of a tear-off. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms the load design. A local inspector may clear the project in minutes — one of the genuine advantages of metal over slate, clay, or concrete tile.

How long does installation take, and do I have to remove my old roof?

Most installations complete in 2–5 days, depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and handles the scheduling. Because aluminum panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, they can install directly over your existing asphalt shingles, tar, or even single-ply membrane — no tear-off labor or landfill fees. Your old roof becomes built-in insulation and sound dampening. If removal is necessary, local crews handle it. The four-way interlocking design means panels snap together quickly, and the system installs to spec with typical fastening. Once complete, your new roof is weatherproof and warrantied for life.

Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle forever. Porter receives 1662 mm of rain annually, and asphalt shingles degrade rapidly in such wet climates, requiring replacement every 15–20 years. Each replacement means tons of shingle waste in landfills. Aluminum, by contrast, never reaches end-of-life; if your home is renovated in 100 years, the roof is worth something as scrap metal. The manufacturing process in Delta, BC, uses established, efficient protocols perfected since 1998. Choosing Interlock means zero future waste from your roof, zero tar and granule runoff into Porter's waterways, and a material that cycles indefinitely through the economy.
