Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Valley

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Valley, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Valley.

Will a metal roof handle West Valley's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts uniformly with temperature swings, and the four-way interlocking panel system accommodates that movement without cracking or splitting. West Valley experiences about 101 freeze-thaw days annually with mean temperatures around 9.8°C, creating the exact conditions where asphalt becomes brittle and wood shakes split. Aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 3105-H24) has no internal porosity to trap moisture, so repeated freezing cannot weaken the material itself. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against breakdown, stays flexible through those 101 cycles, protecting the substrate from UV and oxidation.

How does Interlock Metal Roofing handle the snow load in West Valley?

Interlock panels shed snow efficiently because the smooth, slippery aluminum surface prevents ice dams that trap moisture on asphalt roofs. West Valley receives roughly 112 cm of snow per year, and the lightweight design—the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft—means your roof structure bears a fraction of the load that wood or clay tile would impose. The four-way interlocking system distributes any accumulated load evenly across the panels. Snow guards can be added where desired, and because no structural reinforcement is needed (aluminum is about 96% lighter than concrete tile), installation costs remain straightforward even on homes with modest framing capacity.

Why won't an Interlock metal roof rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and degrades in steel. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. In West Valley, with annual rainfall of about 336 mm and wind gusts occasionally reaching 87 km/h that carry moisture inland, this is crucial: the oxide naturally reforms whenever the coating is scratched, eliminating the rust-through risk that steel roofs face. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides of each panel, adds another 30-year barrier against chalking and fading, ensuring the roof remains watertight and aesthetically sound regardless of seasonal moisture exposure.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt every 15-20 years?

The comparison shifts dramatically over a 50-year horizon. An asphalt roof costs less initially but requires tear-off and landfill disposal every 15-20 years, plus labor and waste hauling each time. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty on the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years, means you install once and stop replacing. West Valley's climate—with roughly 3478 sunshine hours annually and recurring freeze-thaw stress—accelerates asphalt degradation; aluminum's ability to handle 101 freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or curling eliminates those costly early-failure scenarios. Current regional promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation—this reduces the entry barrier significantly.

Can an energy-efficiency metal roof actually lower cooling costs in West Valley's sunny climate?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated). West Valley receives about 3478 sunshine hours annually—nearly double cloud-prone regions—so that heat reflection compounds across the year. While West Valley's mean temperature is cool (9.8°C), homes with south-facing exposure or sealed attics still gain summer cooling benefit; the reflective coating reduces the radiant heat load reaching your interior. Unlike asphalt, which darkens with age and absorbs more heat, aluminum's coating is warranted 30 years against fading, maintaining its reflectance long-term and locking in energy savings.

Does Interlock's hail rating affect my homeowner's insurance in West Valley?

Interlock Metal Roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofing because it demonstrates significantly lower claim frequency. While West Valley's hail risk is moderate compared to eastern Montana or Colorado, the durability translates to lower overall risk in your underwriter's eyes. You should request a quote adjustment after installation and provide the UL 2218 certification and warranty documents to your agent. The lightweight aluminum also means no expensive structural damage claims from impact, unlike slate or tile roofs, further strengthening your insurance profile.

Can I get a metal roof that actually looks like slate, shake, or tile in West Valley?

Interlock offers five authentic profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each manufactured to replicate the traditional material's texture and dimension. The four-way interlocking system creates shadow lines and depth that mimic hand-set masonry or wood. Each profile is available in multiple colors, allowing you to match neighborhood vernacular or upgrade curb appeal. Unlike vinyl or composite replicas, aluminum's weight and rigidity allow sharper detail without sagging, and the 30-year Alunar coating holds color fidelity through West Valley's 101 annual freeze-thaw cycles. You can choose the aesthetic you want—whether traditional shake suited to rural Yakima County properties or modern Tile suited to contemporary homes—without sacrificing performance or durability.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof installation?

No. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile, for instance, is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so most existing roof structures can support them without any modification. The Shingle installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft; even the Shake weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft. This matters in West Valley because homes built decades ago with modest framing can still accommodate a premium metal roof, which would require expensive structural work if you chose stone or ceramic tile. The lightweight design also simplifies installation over existing asphalt roofs (common practice to avoid tear-off costs), and the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 covers installation over most substrates without reinforcement, making the project faster and more affordable.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to wood shake or asphalt?

Virtually none. Interlock's aluminum and Alunar coating require no sealant reapplication, moss treatment, or algae cleaning—tasks that consume wood-shake and asphalt roofs annually in moist climates. West Valley's moderate rainfall (about 336 mm per year) and 3478 sunshine hours mean debris doesn't accumulate heavily, and gutters drain cleanly. The non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire rating available) also eliminates fire-vulnerability inspections required in some areas. The Guardian Warranty is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, reflecting the reality: aluminum does not rot, split, curl, or degrade in the way organic materials do. Your only routine task is occasional gutter clearing—the same as any roof—and you'll never re-coat, patch, or replace individual sections over the roof's 50-year lifespan.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in West Valley, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the Pacific Northwest region since 1997—the same year Interlock began manufacturing in Delta, BC. They understand West Valley's specific climate pressures: the freeze-thaw cycling, snow load, seasonal wind gusts to 87 km/h, and the balance between upland dryness (3478 sunshine hours) and wintertime moisture. They install the full range of profiles and colors, handle installation over existing roofs to minimize waste, and back every job with the Guardian Warranty, which offers lifetime coverage on the original owner and a transferable 50-year term for resale value. Their decades of experience mean your project timeline, permits, and post-install service are handled locally by installers who know the building codes and homes in Yakima County.
