Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Broadway

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Broadway, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Broadway.

How does a metal roof handle South Broadway's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum sheds snow and ice efficiently because its smooth, hard surface resists the bonding that causes ice dams on asphalt. South Broadway averages about 112 cm of snow annually across roughly 101 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles as moisture penetrates and expands. Interlock's aluminum core is non-porous; it cannot rot or split from repeated freezing. The panels' low weight (~0.41 lb/sq ft for Shingle profile) means no structural reinforcement needed, even when snow accumulates. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof slides safely.

Why doesn't freeze-thaw damage aluminum roofing the way it damages asphalt or wood?

Water damage requires a material to absorb moisture and expand—asphalt and wood do both. Aluminum is non-porous and does not absorb water, so freeze-thaw cycling has no structural effect on the panels themselves. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (30-year warranty against chalking) seals both panel sides, which is especially critical in Yakima County's 336 mm of annual rainfall combined with 101 freeze-thaw days. Even when snow melts and refreezes, the aluminum expands minimally and contracts predictably—no cracking, no curling, no splitting.

Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode in Washington's wet winters?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms an aluminum oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched—a property steel roofing lacks entirely. In wet climates like yours (averaging 336 mm rain annually), this is a game-changer: aluminum resists moisture damage that would corrode steel or rot wood. Interlock's aluminum alloy meets ASTM B209 roofing-grade standards and carries a lifetime limited warranty against rusting. The dual-sided Alunar coating adds a second barrier, so corrosion simply is not a failure mode you'll face.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure to support a metal roof?

No. Interlock's Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural work. Even the heavier Shake profile sits at just 0.58 lb/sq ft. This matters in South Broadway where snow loading is real (about 112 cm annually); a lighter covering means your existing framing handles wet snow loads more safely than upgrading to traditional tile would. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms installation over existing roofs in compliance with current building code. Your contractor will assess the specific deck, but reinforcement is rarely required.

What's the hail rating on Interlock metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance premiums?

Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because hail damage is a top claim in the region. South Broadway's typical wind gusts reach 87 km/h, and severe weather is always possible; aluminum's proven impact resistance (Class 4 is rare) gives insurers confidence. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty backs this performance, so you have both product durability and contractual protection. It's worth asking your agent about discounts once you've upgraded.

Will an Interlock metal roof reduce cooling costs in South Broadway's climate?

South Broadway receives about 3478 sunshine hours annually—enough that reflective coatings noticeably cut cooling costs. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. That means your roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Over a 50-year lifespan, the energy savings compound significantly, especially during the warmer months. The reflectivity also reduces thermal stress on the aluminum itself, contributing to the durability that backs the 30-year coating warranty.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt shingles or tile?

Aluminum roofing needs almost none. Asphalt shingles deteriorate in UV and temperature swings, requiring inspection and repair every few years; tile cracks and traps debris; wood shakes split and rot. Interlock's Alunar coating (30-year warranty) resists fading and chalking in Yakima County's 3478 annual sunshine hours. The non-porous aluminum doesn't absorb moisture from 336 mm of rain or trap ice from 101 freeze-thaw days. Occasional gutter cleaning is your main task. No patching, no fungicide treatments, no flashing rot. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden, which means lower long-term costs even before the energy savings.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Metal roofing is expensive initially but ends the endless replacement cycle. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years and generates landfill waste; Interlock's aluminum lasts indefinitely with a lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner (50-year transfer term for the next owner). That single difference—never replacing it again—saves tens of thousands over your lifetime in labor, materials, and disposal. Add no maintenance costs, energy savings from 0.55 solar reflectance over 3478 sunshine hours yearly, and potential insurance discounts, and the math favors metal decisively. The current promotion offers no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off, lowering the entry cost further.

How long does installation take, and do I need to tear off my old roof?

Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, but most residential projects complete in 1–3 days with a trained crew. The main advantage: you can install Interlock over an existing roof in most cases because the aluminum panels weigh just 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft—no structural reinforcement needed. That means no tear-off, no landfill waste, no weeks of disruption. Your installer (Interlock Metal Roofing PNW Inc., serving since 1997) will assess your deck and flashing to ensure code compliance per ICC-ES ESR-1790. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together, speeding installation and ensuring a watertight seal against South Broadway's 336 mm annual rainfall.

Is aluminum roofing actually recyclable, or is it just marketing?

Aluminum is genuinely recyclable—about 95% of an Interlock roof can be recycled at end of life (many decades away). That breaks the asphalt cycle: traditional shingles tear off every 15–20 years and go to landfill, repeating infinitely. Interlock's aluminum panels, made in Delta, BC since 1998, replace that waste stream entirely. Recycled aluminum is economically valuable, so scrap dealers actively accept old panels. Manufacturing aluminum does consume energy, but recycling uses 95% less energy than making virgin metal, and your roof lasts so long that per-year environmental impact is tiny. It's not marketing—it's the difference between a consumable product and a durable asset.
