Interlock Metal Roofing - Illinois was very professional and did a great job.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Joliet Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Joliet Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Joliet Township.

Will metal roofing handle Illinois freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?

Yes. Joliet Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to crack, curl, and lose granules. Aluminum has no pores to trap water and expand when frozen. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in Interlock panels cannot rot or split. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so micro-damage from thermal cycling doesn't accumulate. You avoid the typical five-to-seven-year asphalt replacement cycle in this climate.

How does metal roofing handle Joliet's snow loads and ice dams?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt because aluminum conducts heat, warming the surface slightly. Joliet averages about 70 cm of snow annually. Four-way interlocking panels create a monolithic surface that prevents ice damming at eaves. Add snow guards if desired for aesthetics or to manage large slides. The Guardian warranty covers full performance under snow load; the light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural reinforcement needed, even on older homes.

Will a metal roof leak in heavy rain like Joliet gets?

No. With about 1102 mm of rain annually, leak protection is critical. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap on all sides and edges. Water flows over and off; none enters the seams. When installed over a solid deck and underlayment, the system is as quiet and watertight as traditional asphalt, with no deterioration risk. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms performance under the IRC water-resistance standard.

Can metal roofing withstand Joliet Township's wind gusts?

Absolutely. Joliet experiences typical daily winds around 20 km/h with gusts up to 102 km/h. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design locks panels on all four sides, distributing force across the entire roof. This exceeds your region's actual gust conditions by a wide margin, and The Guardian warranty guarantees coverage.

Will hail damage void my roof warranty, or can I claim insurance?

Yes. Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers hailstone perforation up to 1.5 inches. Illinois hail events can trigger insurance claims; a Class 4 rating may lower your premium and proves durability to insurers. Many homeowners recover roof costs through reduced insurance premiums over the warranty term. Ask your agent about discounts on a metal roof with Class 4 impact resistance.

Do I need to reinforce my Joliet home's structure for metal roofing?

No reinforcement required. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft; the Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roofs can support this load without structural work. Older homes especially benefit because you avoid the cost and disruption of beam repairs. The light weight also reduces stress on fasteners and allows installation directly over most existing roofs, saving labor and landfill waste.

Why does aluminum never rust like steel roofing can?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust. Steel oxidizes and pits; aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that stops corrosion at the surface. Even in salt-air climates, Interlock panels are coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Joliet's freeze-thaw stress and seasonal moisture won't trigger rust. You avoid the catastrophic failure mode that steel roofs face as they age.

How long will metal roofing last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. In Joliet's 81 freeze-thaw days per year, asphalt fails in 15–20 years. Metal roofing routinely lasts 50+ years. The coating is separately warranted 30 years against fading, so you buy the last roof you'll install.

Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life. Asphalt shingles are torn off every 15–20 years and sent to landfills; Joliet Township alone generates thousands of tons annually. Metal roofing eliminates this cycle. Interlock panels have been manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed worldwide, from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations. Choosing metal also reduces your carbon footprint because energy-efficient colors reflect heat, lowering cooling costs over decades.
