What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pine City
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pine City, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pine City.
How does a metal roof handle Pine City's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because aluminum naturally resists bonding to frozen buildup — unlike asphalt shingles that trap moisture. Pine City receives about 103 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 81 freeze-thaw days each year; that repeated cycling causes asphalt to crack and curl, but aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy flexes with temperature swings without permanent damage. The panels are also light enough (Slate installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) that snow load poses no structural concern, and optional snow guards can be added if you prefer managed snow release.
Why won't my metal roof rust like I've heard steel roofs do?
Interlock roofing is made from roofing-grade aluminum (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust — only steel rusts. Aluminum naturally forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal even if the coating is scratched. Added protection comes from the Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Mille Lacs County's climate with about 705 mm of annual rain, this double-sided coating is especially valuable, shielding the underside during humid springs and protecting against any salt spray carried by wind gusts that reach 99 km/h.
Will my insurance company give me a discount if I install Interlock metal roofing?
Possibly — many insurers offer discounts for roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail-impact rating available, and Interlock meets that standard. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Since Pine City averages 3067 sunshine hours annually and storms can bring high wind gusts of 99 km/h, hail risk is real. Contact your insurance agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification; some carriers recognize the durability advantage and lower your premium, partly offsetting your installation cost. We recommend getting a quote comparison before and after the installation.
Can a metal roof really withstand Minnesota wind and storms?
Yes — Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Pine City's typical wind gusts average 18 km/h daily but can spike to 99 km/h during storms; the interlocking design means each panel is mechanically locked to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. This is why the panels stay secure even in severe weather. Combined with correct installation over solid decking, the system has proven reliable from coastal salt-air homes to research stations in Antarctica — climates far more extreme than Minnesota's.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure before installing a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the heavier Mediterranean Tile — which replicates the look of ceramic tile — weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof structures in Pine City can support this load without modification. The lightweight design is particularly valuable here because about 103 cm of snow falls annually; you avoid the combined burden of heavy roof material plus snow accumulation. Many homes can even install Interlock directly over an existing asphalt roof, saving the cost and waste of a tear-off.
Does freeze-thaw cycling in Minnesota damage metal roofing?
Metal roofing actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycles because aluminum expands and contracts smoothly without cracking. Pine City's 81 annual freeze-thaw days are typical for the region; asphalt shingles and wood shakes absorb moisture and become brittle when frozen, then crack when they warm and dry. Aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy flexes predictably with temperature changes — it doesn't absorb moisture that causes damage. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against cracking and chalking, further protects the substrate. This resilience to repeated wet-freeze-thaw cycles is one reason Interlock roofing lasts decades in Minnesota's climate.
How does the lifetime cost of a metal roof compare to replacing asphalt shingles multiple times?
Interlock metal roofing is your last roof purchase. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, and impact damage with no age-based reduction. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–20 years in Pine City's climate — with 705 mm annual rain and 81 freeze-thaw days — meaning you'd replace them three or four times over a 50–60 year span. Each replacement costs money and labor; metal roofing installs once and outlasts the home. While the initial cost is higher, spreading that single installation across decades beats the cumulative expense, labor disruption, and environmental cost of multiple tear-offs and landfill disposal.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Unlike asphalt shingles that curl, crack, and lose granules — especially under Pine City's 81 annual freeze-thaw cycles — Interlock aluminum is non-combustible and CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Wood shakes rot and split; clay tile cracks in freeze-thaw weather. Metal panels simply shed debris and snow (about 103 cm falls annually) without degradation. Your main task is occasional gutter cleaning, just as with any roof. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so repainting is not needed. This simplicity means lower lifetime costs and fewer service calls.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timelines depend on roof size and complexity, but Interlock metal roofing installs quickly because panels are lightweight and four-way interlocking — no need for individual fastening. Yes, you can install directly over most existing asphalt roofs without a tear-off, provided the structure is sound. This saves labor, debris removal, and landfill costs. Our local installer, serving Mille Lacs County since 2001, can assess your roof during a consultation and provide a timeline for your specific home. Installing over existing materials also creates extra insulation and underlayment, which improves sound dampening and thermal performance in Pine City's climate of about 3067 annual sunshine hours.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Substantially better. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills — and you typically discard them every 15–20 years in Pine City's climate, with about 705 mm annual rain and freeze-thaw damage. A single metal roof installation eliminates the need for multiple tear-offs and replacements over a home's lifetime, reducing your cumulative environmental footprint dramatically. The aluminum substrate came from recycled sources in many cases, and the panels themselves can be melted down and repurposed rather than buried. Choosing metal roofing breaks the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle and supports a circular materials economy.
