This is a trustworthy company. So far everything was on time. The job was completely done neatly. I don't see any areas where the company could have improved. I love it so far. I am just waiting to see what is going to happen, but so far so good. We are going to get a credit from my insurance company, because of the job that was done.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Plainfield Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Plainfield Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Plainfield Township.

Will a metal roof handle Illinois freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or wood?

Yes — aluminum's non-porous structure means water can't penetrate and expand when it freezes. Plainfield Township experiences about 81 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to crack and wood to split. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to move slightly with thermal stress without fracturing. The oxide layer that protects aluminum from corrosion actually self-heals when scratched, so micro-damage from ice dams won't compromise the roof. Your roof survives the freeze-thaw punishment without the brittle failure modes that plague traditional materials in this climate.

How does a metal roof perform under Plainfield Township's annual snowfall?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because the smooth, hard surface provides minimal friction — unlike asphalt, which absorbs heat and refreezes at the eaves, creating ice dams. With about 70 cm of snow falling annually here, ice dams are a real concern; metal eliminates that risk. The four-way interlocking panels create a unified membrane, so water trapped under snow melt has nowhere to seep. You can add optional metal snow guards to hold snow in place on steeper pitches if needed, preventing unexpected slides. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft) won't stress your structure even under full snow load.

Can a metal roof rust in a climate with 1100 mm of rain per year?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes in moisture. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading) seals both sides of every panel, providing extra protection in Will County's about 1102 mm of annual rain. If the coating scratches, aluminum naturally forms a new protective oxide layer within hours. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires vigilant maintenance to prevent rust stains and perforation. Over a 50-year lifespan in this wet climate, the absence of rust means zero maintenance for corrosion — no touch-ups, no inspections for hidden damage. That's why Interlock panels have been installed in coastal salt-air environments and an Antarctic research station without rust issues.

Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to support a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Tile profile, which replicates the appearance of heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Even the heaviest profile on the lineup won't overload a typical residential frame. This matters in Plainfield Township because you can install metal roofing directly over most existing asphalt roofs without tearing off the old material, saving labor, disposal costs, and landfill impact. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels distribute their minimal load evenly across the deck. Whether you're upgrading an older home or a newer one, there's no structural engineering required — a straightforward installation for any licensed roofer.

How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof in Illinois?

Installation typically takes 1-3 days depending on roof size and complexity, with no tearoff needed in most cases. The four-way interlocking panels lock together quickly, and the lightweight aluminum (about 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) is easy for crews to handle. You can install directly over existing asphalt, eliminating the waste and labor of removal — critical in Plainfield Township, where disposal fees add up fast. The process begins with underlayment over your existing deck, then the panels snap together in a staggered pattern, and finally flashing and trim are sealed. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001, so crews here know the local code requirements (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance) and can schedule efficiently around Illinois weather — about 70 cm of snow and 3056 sunshine hours per year mean timing matters.

Will my homeowners insurance give me a discount for a hail-resistant metal roof?

Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated roofing — the highest classification available. Interlock panels carry that rating, meaning they withstand impacts from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hail of that size. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation; some carriers reduce premiums by 10-25% for non-combustible, impact-resistant roofs. Will County's typical wind gusts reach 102 km/h, and spring hail is a risk across Illinois, making impact rating tangibly valuable. The non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire classification available) may also qualify for fire-loss discounts. Document the UL rating and ESR-1790 code compliance when filing your claim or applying for renewal — these specifics help adjusters and underwriters recognize the genuine durability you've installed.

Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes — energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect significantly more solar heat than asphalt absorbs. Thermal emissivity reaches 0.84, and initial solar reflectance is up to 0.55 in colors like Aged Copper Penny. Over Plainfield Township's 3056 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance compounds: less heat absorbed means lower cooling load and smaller AC runtime. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the effect — metal bounces heat back skyward rather than converting it to indoor warmth. You won't achieve the savings of a southern climate, but in Illinois summers, reflective metal beats dark asphalt every time. The lightweight aluminum also allows for unobstructed attic ventilation without structural stress, further aiding cooling airflow.

What does a lifetime warranty really mean for my metal roof?

The Guardian lifetime limited warranty covers the original owner for the full life of the roof at no prorated cost — meaning if a panel fails at year 30, 40, or 50, materials are covered without depreciation charges. It protects against rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. In Plainfield Township's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles and about 70 cm of snow, that non-prorated protection is crucial: ice dams, thermal stress, and freeze-thaw damage that would void or heavily depreciate asphalt coverage remain fully warrantied here. Many homeowners view an Interlock roof as their final roof installation, eliminating replacement cycles across multiple decades. The transferability also enhances resale appeal — the next owner gains built-in peace of mind.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt?

Metal requires minimal maintenance — no algae treatments, no re-sealing every 5 years, no cracked-shingle replacements. The Alunar coating and aluminum substrate resist growth and deterioration that plague asphalt in wet climates like yours. With 1102 mm of rain annually in Plainfield Township, asphalt develops granule loss and algae staining; metal stays clean with seasonal gutter clearing alone. No wood shake means no wood-eating insects or rot repair. You'll inspect flashing and trim annually (standard for any roof), but the panels themselves require zero preventive maintenance. The CALGreen-verified, reduced-maintenance design means fewer contractor callouts over 50 years — significant savings beyond material cost. That longevity translates to freedom: install it, and move on.

Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than replacing my asphalt roof?

Yes — aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels can be reclaimed at end of life instead of landfilled. Installing over your existing asphalt eliminates the tear-off waste cycle: every year, millions of tons of asphalt shingles end up in landfills, generating methane and consuming landfill space indefinitely. In Plainfield Township, avoiding that disposal saves transportation emissions and local waste burden. Aluminum's lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft) means lower shipping emissions than heavy tile or slate alternatives. The 50-year lifespan also means fewer replacement cycles per century, compounding environmental benefit over generations. If you choose energy-efficiency colors with 0.84 emissivity, you reduce the urban heat island effect and air-conditioning strain across your neighborhood — a micro-scale climate benefit multiplied across regional adoption. Recycled aluminum content is available in many Interlock panels, closing the loop further.
