Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wiley City

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wiley City, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wiley City.

How does a metal roof handle Wiley City's 112 cm of annual snow?

Aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow efficiently, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels resist ice damming—a critical advantage in Yakima County's 101 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural upgrades are needed for typical snow loads. Snow guards are available if you want to control sliding on steeper pitches. Unlike asphalt, aluminum doesn't degrade under the repeated melt-and-freeze stress that shortens shingle life.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Washington winters?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched and contains no iron, so it cannot rust or rot through freeze-thaw cycling—the root cause of asphalt curl and wood splitting. Wiley City experiences about 101 freeze-thaw days annually, yet the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is tested to ASTM D4214 standards and warranted 30 years against failure. The material simply expands and contracts without weakening, making it far more durable than materials vulnerable to moisture infiltration and ice expansion.

Can aluminum roofing rust, and what does that mean for a Wiley City home?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, a protective oxide layer forms on the surface, and if scratched, it self-heals automatically. In Yakima County's relatively dry climate (336 mm rain annually), corrosion risk is already low, but Interlock adds a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—extra insurance against any moisture exposure. Steel roofs, by contrast, require constant vigilance against rust and often fail within decades in coastal or wet regions. Your aluminum roof will outlast the home itself.

Is aluminum metal roofing light enough to install over my existing roof?

Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required for most existing roofs. Slate is even lighter at 0.41 lb/sq ft. This weight advantage eliminates expensive framing upgrades, simplifies installation, and allows a retrofit in a single day without reroofing delays. A conventional tile roof demands a structural engineer and often thousands in reinforcement; aluminum simply installs over what you have, making it the practical choice for older homes.

Do metal roofs really save energy, or is that marketing?

Interlock's energy-efficient colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. In Yakima County's 3,478 annual sunshine hours, that difference compounds over a year, reducing air-conditioning load and peak demand charges. The Cool Roof Rating Council has verified these values. While Wiley City's 9.8°C mean temperature limits cooling season length, reflective metal still outperforms asphalt during summer peaks and lowers whole-season energy footprint—a measurable, certified advantage, not a claim.

What's the metal roof hail rating, and could it lower my homeowners insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—tested against hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hail of that size, so your risk is transferred to the material, not your deductible. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs; contact your agent with the UL 2218 rating. Wiley City's storm climate occasionally produces hail, so a non-degradable, impact-resistant roof reduces long-term insurance exposure and gives you peace of mind rather than anxiety after every thunderstorm.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap. It transfers once to the next owner, who gains 50 years of coverage from completion. That transferable warranty, combined with Alunar's 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading, makes your roof a durable asset that adds resale appeal. Few products offer this combination of longevity and owner protection.

How does the cost of a metal roof compare to asphalt over 50 years?

Asphalt averages 15–20 years; a typical Wiley City home will need 2–3 replacements in 50 years, each triggering tear-off costs, labor, and landfill fees. Interlock installs once, lasts 50+ years, and transfers to the next owner. When you factor in labor inflation, disposal costs, and the single installation timeline, metal costs less over the home's life—and you never endure another re-roof project. The current promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off, making the switch to a final roof more affordable upfront.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing shingles?

Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt in most cases, eliminating costly tear-off labor and landfill debris. Installation typically completes in one to two days, depending on roof size and pitch. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has served the region since 1997 and handles all prep, flashing, and finishing to ICC-ES ESR-1790 code. Because the aluminum weighs just 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, your home's structure bears no additional load, and no permits for reinforcement are required—making the process straightforward and your roof ready to protect you within days.

Is aluminum roofing really more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock aluminum is manufactured in Delta, BC, from recycled and virgin feedstock. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end in landfills by the millions of tons annually—a 20-year cycle of waste that repeats across your region. Interlock's single installation breaks that cycle; when your roof eventually reaches end-of-life in 50+ years, the panels return to the recycling stream rather than a dump. Yakima County's CALGreen standards recognize Interlock for reduced maintenance and lifecycle impact. Choosing aluminum is choosing an engineered material that outlasts multiple asphalt lifecycles and closes the loop at the end.
