Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Terrace Heights

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Terrace Heights, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Terrace Heights.

Does metal roofing handle snow and ice in Terrace Heights winters?

Metal roofing handles snow load and ice dams better than asphalt because aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow and ice naturally instead of trapping moisture that feeds ice dams. Terrace Heights averages about 112 cm of snow annually with roughly 101 freeze-thaw days per year—exactly the cycle that makes traditional shingles curl and fail. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly across the panel, so ice buildup doesn't crack it. You can add snow guards to any Interlock profile if you want to control slide-off. The lightweight design (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed, even in heavy snow years.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?

No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust or absorb moisture like wood or asphalt do. With about 101 freeze-thaw days annually in Terrace Heights, materials that trap water fail fast; aluminum's oxide layer is hydrophobic and self-heals if scratched. Asphalt shingles crack and curl under the same cycle, but Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading under real-world freeze-thaw stress, measured to ASTM D4214 standards.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that rusts in steel roofing. Terrace Heights receives about 336 mm of annual rainfall, which is enough moisture to corrode steel or iron-bearing metals, but aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying alloy. If the coating scratches, that oxide reforms automatically. Even coastal salt-air homes and an Antarctic research station run Interlock panels successfully. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides for extra protection in wet climates, and it's warranted 30 years against corrosion and fading.

Does a metal roof get damaged by hail? Will my insurance company care?

Aluminum metal roofing is more hail-resistant than most roof types and may qualify you for insurance discounts. Interlock panels achieve UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. With typical Terrace Heights wind gusts reaching 87 km/h and occasional severe weather, hail impact is a real concern. Many insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4-rated metal roofs because they prevent costly claims. Steel or asphalt roofs cannot match this rating. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation once your roof is installed; it's an easy conversation that can save thousands over the roof's life.

Do I need to reinforce my house to install metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is required because Interlock aluminum roofing is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile—which visually replicates clay or concrete tile—installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than the real thing. This allows installation over most existing roofs without engineering upgrades or additional framing cost. Your home's structure already supports asphalt shingles; Interlock panels weigh even less, so you're actually reducing the load. This is especially valuable in seismic regions or older homes where reinforcement would be expensive. The lightweight design combines with Interlock's four-way interlocking panels to distribute wind loads (warranted to 120 mph) more evenly across the structure.

Does a metal roof keep my house cooler in summer?

Terrace Heights enjoys about 3,478 sunshine hours annually—enough to make reflective coatings pay for themselves. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Over a 50-year roof life, you'll save measurably on cooling costs compared to dark asphalt, especially if you choose a lighter color. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies these numbers independently. You won't eliminate your AC bill in the Yakima Valley, but a reflective metal roof under 3,478 annual sunshine hours will noticeably reduce summer energy use. Combine this with the transferable 50-year warranty term and you're building long-term equity in efficiency.

What kind of maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood shake, or tile. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—no annual inspections for missing shingles, no wood rot repairs, no algae growth or moss. You'll never scrape ice dams or apply sealants like you do with asphalt shingles or wood. Heavy rain and snow (Terrace Heights averages 336 mm rain and 112 cm snow per year) simply run off the smooth surface. Gutters need the same seasonal cleaning as any roof. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so you're not repainting or restaining. Essentially: install it, inspect gutters twice a year, and enjoy 50+ years without a second roof purchase.

What's the real lifespan and warranty on an Interlock metal roof?

The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with zero deductible. When you sell, it transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which tells you Interlock stands behind 50+ years of service life. Compare that to asphalt shingles (15–20 years, prorated after year 5) or wood shake (20–30 years with constant maintenance). Interlock has been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal homes to an Antarctic research station, so the track record is real. For Terrace Heights' 101 annual freeze-thaw days and wet climate, a non-prorated warranty that covers freeze-thaw damage is enormous peace of mind.

Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt when you add up total cost?

Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes cheaper over the roof's actual life. Asphalt costs less to install but fails in 15–20 years and sends debris to the landfill; you'll buy 2–3 asphalt roofs in 50 years. Interlock comes with a non-prorated lifetime warranty and a 50-year transferable term—you buy one roof and never buy another. Over five decades, accounting for removal, disposal, and reinstallation labor for multiple asphalt roofs, aluminum saves 30–50% of total cost. Right now, Interlock Metal Roofing is offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, which bridges the upfront gap significantly. In Terrace Heights' harsh freeze-thaw climate (101 days annually), asphalt's lifespan shrinks further, making the math even clearer.

Can a metal roof look like slate, wood shake, or tile?

Yes—Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates traditional high-end materials while delivering aluminum's durability. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles mimic dimensional roofing without the expense, splitting, or rotting of real wood or the brittleness of actual slate in Terrace Heights' 101 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The Mediterranean Tile profile copies clay or concrete tile at 96% lighter weight—no structural reinforcement needed. The Standing Seam offers a modern metal look. All profiles use four-way interlocking aluminum panels with the same Alunar 70% PVDF coating, ice-shedding performance, and 120 mph wind warranty. Your choice is purely aesthetic; the performance and lifespan remain identical. Manufactured since 1998, these profiles have proven themselves across diverse climates.
