I was in the trades my whole life, and I really thought that Jesse and his crew did a spectacular job from beginning to end. My wife and I are extremely happy with the roof. It is gorgeous. Everything was terrific. I am very pleased with everything about the roof. It was a lot of money, but I feel in my heart that it was worth it. I don't understand why people still use shingles, and the metal roof amazes me. I think you will see a lot more of them in the future once people catch on.

Review: January 19, 2018

Last March I started looking for a roofing company when I found Interlock Roofing. I was curious about what a metal roof would cost and the durability of the materials. To my surprise, although the cost of a metal roof is pricey it is well worth the extra money. I will never have to worry about having to replace a single shingle again! In the last 2 years, I have had a lot of repairs done on my roof using contractors who were not very good as I soon found out. I kept losing shingles with every wind that would pop up due to poor workmanship. Please believe me that a metal roof installed by Interlock is guaranteed to not come apart, fade or discolor or they will fix any issues found for the life of the roof although I do not expect to have to make a call to them if ever. Interlocks workers spent 2.5 days installing my roof working 11 hours per day. They are very dependable and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company 100 percent!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Crete Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Crete Township, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Crete Township.

Will a metal roof hold up to Illinois freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does so uniformly across the panel — there's no cracking, curling, or splitting like you see in wood shakes or asphalt after 70 freeze-thaw days per year. The material itself is roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), tested to withstand exactly this kind of cycling. The four-way interlocking design lets panels move independently, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating stays flexible in sub-zero weather. After nearly three decades of installations from coastal salt-air zones to Antarctica, freeze-thaw performance is proven.

Does Interlock metal roofing handle heavy snow loads?

It handles them better than heavier materials. Crete Township averages about 68 cm of snow annually, but the real advantage isn't just capacity — it's what the roof weighs. Interlock Slate panels install at roughly 0.41 lb per square foot, compared to real slate at 10–15 lb/sq ft. That low weight means no structural reinforcement needed, faster installation, and no concentrated snow stress on weak framing. Snow sheds naturally from the interlocked seams, and optional snow guards are available if you want to control runoff. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms code compliance for snow loading across Illinois climates.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum can't rust because it contains no iron — rust requires iron oxidation. Instead, aluminum forms an invisible oxide layer that actually protects the material underneath. If you scratch it, that oxide self-heals when exposed to air. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum used in Interlock panels was chosen specifically for this property. Add the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214), and you're protecting against corrosion even in salt-air environments — let alone Crete Township's roughly 1042 mm of rain per year.

Will hail damage my metal roof, and could it lower insurance costs?

Interlock panels are rated UL 2218 Class 4 — the highest impact rating available — and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That's real, documented durability, not marketing. Many insurers recognize this and offer discounts on homes with metal roofing, though rates vary by carrier and policy. Check with your agent about your specific situation. What matters here: a metal roof won't dent, split, or lose shingles in severe weather the way asphalt does. You keep your roof intact and your home protected, which is what insurance is actually for.

How does metal roofing perform in Illinois wind gusts?

Crete Township experiences typical daily-max winds around 25 km/h with gusts reaching 93 km/h. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification — that's a 30 percent safety margin above even severe storm gusts. The interlocking seams work together to distribute load across the entire roof system; no single panel fails independently. Combined with proper fastening to the deck, this design has proven itself in coastal hurricanes and prairie storms for over two decades. You get both the performance rating and the warranty coverage.

Can I install metal tile roofing without reinforcing my roof frame?

Yes. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb per square foot — roughly 96 percent lighter than concrete or clay tile — so no structural reinforcement is required. Real tile can weigh 10–15 lb/sq ft and often demands beefed-up framing; this doesn't. You can install Interlock Tile directly over most existing roofs, which also reduces tear-off costs and landfill waste. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this for code compliance. For homeowners in older homes or those concerned about structural limits, aluminum tile replicates the look you want without the engineering headaches or installation expense of traditional materials.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Interlock panels don't crack, curl, split, or lose their coating in Crete Township's climate — roughly 3025 sunshine hours per year and 70 freeze-thaw cycles won't degrade the Alunar 70% PVDF finish (30-year warranty). There's no moss growth on aluminum, no wood rot in shakes, no cracked tiles. A simple occasional rinse to clear leaves or debris is enough. The Guardian Warranty covers chalking, fading, impact loss, and material defects — non-prorated for the original owner for life. Compare that to asphalt shingles that need regular inspection and replacement of failed areas, or wood shakes that need treatment and repair.

Does metal roofing actually reduce cooling costs?

Metal roofing with energy-efficient colors reflects heat that asphalt absorbs, cooling your home passively. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84 — both verified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. In Crete Township's roughly 3025 annual sunshine hours, that reflection reduces cooling load, especially on south and west-facing slopes. The effect compounds over summer months; a lighter-colored metal roof can lower attic temperatures by 20–30 degrees compared to dark asphalt. It won't eliminate AC use in Illinois summers, but it cuts peak demand and energy costs measurably.

Is metal roofing more expensive than asphalt when you count the full lifespan?

Metal costs more upfront but becomes the cheaper choice over time. Asphalt needs replacement every 15–25 years; you'll buy three to four roofs in the time Interlock lasts. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated for the original owner (lifetime) and transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion — a rare combination that protects your investment and adds resale appeal. Factor in zero tear-off waste costs on reroof, minimal maintenance, potential insurance discounts for hail and wind resistance (UL 2218 Class 4, 120 mph warranty), and avoidance of emergency repairs from impact or weather damage, and the total cost of ownership tips decisively in metal's favor. It's the last roof you'll need to buy.

Is metal roofing better for the environment?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95 percent recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the ton. Every roof replacement in Crete Township could remove 2–4 tons of asphalt waste per home from the disposal stream. Aluminum itself is endlessly recyclable without degrading, and the panels last so long you avoid the repeat tear-off cycle entirely. The Alunar coating is a stable fluorocarbon that doesn't leach, and the manufacturing process (Delta, BC, since 1998) uses standard industrial practices. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and environmental impact. If you're replacing an asphalt roof, metal roofing is the choice that actually closes the sustainability loop.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Crete Township’s climate?

Yes. Crete Township averages about 68 cm of snow, 1042 mm of rain, roughly 70 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 93 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
