Interlock Metal Roofing - Illinois was very professional and did a great job.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wesley Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wesley Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wesley Township.

Will an aluminum metal roof hold up through Illinois winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum is actually ideal for freeze-thaw climates. Wesley Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum's oxide layer doesn't crack, split, or absorb water the way wood, asphalt, or concrete does. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels has been installed from coastal salt-air environments to an Antarctic research station, proving its durability through extreme temperature swings. Unlike materials that expand and contract unevenly, aluminum's consistent behavior means your roof stays tight and sealed year after year.

How does a metal roof perform under Wesley Township's snow loads?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, interlocking surface prevents ice dams. Your area receives roughly 70 cm of snow annually, and Interlock panels are warranted to handle wind gusts up to 120 mph—meaning snow and ice won't shift or slide unexpectedly. The four-way interlocking design keeps panels locked in place even during rapid thaw cycles. If you prefer snow retention for aesthetics or safety, snow guards can be added without structural concerns, since the entire roof system weighs less than traditional materials.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a wet climate like Wesley Township?

No, aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that causes rust in steel roofing. Aluminum develops a thin oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, meaning microscopic damage repairs itself over time. With about 1102 mm of rain and significant freeze-thaw activity (81 days per year) in Wesley Township, this self-healing chemistry is a genuine advantage. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance; aluminum doesn't. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, protecting your investment through decades of Illinois weather without rust concerns.

What makes a metal roof leak-proof in heavy rain?

The four-way interlocking panels create a continuous seal that prevents water from entering seams or gaps. Wesley Township receives about 1102 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's design has been proven in coastal salt-air installations where water exposure is relentless. Each panel locks to its neighbor on all four sides, and when installed over a solid deck with proper underlayment, the roof sheds water like a metal roof should—quickly and completely. The ESR-1790 evaluation confirms compliance with IBC/IRC water penetration requirements, so your roof meets or exceeds building code for your region.

Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This proven durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your agent with the UL rating and 120 mph wind warranty to discuss potential savings. Many insurers recognize that metal roofing outlasts asphalt by decades and requires no tear-off replacement, reducing future claims. Whether hail is a frequent concern in Wesley Township, the impact rating gives you years of confidence that your roof will survive severe weather without costly repairs.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes—Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light, weighing as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile and 0.59 lb/sq ft for the Mediterranean Tile profile. The Tile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no structural reinforcement is needed. This lightweight advantage means most homes can transition to a metal roof without costly framing upgrades, and installing over your existing asphalt avoids landfill waste and labor expense. Even with about 70 cm of snow per year in Wesley Township, the combined weight of metal panels plus snow load remains well within standard framing capacity.

Does a metal roof really lower cooling costs in summer?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it. The Aged Copper Penny finish has initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it deflects summer sun while radiating absorbed heat away from your home. In Wesley Township, about 3056 sunshine hours per year means this reflective advantage pays dividends from spring through fall. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms that metal roofing reflects heat asphalt absorbs, reducing air-conditioning runtime. Combined with a 30-year coating warranty, your energy savings compound over the roof's lifetime without diminishing performance.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Interlock aluminum panels don't crack, curl, or rot—eliminating the wood-shingle and shake repairs that plague older roofs. There's no moss growth on a metal surface, no tar bleeding, and no granule loss to manage. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, and with about 3056 sunshine hours yearly and 1102 mm of rain in Wesley Township, your roof cleans itself naturally as rain runs off. Occasional debris removal from gutters is all that's needed. The Guardian Warranty covers cracking, splitting, curling, and rot—all issues that don't occur with aluminum.

Is a metal roof fire-rated, and does that matter for homeowners insurance?

Yes—Interlock metal roofing is non-combustible aluminum, and Class A fire classification is available (the highest rating for roofing materials). This ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance means your roof meets current building codes and often qualifies for homeowner insurance discounts. In a region like Wesley Township where wind gusts reach 102 km/h, a non-combustible roof also won't lift or ignite if sparks from a neighboring fire reach your home. Class A ratings reduce underwriter risk and demonstrate your commitment to home safety. Many insurers recognize non-combustible roofing as a sign of a well-maintained, lower-risk property.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to replacing asphalt every 15-20 years?

Over a 50-year horizon, metal roofing is more economical because you install it once while asphalt requires 2-3 replacements plus disposal costs. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, and transferable 50 years from completion for the next owner—eliminating the fear of unexpected replacement expense. With about 1102 mm of rain and 81 freeze-thaw days annually, asphalt deteriorates faster in your climate; metal doesn't. Energy savings from energy-efficiency reflectance (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) reduce cooling costs. When you factor in no tear-offs to landfills, no maintenance repairs, and potential insurance discounts, metal roofing becomes the last roof you buy.
