Review: October 15, 2023 Completion: June 12, 2023

Interlock metal roofing came within a few weeks after we had agreed to the new roof. They covered all the roofs with plywood. Then a layer of waterproof material. They were very neat picking up after themselves. They used a large magnet to get the nails. The finished job looks wonderful. I also liked that their office was in Walpole just the next town. The only complaint I have is that on the next to last day they worked in between a Thunder storm and pouring rain. I wished they had waited until the roof was dryer to install the metal shingles. Positive: Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value

Review: April 13, 2005 Completion: March 29, 2005

We recently purchased a new roof for our 30 year old home. The original roof on our home was in poor shape and as I work with many contractors in town, I realized that a new asphalt roof would not last the 30 years that the original roof did. We were first introduced to Interlock Industries at the home show at Gillette Stadium. From there we were visited at home by a salesman, Michael Yaniv. He explained how the whole process worked and was very helpful in choosing our roof - the one we ended up with was my least favorite but it works wonderfully with our house and we are very pleased with the final look. The workman completed the work in less than a week - and that included working all day Easter Sunday! Their work ethic and consideration of us and our home is to be commended. They were always pleasant, they worked long days and at the end of each day the work site was completely clean. The took care to avoid damaging any of our shrubs and gardens. The finished roof looks gorgeous and we have already had many comments on our "beautiful new roof." I was also surprised at how quiet it is during rainstorms - and it was tested this past weekend! We highly recommend your company and roof to anyone interested. You can call us at (number removed) if you have any questions.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Walpole

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Walpole, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Walpole.

Does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice dams in South Walpole winters?

Yes—metal roofs shed snow more effectively than asphalt shingles because the smooth, hard surface resists ice dam formation. South Walpole averages about 76 centimeters of snow annually, and the region experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which stresses asphalt but leaves aluminum unaffected. Four-way interlocking panels lock tight even as temperature swings occur, and you can install snow guards to manage snow slides if desired. The non-porous aluminum won't absorb melt-water or weaken from repeated freezing.

How well does aluminum hold up to freeze-thaw cycling?

Aluminum is inherently stable through freeze-thaw cycles because it expands and contracts uniformly and does not absorb water. With about 83 freeze-thaw days annually in Norfolk County, asphalt and wood shake roofs deteriorate as moisture penetrates and then expands when frozen; Interlock aluminum panels resist that cycle entirely. The 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for this precise stress, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating bonds to both panel sides, protecting against moisture infiltration at seams. Over a 40-year roof life, that's 3,300+ cycles—asphalt won't survive half that without failing.

Will a metal roof rust, especially with Massachusetts weather?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a microscopically thin oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched—a property steel roofs do not have. Even near coastal salt air, Interlock has been installed from Nova Scotia to Antarctica since 1998. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding a second line of defense. With about 1,200 millimeters of annual rainfall in South Walpole, that two-sided coating is the difference between a roof lasting 50 years and one failing in 20.

Can I install a metal tile roof over my existing roof without reinforcing the structure?

Yes—Interlock metal tile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, weighing only ~0.59 pounds per square foot. Most existing residential framing can support that load without reinforcement, which saves thousands in structural work. Compare that to slate, which can weigh 10 to 15 times more, or clay tile at similar weights: those require expensive engineering and reinforcement. Because Interlock panels install four-way interlocked and directly over your current roof deck (with proper flashing), your contractor can often complete the job without disturbing your home's interior. That simplicity also means faster installation and less disruption during South Walpole's brief warm weather windows.

Is a metal roof safe in high winds and nor'easters?

Absolutely. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 miles per hour (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and South Walpole typical gusts average 19 km/h with extremes around 118 km/h—well within that safety margin. Four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors at the edges, distributing wind pressure across the whole roof rather than allowing individual panels to lift. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms code compliance for high-wind zones. If a severe gust does occur, that interlocked assembly prevents catastrophic failure; a few asphalt shingles might blow off, but your metal roof stays intact.

Will a metal roof save me money on homeowners insurance after hail?

Many insurers offer discounts for UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated roofs—the highest rating available—and Interlock meets that standard. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, which is rare in Massachusetts but possible during severe thunderstorms. Check with your insurer for specific discount eligibility; some carriers reduce premiums 10-20% for Class 4 roofs because claims are so rare. In Norfolk County, where about 3,050 sunshine hours per year dominate, hail is infrequent, but when it does occur, an asphalt roof often requires expensive replacement while aluminum simply continues protecting your home. That risk reduction is why savvy insurers reward the switch.

Can a metal roof really cut cooling costs?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect sunlight rather than absorb it like asphalt does. Over 3,050 annual sunshine hours in South Walpole, that reflection compounds into measurable cooling savings, especially if air conditioning runs spring through fall. The Cool Roof Rating Council verifies those reflectance values, so you're not buying marketing claims. Dark asphalt absorbs the sun's energy and transfers it into your attic; aluminum bounces most of it back. During a typical New England summer, homeowners report 10-15% reductions in cooling-related electricity use, though savings depend on your insulation, climate control habits, and roof color choice.

What warranty does Interlock Metal Roofing offer, and how long will the roof really last?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which is a powerful incentive if you ever sell. In practice, properly installed Interlock roofs last 50+ years in climates like South Walpole, where about 1,200 millimeters of rain and 83 freeze-thaw cycles annually stress conventional roofing. An asphalt roof typically needs replacement every 15-25 years; you'll buy at least two asphalt roofs in the time one Interlock roof protects your home. That's why it's often called your last roof.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance—no moss treatment, no shingle replacement, no wood sealing. Unlike asphalt, which sheds granules and curls as UV and temperature swings (83 freeze-thaw days annually) degrade the binder, aluminum panels hold their shape and finish. Unlike wood shake, which splits and rots in South Walpole's 1,200+ millimeters of annual rainfall, aluminum never absorbs water or supports mold growth. You may occasionally clear leaves from valleys or check flashing after severe weather, but you won't re-roof, re-seal, or replace individual shingles. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against fading, meaning no repainting needed. Over a 50-year lifespan, that maintenance difference translates to hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars saved.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in South Walpole, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. serves the South Walpole region and has been installing in this area since 1999. They understand Norfolk County's climate—the freeze-thaw cycles, the rainfall patterns, the nor'easter wind gusts—and they know how to flash and install panels correctly so they perform as warranted. Factory-trained installers are crucial because even the best material fails if installation is poor, and this company's quarter-century of regional experience means they've dealt with every roof condition and weather challenge your home might present. They also back their work with the same Guardian warranty that covers the panels themselves, so you have one point of contact for any future questions or service needs.
