Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Gleed, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Prompt service and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
My wife and I wanted a long-term roof and I think we found it. The product seems very good and are installer Daniel was terrific and a trooper put a lot of hours and a lot of time and made it look real nice when it was completed. I would recommend the company if you're looking for a metal roof.
Ivan Excellent will make it right!!
We needed a roof repair when our neighbors tree dropped a large limb through our roof. Ivan came And accessed The damage, Ordered the sheets we needed. He came back and did the whole Repair himself. So happy to have it fixed along with his recommendations to have the roof cleaned. We appreciate his skills in repairing The roof.
The Interlock associate Ivan, came did an awesome service in correcting the part needed to be corrected, he left us with instructions of what we needed to check and to get in touch with, if needed 😀 Ms. May the associate answering the phone was helpful for us to get prompt service. They are dependable. We received roof service.
The work was efficient and well done. The service, the people and team were great. Beautiful roof.
I highly appreciate the professionalism, workmanship and the quality of materials used. I don't doubt that it will be our forever roof and will not need to worry about replacement during the life of our house. Ross, Tony, Roma were all great throughout the new roof installation process.
We noticed water spots on the ceiling. Ivan came, found a hole likely caused by a branch in the recent wind storm. He repaired the hole on the spot. Thank you Ivan!
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.
Excellent contact and coordination with field representatives and installers/project manager.
We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gleed
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Gleed, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Gleed.
Will a metal roof handle Gleed's heavy snow load without problems?
Yes—aluminum's light weight and smooth, interlocking design work exceptionally well in snow country. Gleed receives about 112 cm of snow annually with roughly 101 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which makes material stability critical. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay firmly seated even as snow shifts, and the aluminum core expands and contracts predictably without cracking or warping like asphalt or wood shakes. You can add snow guards if desired, but the roof itself won't sag, ice-dam, or degrade from repeated winter stress.
Does freeze-thaw cycling damage aluminum roofing?
No—freeze-thaw is precisely where aluminum excels. Gleed's 101 annual freeze-thaw days would eventually split wood shakes, delaminate asphalt, and crack clay tile, but aluminum has no moisture absorption to freeze and no grain to split. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy is engineered for dimensional stability across temperature swings, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (both sides) protects against seasonal expansion stress. Your roof will look and perform identically in year 10 as it does in year 1, even after a century of winter cycles.
Can aluminum roofing rust or corrode in Washington's wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal; if the coating or surface scratches, that layer reforms invisibly. Gleed's 336 mm of annual rain and seasonal moisture make this advantage real: a steel roof would require constant vigilance, but your aluminum roof will remain structurally sound and oxide-protected for life, backed by the Guardian lifetime limited warranty against rusting.
Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I save on insurance?
Gleed's gusts reach 87 km/h seasonally, and while major hail is infrequent, the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) means your Interlock roof resists perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches—and the warranty covers it. Many homeowners see insurance premium reductions because metal roofs prove more resilient than asphalt, which dents and degrades far more easily. Contact your insurer; some recognize the documented durability and offer discounts that recoup the roof's cost faster.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum profiles weigh remarkably little—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This matters in Gleed, where you can install directly over most existing asphalt roofs without adding load to framing. Concrete tile would demand expensive bracing; Interlock's feathery weight means no hidden costs, no contractors calling for structural engineers, and the ability to choose a roof based on aesthetics and performance rather than what your walls can bear.
Will an aluminum roof help with heating and cooling costs?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, which reduces summer cooling demand. Gleed averages 3,478 sunshine hours per year, so reflective coatings earn their place. Even in winter, the thermal mass of the metal moderates extreme temperature swings during the region's 101 freeze-thaw cycles. Over 30+ years, the reduction in mechanical load translates to measurable savings, and you'll notice the difference most on high-sun days.
What is the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner—meaning no depreciation schedule, no fine print exclusions, and coverage for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for a full 50 years from completion. Given that Interlock roofs manufactured since 1998 are still performing in Antarctic research stations and coastal salt-air homes, the practical lifespan easily exceeds 50 years. You're buying your last roof.
How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing demands far less maintenance than asphalt, wood shakes, or tile. Asphalt requires regular inspections for granule loss and algae; wood splits and curlsafter Gleed's 101 annual freeze-thaw cycles; tile cracks. Aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—your roof needs only occasional gutter cleaning and an annual visual check. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish (30-year warranty against chalking) won't peel, and the interlocking design sheds water aggressively, eliminating moss and debris accumulation. Essentially: you inspect it, not repair it.
How long does installation take, and can it go over my existing roof?
Most Interlock installations take 2–4 days depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, you can install over existing asphalt roofing—the aluminum's light weight (0.59 lb/sq ft for tile profile) eliminates tear-off labor and landfill fees. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served this region since 1997 and knows Gleed's building codes, ICC-ES ESR-1790 requirements, and local wind speeds up to 87 km/h gusts. The crew handles old decking assessment, flashing, snow guards if needed, and proper ventilation in one efficient project, leaving no asphalt waste in the local landfill.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment?
Significantly yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock roofing ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle—a standard practice that buries tons of shingle waste annually. Over Gleed's 336 mm of rain per year and 112 cm of snow, asphalt roofs eventually fail and require removal; Interlock roofs last 50+ years and become aluminum scrap value when they finally reach end of life. The roofing-grade aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24) is made with recycled content and imposes zero ongoing environmental cost—no algicide runoff, no granule pollution, no landfill burden.
