This is a trustworthy company. So far everything was on time. The job was completely done neatly. I don't see any areas where the company could have improved. I love it so far. I am just waiting to see what is going to happen, but so far so good. We are going to get a credit from my insurance company, because of the job that was done.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Plainfield

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Plainfield, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Plainfield.

Will a metal roof handle Plainfield's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or failing?

Yes—aluminum's molecular structure actually improves its resistance to freeze-thaw stress. With about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Will County, your roof experiences constant expansion and contraction, which degrades asphalt and splits wood shakes. Aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) flexes through these swings without cracking or curling. The 3105-H24 material is used from coastal zones to Antarctica, where thermal cycling is far more extreme than Plainfield's typical 10.8°C mean temperature. The Alunar coating on both panel sides—warranted 30 years against cracking—adds another layer of protection through those 81 annual thaw events.

How does metal roofing perform under Plainfield's snow load and ice buildup?

Metal panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because of their smooth, hard surface and low thermal mass. Plainfield receives about 70 cm of snow yearly, and the Interlock system's four-way interlocking design prevents snow infiltration at seams while the light weight (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even in heavy accumulation. Snow guards can be added if you prefer gradual shedding rather than sliding. Unlike asphalt, the aluminum doesn't soften in sunlight and refreeze at night—a cycle that locks ice to your roof. The standing seam profile is particularly effective for snow-prone climates because of its vertical ribs.

Can a metal roof really handle Plainfield's heavy rainfall without leaking?

The four-way interlocking design and sealed seams make Interlock roofing watertight even under Plainfield's typical 1102 mm of annual rainfall. With roughly 3056 sunshine hours per year, rain doesn't linger, and the aluminum oxide layer won't degrade from moisture exposure the way asphalt does. Installation over solid decking with underlayment ensures water flows predictably to gutters—no pooling, no leaks. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this system meets IBC/IRC water-shedding requirements. Unlike wood shakes that absorb water and rot, or asphalt that breaks down under UV and rain cycles, aluminum is inert to moisture chemistry. Your gutters carry the water away; the roof never stores it.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof, or can it go over my existing shingles?

No structural reinforcement needed—that's one of aluminum's biggest advantages over traditional tile or slate. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates full-depth ceramic tile, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing roof structure handles asphalt (which is heavier per square foot), so it easily supports aluminum. Most homes can transition directly from asphalt to Interlock without framing upgrades. This matters in Plainfield because it keeps installation costs down and your project timeline short. The lightweight design also means the roof itself won't accelerate your home's settlement or create stress points in walls and foundations during those 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles.

Will a metal roof hold up to Plainfield's wind gusts and storms?

Completely. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind up to 120 mph when installed to spec—well above Plainfield's typical peak gusts of about 102 km/h (63 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This is why the system works from residential homes to Antarctic research stations. Will County's mean daily wind around 20 km/h is routine for aluminum roofing, and even the occasional severe gust won't lift or separate panels. The warranty covers this performance, and many insurance companies recognize the engineering, which can lower your premiums.

What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and could it lower my homeowners insurance?

Interlock Metal Roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means it withstands repeated impacts that would dent or crack asphalt and composite shingles. Many insurers recognize this resilience and offer discounts because your roof is far less likely to file a claim after severe weather. In Plainfield, where hail isn't a seasonal certainty but gusts reach 102 km/h and freeze-thaw cycling stresses roofing materials, the Class 4 rating gives underwriters confidence. Ask your agent about rate reductions; many homeowners see savings that partially offset the roof's cost. The warranty covers impact damage that does occur, so you're protected either way.

Why don't metal roofs rust, and what does that mean for Plainfield homeowners?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—iron is what oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum naturally forms an invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath indefinitely. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) resists corrosion even in salt air; Interlock has been installed from coastal homes to Antarctic stations since 1998. In Plainfield's inland climate with 1102 mm annual rainfall and about 81 freeze-thaw days, the oxide layer faces moisture and thermal stress but never rusts. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both panel sides adds another 30-year-warranted barrier against corrosion. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint maintenance and will eventually rust. Your aluminum roof is chemically inert to Illinois weather.

What warranty comes with Interlock, and how long will this roof actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also one-time transferable to the next owner, who gets coverage for 50 years from completion. That means your roof is protected for your ownership and still has real value when you sell. Combined with aluminum's corrosion immunity and the 30-year Alunar coating warranty, Interlock roofs are designed to outlast the house they're on. Plainfield's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 70 cm of snow accelerate degradation in asphalt and wood; aluminum simply doesn't degrade the same way. Many homeowners install Interlock once and never re-roof again—it becomes the last roof you buy.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles over the roof's life?

Yes, when you calculate total cost of ownership. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–25 years; in Plainfield's climate with 1102 mm rain, 70 cm snow, and 81 freeze-thaw cycles annually, expect the shorter end. Metal roofing lasts 50+ years and carries a non-prorated lifetime warranty, so you avoid multiple tear-offs and re-roofs. That's two to three asphalt replacements during one Interlock lifespan. Add reduced energy costs (energy-efficiency colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs), fewer maintenance calls, and potential insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 hail rating, and the aluminum roof breaks even around year 25—then saves you money. When you resell, a metal roof is a selling point. You're not comparing price; you're comparing lifetime expense and peace of mind.

Can I get a metal roof that looks like slate, shake, or tile instead of the typical standing seam?

Absolutely. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam—all in four-way interlocking aluminum. Each replicates traditional materials while delivering aluminum's durability. The Shake profile handles Plainfield's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles without the splitting that real wood shakes suffer. The Mediterranean Tile profile is 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—no structural reinforcement needed—yet gives you the architectural depth and shadow lines of high-end tile. Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles work the same way. All are finished with Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years, all resist wind up to 120 mph, and all carry Class 4 hail protection. Choose the traditional look you want; aluminum gives you the performance beneath it.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Plainfield’s climate?

Yes. Plainfield averages about 70 cm of snow, 1102 mm of rain, roughly 81 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 102 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
