I was in the trades my whole life, and I really thought that Jesse and his crew did a spectacular job from beginning to end. My wife and I are extremely happy with the roof. It is gorgeous. Everything was terrific. I am very pleased with everything about the roof. It was a lot of money, but I feel in my heart that it was worth it. I don't understand why people still use shingles, and the metal roof amazes me. I think you will see a lot more of them in the future once people catch on.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Green Garden Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Green Garden Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Green Garden Township.

Will a metal roof hold up through Illinois winters with all the freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes — aluminum actually improves in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust, even when repeatedly exposed to moisture and freezing. Green Garden Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to become brittle and wood shakes to split and curl. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to expand and contract without degradation, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains flexible through temperature swings. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting, giving you protection most asphalt roofs simply cannot offer over a 20+ year lifespan.

How does a metal roof handle the snow load we get in Green Garden Township?

Metal roofing sheds snow reliably because the smooth, hard surface and slick coating prevent ice dams — the root cause of winter leaks in pitched roofs. Green Garden Township averages about 70 cm of snow annually. Because Interlock panels weigh only 0.41 to 0.59 pounds per square foot (compared to 800+ pounds for real slate or tile), your existing roof framing carries the structural load with ease, and snow slides off safely rather than pooling. Optional snow guards are available if you need to control sliding in specific areas. The four-way interlocking seams are sealed to keep meltwater out.

With over 1100 mm of rain annually here, how waterproof is this roof?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in all directions, creating a closed system that sheds water the way a standing-seam metal roof does — not through absorption or adhesive, but through gravity and geometric design. Green Garden Township receives approximately 1102 mm of rain per year, often delivered in intense spring and summer storms. Each panel interlocks with its neighbors at overlapping flanges, and when installed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification over solid decking with underlayment, the roof performs identically to asphalt in heavy rainfall. The aluminum itself is non-porous; water cannot penetrate the material itself.

Why won't an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing does?

No. Aluminum contains no iron, and iron is required for rust to form. Instead, aluminum naturally develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched — a process called passivation. This is why Interlock roofs have been installed on coastal homes in salt air and even at Antarctic research stations, environments where steel would corrode rapidly. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adds a second barrier. In Green Garden Township's climate of 1102 mm annual rainfall and 102 km/h wind gusts, the combination of non-corrosive aluminum and two-sided coating eliminates the rust failures that plague steel roofing within 10–15 years.

Does this roof stand up to hail, and could it lower my homeowner's insurance?

Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest classification available — and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are rare. While Green Garden Township's historical hail frequency is not extreme relative to the Great Plains, severe storms do occur. Aluminum's hardness and the panel's dual interlocking design absorb impact energy without permanent deformation. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation; some companies reduce premiums by 10–20% or more for impact-resistant roofing. This can offset a portion of your roof cost over time.

Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need expensive structural work?

You almost certainly will not need structural reinforcement. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics the heaviest traditional roofing material, weighs only 0.59 pounds per square foot — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Real slate weighs 800+ pounds per square foot; Interlock Slate weighs 0.41 pounds per square foot. Most homes built in the last 50 years were framed to handle asphalt shingles (12–15 pounds per square foot), so Interlock is lighter or comparable in weight. The roof can install directly over your existing roof without decking removal. A local installer from Interlock, serving the region since 2001, will assess your specific home, but structural work is rare and only needed in unusual cases.

What maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or tile?

Virtually none. Asphalt shingles require regular inspection, gutter cleaning, and eventual replacement of damaged or curled shingles — often starting around year 10–15. Wood shakes demand annual pressure washing to prevent algae and wood rot; they split and curl with freeze-thaw cycles (Green Garden Township experiences about 81 per year). Concrete and clay tiles crack and lose mortar. Interlock aluminum requires no sealing, no painting, no replacement of individual pieces, and no pressure washing. Gutters still need cleaning from debris, but the roof surface itself is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Alunar coating preserves color and gloss for 30 years, so your roof looks new with only routine inspections.

Will a metal roof help with cooling costs in the summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers energy-efficient finishes with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Green Garden Township averages 3056 sunshine hours per year and summer temperatures that drive air-conditioning use. By reflecting rather than absorbing solar energy, an energy-efficiency metal roof can reduce cooling costs 10–15% compared to asphalt, depending on attic ventilation and insulation. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance. Over a 50+ year lifespan, energy savings compound significantly, especially as electricity costs rise.

How safe is this roof in high winds? Green Garden Township gets pretty blustery.

Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Green Garden Township's typical wind gusts peak at about 102 km/h, well below this threshold. The four-way interlocking design means each panel is mechanically fastened and sealed to its neighbors at overlapping flanges — not glued or nailed individually. This creates a unified, load-distributing system that passes structural wind testing. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind uplift requirements. Even in severe spring thunderstorms or the occasional derecho-strength gust, the interlocking geometry prevents any single panel from lifting or rotating, keeping your roof watertight and structurally sound for decades.

Is metal roofing really worth the higher upfront cost?

Metal roofing costs more upfront — typically 2–3× asphalt — but you buy it only once in your lifetime, whereas asphalt requires replacement every 20–25 years. Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and hail damage. A transferable 50-year term for the next owner adds resale value. Over 60 years, asphalt costs $20,000–$30,000+ in multiple replacements and landfill fees; Interlock is a single $15,000–$25,000 installation with no tear-off waste. Green Garden Township's 1102 mm annual rainfall and 81 freeze-thaw cycles accelerate asphalt failure; Interlock thrives in these conditions. When you factor in energy savings (10–15% cooling cost reduction in energy-efficiency colors), potential insurance discounts (UL 2218 Class 4), and zero maintenance, the lifetime cost-per-year strongly favors metal.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Green Garden Township’s climate?

Yes. Green Garden Township averages about 70 cm of snow, 1102 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 102 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
