Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Kent, Connecticut
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Everybody was great to work with highly professional. Any underlying damage was all taken care of and we love the roof.
> We had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Brown at the Mohegan Sun Home Show and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell him how happy we are with our Interlock roof of ~20 years. We constantly receive compliments from people passing by on how beautiful it looks. Most of all, we appreciate the peace of mind it gives us—knowing we’ll never have to replace our roof, thanks to the lifetime warranty and guaranteed protection against leaks.
Jonathan was great help getting us all the information needed for the roof and what to expect, and the whole process. The installation was fast, the roofers were hard working and professional. The look of the metal roof is superb!
It was a pleasure working with Interlock from beginning to end. The back office was good about setting expectations for job start and duration, delivery of materials (which happened on time) and work to be performed. They were also good about making adjustments to work with trim that needed to be replaced, etc. The crew that did the install and cleanup was very professional and hard working. I am extremely satisfied with the end result and would definitely recommend Interlock! This is actually my second roof, I had one installed on a different property 20 years ago and it has held the test of time with virtually no maintenance.
What a beautiful roof. We are so happy and now we have a forever roof. Thank you. Techs were great. Positive: Punctuality, Quality Services: Roof installation
Salesman was very courteous and polite. Straight forward no hype or fluff. Company kept constant contact, took care of the required building permits. Had the dumpster and materials delivered on time and removed quickly. The crew was phenomenal, polite courteous. Explained everything, and was very conscientious about their work. If the the nail didn't go in the way he liked he pulled it and did it right. Nailing was all done by hand. Roof has been great since no issues and still looks great. Over all very pleased and well worth the money.
Couldn’t have chosen a better product, it’s been 2 years since installation and have absolutely no issues. The house is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Speaking of winter it’s only a matter of hours after a snow storm that all the snow slides right off, no more ice dams and ice filled gutters. The installers were awesome had the entire roof done in a day and a half and cleaned up prior to leaving. We love our Interlock roof.
This letter has been a long time in coming. My husband and I had an Interlock Roof installed in November 2009 and have been meaning to tell you how pleased we are with the look of the new roof and the service provided by the installers ~ Nazaar and Vitality. We’ve gotten many questions and compliments from friends, neighbors and passersby. Both our home and detached garage needed to be re-roofed, with both requiring removal of the old roofing material and the installation of plywood before applying the Interlock product. We were originally told that it would take up to 2 weeks for the job to be completed. To our amazement, the job was completed within a week’s time and that included inclement weather! Nazaar and Vitaliy put in very long days, were very polite, honored their commitments and ALWAYS cleaned everything up before they left for the day. We have children and a dog and found not one nail in the yard after the job was completed. Based on this experience and a product that speaks for itself, we would definitely recommend an Interlock Roof!
I wish to thank " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">Interlock Industries, Inc. for a great roofing system. I'm 100% satisfied and it has a clean and beautiful look. It's great! It's wonderful to know the roof never need replacement again. I also wish to thank Bob Allen, Jerry and Paul McAllister for being so helpful in completing the work. I know this " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">roof system was right when we met Bob Allen the first time, he explained everything in detail. Everything he said was correct. The men who did the work were polite and respectiful, and were clean and neat in the work process. Thank you guys. I would recommend an Interlock Roof for every home, or any building and the long term ">cost is less than another roof system.
Sorry I didn’t get this to you sooner, but I just wanted to drop you a line on the excellent installation of my roof by Nazar and Sergei. They installed our roof in February and never let the harsh weather affect their attention to detail and their determination to do quality work. I was very fortunate to get these two Ukrainian gentlemen as my installers.
I am writing to tell you how much my wife and I are satisfied with our new roof from Interlock Roofing. Our old asphalt shingles were showing the effects of time both aesthetically and functionally. Most noticeably was the water mark on the living room ceiling that just kept growing with each passing rain. We certainly weren't looking forward to buying a new roof, since we were still paying for our wedding six months before, but knew we had to do something soon. I mentioned to Dawn that I had heard metal roofs were becoming popular because of how long they last; but she was concerned our home would look like a fast food restaurant, a factory, or even worse a tin roof barn. She made it clear that a modern looking metal roof would ruin the look of our 1860s vintage home. I said I thought I had seen a couple of years ago a house that was done with what I thought the sign said was metal but looked like shingles instead of ridged sheets she pictured. The problem was I couldn't remember the name of the roofer – just that they had an orange sign. A friend of our mentioned there was a Home Show coming up in Worchester and we figured it would be fun to look around and dream about improvements we could make. As we walked the aisles, I saw your familiar orange sign and product display booth. I said to Dawn look at this! This looks really nice – it looks just like " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate! Wouldn't that look really great on our house! Two weeks later, you explained what made Interlock Roofing different from other materials and the lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty helped us feel confident in making what was for us a major purchase decision. Although an Interlock roof might cost more initially, we think it is well worth it knowing we will never have to buy another roof for this home again. Your company and crews are great! A representative called to let us know materials were being delivered and when they arrived they were neatly stored out of the way until the work began. A supervisor called to let us know when the work would begin, and except for two days of rain which delayed their start, the job was completed within the estimated three days. At the end of each day, they cleaned up after themselves and when the job was competed they raked up any pieces that may have been missed in the grass. The completed roof looks great and enhances the appearance of our home. We have had many people stop and compliment us on it and at least one had already installed an Interlock roof of their own. Should we ever move from this home in the future, one of the features we will look for is an Interlock roof or plan on upgrading to one in our new home as well.
Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kent
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kent, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kent.
Will a metal roof hold up to Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or warping. Kent experiences about 90 freeze-thaw days per year, a real stress test for brittle materials like asphalt and slate. Aluminum's non-porous oxide layer doesn't absorb moisture, so ice can't form inside the material or trigger expansion damage the way it does in wood or clay. The four-way interlocking panels and Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against degradation) mean the system stays intact through decades of seasonal cycling.
How does a metal roof handle Kent's annual snowfall?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more efficiently than asphalt because their smooth, interlocking surface offers less friction and no granule buildup to trap moisture. With roughly 87 centimeters of snow annually in your area, that matters—ice dams form when meltwater refreezes at the eave, a problem that metal's thermal conductivity and reflective finishes help prevent. The lightweight aluminum design (Slate profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even with seasonal snow loads, and optional snow guards can be installed to manage slides safely if desired.
Can my older Kent home's structure support a metal roof without reinforcement?
Yes—and that's one of metal roofing's biggest practical advantages. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no costly roof-frame upgrades are needed. Older homes built for wood shingles or asphalt are more than strong enough. The system installs directly over most existing roofs, saving you tear-off costs and landfill waste. This light weight also means faster installation and less stress on your home's structure during Connecticut's typical daily-max winds around 17 km/h and gusts up to 119 km/h.
How well does a metal roof stand up to Connecticut wind and storms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far beyond Kent's typical gust extremes near 119 km/h. The UL 2218 Class 4 hail impact rating proves the system's structural integrity, and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering, combined with proper installation to spec, gives homeowners genuine confidence through severe weather seasons.
Could a metal roof lower my homeowners insurance premium?
Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofing—and Interlock metal roofing carries the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, the highest available. Contact your agent with your roof's rating; some carriers reduce premiums by 10–20% for this upgrade, especially in areas prone to hail. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, so you're protected both by your insurer and by Interlock's Guardian Warranty. Given Kent's exposure to springtime storms and the region's typical wind gusts around 119 km/h, the combination of durability and potential savings makes sense to discuss with your provider.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce my cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. Kent receives about 3074 hours of sunshine annually, so this reflective advantage compounds month after month. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance gain. In summer, cooler roof surface temperatures mean your air conditioning works less, lowering utility bills. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating protects these reflective properties for 30 years, ensuring the energy benefit lasts across the roof's lifetime.
Is a metal roof more cost-effective than asphalt over time?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the very failures that shorten asphalt roofs to 15–25 years. You'll buy asphalt three or more times in the decades a metal roof protects your home. Factor in avoided tear-off landfill costs, potential insurance discounts, lower cooling energy from reflective coatings, and the one-time 50-year transferable warranty (passed to the next owner), and metal becomes the roof you buy once. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or clay tile. Metal roofing is non-combustible aluminum with no granules to wash away, no wood to split or rot, and no tile to crack in freeze-thaw cycles. Gutters need routine cleaning (as with any roof), and that's the primary maintenance task. With over 1158 mm of rain and about 87 cm of snow annually, your roof's runoff will be clean. The four-way interlocking design and Alunar 70% PVDF finish (30-year warranty) prevent debris accumulation and weathering. Most homeowners never contact a roofer again after installation—one reason the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 cites reduced maintenance.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in the Kent area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served Litchfield County and the broader region since 1999, bringing two decades of New England experience to your project. They understand Kent's local climate—roughly 90 freeze-thaw days annually, gusts to 119 km/h, and about 1158 mm of yearly rainfall—and how to install panels to perform flawlessly in these conditions. The team is factory-trained in Interlock's four-way interlocking system and the installation details that ensure your warranty is honored. They can discuss the current promotion (no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off) and walk you through the process from measurement to completion.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles that end up in landfills by the millions of tons yearly. Interlock roofing, manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle—the system often installs over your existing roof, zero waste. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) retains its integrity forever, never leaching contaminants. With a lifetime limited warranty and 50-year transferable coverage, one Interlock roof may serve two owners across 50+ years, drastically reducing the total environmental footprint versus multiple asphalt replacements. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance also means fewer service trucks and less chemical runoff.
