Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Saxonville, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Roofing project review: Ana and Jorge Calvo: We installed a metal roof 3 years ago, we are very happy with it. The roof needed minor repairs, I contacted Jennifer Simons at Interlock and she sent Mr. Galo Rivera. He and his crew repaired the roof and demonstrated excellence in their work. Thank you Interlock Lifetime Roofing! Ana María and Jorge Calvo
They did a good job.
We recently had a metal shingle roof installed by Interlock Roofing from Waltham, MA. The company coordinated the delivery of materials and dumpster pick-up. The work crew treated our home and belongings with consideration and respect. I happened to come home while one gentleman cleared the furniture and plants (there were many) from the deck. He moved our tomato plants one at a time as though they were very valuable to him. They worked very hard at our home for four days, two of which were twelve-hour days for them. This was the direct result of the work ethic of Baha, the crew chief. He was fabulous. They worked Saturday and Sunday, which happened to be Father’s Day, in the rain to finish our roof in the time frame they initially told us. He checked in with us frequently for feedback, and we developed quite a rapport. He is a master craftsman. There is no other way to describe the quality of his work. He was concerned that every shingle is the best. He hand-shaped many of them, and it shows. He improved the original plan for the placement of snow guards. The roof is extremely well done, and we are proud of it and the people who did it. We expected our yard to be a mess when the roof was finished. There was no mess. None of our perennials were damaged, and we have several next to the house. One man used a magnet to pick up the nails on the ground from removing the old roof. Baha even had one of his men push the materials in the dumpster down so that it would look as nice as possible for the twelve hours it sat full in our yard.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Saxonville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Saxonville, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Saxonville.
Does metal roofing handle Saxonville's heavy snow loads and ice dams?
Yes—aluminum's extremely light weight (the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means snow loads pose no structural risk, and the four-way interlocking panels shed meltwater efficiently. Saxonville averages about 123 cm of snow annually over roughly 93 freeze-thaw days, creating conditions where ice dams commonly form under asphalt. Metal's smooth surface and thermal properties work against ice dam formation; optional snow guards can be added if you want to preserve snow accumulation for insulation. The coating's 30-year PVDF warranty ensures performance through decades of freeze-thaw cycling without degradation.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Massachusetts damage an aluminum metal roof?
Aluminum actually improves under freeze-thaw stress because it contains no iron and cannot rust. With about 93 freeze-thaw days per year in Saxonville, asphalt shingles expand and contract thousands of times, eventually cracking; aluminum alloy (ASTM B209, 3105-H24) is engineered for this cycling and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched. The two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (both panel faces) resists degradation through the temperature swings you experience between winter and spring thaw. This durability is documented in ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance testing.
Are metal roofs strong enough for New England wind gusts?
Yes—the four-way interlocking panel design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Saxonville's typical gust hazards (which reach about 104 km/h or 65 mph in the 10-year record). The locking system distributes wind load across multiple panels rather than stressing fasteners at isolated points, the way asphalt shingles do. ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this design meets IBC/IRC structural standards. During nor'easters that bring gusts approaching 100 km/h, the interlocked seams prevent water or wind infiltration, whereas asphalt tabs can lift and tear.
Will a metal roof reduce my homeowner's insurance costs in Massachusetts?
Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 hail-rated roofs—the highest impact classification available—and Interlock's panels carry that rating, warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Saxonville's climate data shows hail is not a dominant local threat, the Class 4 rating and non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire available) often qualify for combined hazard reductions. Contact your agent with the ICC-ES ESR-1790 report and UL listing; many companies reduce premiums 10-15% for impact-rated, fire-resistant roofing. The lifetime warranty also reduces perceived risk.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need structural upgrades?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Slate profile weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than traditional slate, clay, or concrete tile. Most existing roof framing was engineered to support asphalt shingles (about 2.5 lb/sq ft), so aluminum—even the heavier Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—adds minimal load. This light weight also means installation is faster and gentler on your home, and Interlock panels can install directly over most existing roofs, eliminating tear-off labor and landfill waste. The structural advantage is especially valuable for older Saxonville homes with original framing.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Essentially none for performance, though occasional cleaning improves appearance. Unlike asphalt (which loses granules, cracks, and curls), wood shake (which splits and rots), or tile (which requires mortar repair and algae removal), aluminum doesn't degrade. Saxonville's 1058 mm annual rainfall means gutters will fill with debris from nearby trees, not roof material. A rinse every few years removes dust or pollen; the two-sided Alunar coating resists mildew in humid climates. CALGreen building standards recognize metal roofing as reduced-maintenance because the material itself needs no preservatives, sealants, or periodic replacement. The Guardian warranty covers defects, not maintenance, because there are so few.
How long will my metal roof last, and what does the warranty cover?
Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—essentially all forms of material failure. The coating carries a separate 30-year warranty against fading and chalking. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding long-term value if you sell. With aluminum's corrosion resistance and minimal wear mechanisms, roofs routinely outlast 50 years in service; one Interlock installation at an Antarctic research station demonstrates performance in extreme conditions. No asphalt or wood roof offers this protection.
Do metal roofs really save on cooling costs in summer?
Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). While Saxonville's 3054 annual sunshine hours are modest compared to southern climates, every degree of reflected heat reduces air-conditioning demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification quantifies this: asphalt absorbs infrared energy and radiates it into the home; metal reflects it back to the atmosphere. Over a 50-year lifespan, this cooling advantage compounds, especially in June-August when peak utility rates apply. The lighter color options cost the same as dark ones, so the energy benefit is a pure gain.
Is a metal roof actually more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Significantly. Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles (which fail every 15-25 years) end up in landfills; Saxonville's roughly 1058 mm annual rainfall and 123 cm snow load accelerate asphalt failure through freeze-thaw cycling, increasing your replacement frequency. Over 50 years, you'd discard 2-3 asphalt roofs, each generating tons of landfill waste. Interlock's single lifetime installation eliminates the tear-off-to-landfill cycle. The aluminum alloy is manufactured responsibly in Delta, BC, and the two-sided coating process ensures durability, so material is used sparingly. At end-of-life, aluminum scrap has genuine economic value and is routinely recovered.
