Interlock Metal Roofing - Illinois was very professional and did a great job.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lockport

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lockport, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lockport.

Will a metal roof handle Lockport's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or failing?

Yes—aluminum's non-porous structure is immune to freeze-thaw damage that splits wood and cracks clay or concrete tile. With about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Will County, traditional materials absorb water into their matrix; when that water freezes and expands, it fractures the material from inside. Aluminum oxide forms a self-healing protective layer that never absorbs moisture, so it remains intact whether temperatures swing between freezing and 50°F or drop to -20°F. Interlock's ESR-1790 ICC evaluation confirms performance in freeze-thaw climates, and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers cracking and splitting for the lifetime of the original owner.

How does an Interlock metal roof handle Lockport's annual snowfall without ice dams?

Lockport averages about 70 cm of snow yearly, and metal roofs shed snow more reliably than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface resists snow adhesion and ice-dam formation. The Interlock panel's four-way interlocking design prevents wind from lifting or separating panels during the heavy snow season; the system is warranted to resist 120 mph winds, well above Lockport's typical gusts of 102 km/h. Snow guards can be added if you prefer to retain snow for insulation or visual effect, but unlike asphalt or wood shingles, metal surfaces don't trap moisture that refreezes into dams at the eaves. The lightweight aluminum (Shingle profile ~0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural reinforcement is needed to support seasonal snow load.

Is an Interlock metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles in Lockport?

Over a 50-year ownership span, metal roofing typically costs less per year than asphalt's 15-25 year lifespan, which requires two or three replacements and disposal of tons of landfill waste. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime non-prorated for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner, meaning zero replacement costs for material failure due to rusting, rotting, cracking, or curling. Asphalt shingles lose reflective value over time, while Interlock's energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 solar reflectance on Aged Copper Penny) reduce cooling loads year-round across Lockport's ~3056 sunshine hours annually. The lightweight panels install over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, avoiding tens of thousands in remediation costs that slate or concrete tile often require.

Does Interlock's hail rating affect my homeowner's insurance in Lockport?

Interlock holds UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 roofing often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because it dramatically reduces claim likelihood; contact your carrier with the UL 2218 cert to confirm your policy's savings. Lockport's climate includes occasional severe weather with gusts to 102 km/h, and while the region isn't a hail hotspot, the non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire available) and impact resistance together appeal to insurers. Unlike asphalt, which softens in heat and dents easily, or wood shakes, which split under impact, aluminum's hardness and four-way interlock mean hail damage is rare—and documented by third-party testing, not guesswork.

Can a metal roof actually lower cooling costs in Lockport's humid summers?

Yes—Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it, reducing attic and cooling-system load. The reflective coatings achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning that on hot days, the roof bounces infrared energy away instead of transferring it into the home. Lockport receives about 3056 sunshine hours yearly; across those hours, this reflection difference compounds into measurable utility savings. Asphalt shingles absorb heat and darken further as they age, accelerating their degradation while raising interior temperatures. The Guardian Warranty includes no-cost material replacement if the coating fails, ensuring reflectance performance for three decades. Lighter-colored profiles (like Slate in lighter finishes) maximize the cooling benefit for homeowners prioritizing energy efficiency.

What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need versus asphalt or wood shakes?

Interlock requires only annual gutter cleaning and occasional moss removal in shaded areas—no pressure washing, no sealing, no nail replacement. Asphalt shingles need re-securing loose nails, patching cracks, and replacing curled or missing tabs every 5-10 years; wood shakes demand annual inspection for rot, insects, and splitting, especially in Lockport's ~81 freeze-thaw days and 70 cm annual snowfall. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, and the non-porous aluminum surface resists mold and algae that thrive in humid climates. Interlock's flat, smooth panels shed debris more cleanly than textured asphalt or wood grain, so leaves and seeds don't accumulate and decompose on the roof. Over 50 years, maintenance savings for metal versus asphalt and wood easily exceed $10,000 per home.

How long does installing an Interlock metal roof take, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Installation typically takes 3-5 days for a standard residential roof, depending on size and complexity; Interlock's lightweight panels (Shingle ~0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake ~0.58, Tile ~0.59) speed the process compared to heavy slate or concrete. Yes, the system installs directly over most existing asphalt roofs without removal, saving disposal costs and labour—no structural reinforcement needed because the aluminum is about 96% lighter than traditional tile. A solid deck and underlayment beneath the panels ensures the same acoustic performance as asphalt (metal roofs are not louder in rain), and proper ventilation under the panels maintains attic health through Lockport's humid summers and snowy winters. Interlock's local installer has served the region since 2001 and can advise whether your existing deck requires any prep or repair before installation begins.

Will a metal roof improve my home's resale value in Lockport?

Homes with metal roofs typically appraise higher because buyers recognize the 50+ year lifespan and transferable warranty—Interlock's one-time transfer gives the next owner 50 years of Guardian coverage from the completion date. The aesthetic variety (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile profiles) appeals to different buyer preferences without sacrificing durability; curb appeal and authentic period styling attract buyers in older Lockport neighborhoods. The non-prorated lifetime warranty for the original owner means your disclosure to the next owner is straightforward: no material failures, no surprise costs. Energy efficiency (energy-efficient colors reflecting up to 0.55 solar radiation) and Class A fire ratings also appeal to insurance-conscious buyers. Most appraisers factor a 40-50 year lifespan into home value, making metal roofing a tangible asset rather than a depreciating commodity like asphalt.

Is Interlock metal roofing actually more environmentally responsible than asphalt?

Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and Interlock's material can be melted down and reused indefinitely. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, generate roughly 11 million tons of roofing waste to North American landfills annually; once buried, the material takes decades to decompose. Lockport homeowners choosing metal avoid the tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely; even if an Interlock roof outlasts your ownership, the next owner can eventually recycle it for scrap aluminum value. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24) requires far less energy to recycle than to mine and refine virgin ore, so recycling a metal roof offsets manufacturing emissions. The 50-year transferable warranty extends the roof's usable life beyond a single ownership cycle, reducing total material churn per generation. Choosing metal is the single most impactful roofing decision a homeowner can make for landfill reduction.

Can Interlock's interlocking panels really withstand Lockport's winter wind gusts?

Yes—the four-way interlocking system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding Lockport's typical winter gusts of 102 km/h and extreme recorded events. The interlocking edges prevent panels from lifting or separating during storm conditions; unlike asphalt shingles nailed at a few points, the metal roof's distributed mechanical interlock distributes wind load across the entire assembly. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance) confirms the system's structural adequacy under severe wind loading. During Lockport's snowy, windy season, snow load combines with wind pressure; the lightweight aluminum (about 96% lighter than concrete tile) means the panels resist both forces without excessive structural strain. Installation over solid decking with proper fastening per ESR-1790 requirements ensures the roof remains intact through the harsh conditions that Will County winters bring.
