Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mille Lacs Lake Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mille Lacs Lake Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mille Lacs Lake Township.

How does metal roofing handle Minnesota snow loads and ice dams?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice effectively because its smooth, hard surface prevents the water layer that forms ice dams on asphalt. Mille Lacs Lake Township receives about 112 cm of snow annually, and the aluminum panels' interlocking design channels meltwater away from seams. The four-way interlock system prevents wind-driven snow from entering panels, and snow guards can be installed if you want to control shedding onto walkways. Unlike wood shakes that absorb moisture and crack, aluminum stays dimensionally stable through thaw cycles.

Will a metal roof survive freeze-thaw cycles in Mille Lacs Lake Township?

Yes—metal roofing is actually ideal for freeze-thaw environments. Your area experiences roughly 80 freeze-thaw days yearly, and aluminum's non-porous structure means water cannot enter the material and expand when frozen. The aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24) has no internal voids to trap moisture, so it won't crack, warp, or deteriorate the way wood shakes, asphalt, or clay tiles do over repeated cycles. The Alunar coating protects both sides of every panel, adding durability through Minnesota's temperature swings.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust or corrode?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a transparent oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched—a property asphalt and steel roofs don't have. Even in wet climates like Mille Lacs Lake Township, which receives about 606 mm of rain yearly, the Alunar fluorocarbon finish on both sides of the panel provides an extra 30-year warranty against corrosion. Steel roofing will rust; aluminum becomes more durable with age, making it the only non-ferrous choice for long-term protection in areas with heavy moisture.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No—aluminum's exceptional lightness means most homes need no structural reinforcement. The Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates heavy clay tile) is about 96% lighter than the real thing. Mille Lacs Lake Township homes built to handle traditional asphalt shingles will support metal roofing without upgrades. This also matters during installation: you can often install the new metal roof directly over an existing asphalt roof, avoiding costly tear-off and landfill fees. Structural engineers appreciate aluminum's predictable load profile, especially important in your region's 112 cm annual snowfall.

Will a metal roof withstand Minnesota wind gusts?

Metal roofing rated for 120 mph winds easily handles Mille Lacs Lake Township's typical gusts of up to 97 km/h (60 mph). The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together like a puzzle, creating a unified structure that resists uplift and lateral stress far better than overlapping shingles. When installed to specification, Interlock Metal Roofing panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, meaning your roof will outlast any storm your area typically produces. Spring and fall storms with gusts near 97 km/h pose no risk to a properly installed metal system.

What hail protection does metal roofing offer?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Unlike asphalt shingles that can tear or bruise, or wood shakes that split, aluminum deforms without fracturing and maintains its watertight seal. Some insurance companies offer discounts for Class 4 impact-rated roofs; check with your carrier about potential savings. The combination of non-combustible aluminum and impact durability often lowers overall risk profiles, which insurers notice.

Is metal roofing fire-resistant?

Aluminum is non-combustible and achieves a Class A fire rating, the highest available. Because aluminum contains no wood, tar, or petroleum products, it cannot ignite or spread flame—a major advantage over asphalt shingles and wood shakes. This matters in Minnesota where dry springs and fall winds increase wildfire risk regionally. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with fire codes nationwide. Some homeowners find that non-combustible roofing also qualifies for insurance credits, and it provides peace of mind during high-risk seasons.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or tile. Asphalt shingles deteriorate under UV exposure and need periodic replacement; wood shakes split in freeze-thaw cycles like the 80 annual cycles Mille Lacs Lake Township experiences; clay or concrete tile cracks and requires individual replacements. Metal roofing needs only occasional debris removal and gutter cleaning—no sealant reapplication, no granule loss, no moss treatment. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty means your color and finish remain stable through thousands of hours of sunlight and Minnesota's temperature extremes.

What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original homeowner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no cost-share deductible. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, lasting 50 years from completion—a major resale advantage. That means your roof is guaranteed for your ownership, and the next buyer gets decades of continued protection. Unlike asphalt shingles warranted only 20–30 years (often with high deductibles), this warranty reflects aluminum's actual durability in climates like yours with 112 cm of snow and 606 mm of rain annually.

Can metal roofing lower cooling costs?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorb it like asphalt. Homes with reflective metal roofing stay cooler in summer, reducing air conditioning runtime. Mille Lacs Lake Township receives about 3041 sunshine hours yearly, and even in a cold climate, the spring and summer reflection cuts cooling loads when it matters most. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates these panels with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they shed heat efficiently. While winter heating still relies on insulation, summer cooling savings offset energy costs over the roof's life.
