What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Opstead
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Opstead, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Opstead.
How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface provides less friction for accumulation. Opstead receives about 107 cm of snow annually across a climate with roughly 74 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels, installed over a solid deck with underlayment, remain watertight through repeated thaw cycles. You can add snow guards to any profile if you prefer controlled shedding, but the roof itself won't degrade from the freeze-thaw stress that shortens asphalt life. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) also means no structural concern even after snow sits for weeks.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum's properties actually improve in freeze-thaw climates. The metal expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it doesn't absorb moisture the way asphalt, wood, or concrete tile does—so it never splits, rots, or cracks from water trapped inside. With around 74 freeze-thaw days per year in Opstead, asphalt shingles typically curl and fail within 15–20 years. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, protects the aluminum oxide layer, which self-heals when scratched. The Guardian warranty covers splitting and cracking explicitly, giving you confidence your roof will outlast the stress that destroys traditional materials.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust or corrode in Minnesota?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. The material naturally forms a thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; when scratched, this layer reforms automatically. Steel roofs require paint and sealants to prevent rust, especially in wet climates like Opstead's (about 650 mm of rain yearly), where that protection eventually fails. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, proving durability in the harshest moisture environments. The Alunar coating on both sides of each panel adds a 30-year warranty against fading and chalking. You'll never deal with rust stains, patches, or structural weakening from corrosion.
Are metal roofs at risk from Minnesota wind gusts?
Interlock metal roofs are engineered to exceed Opstead's typical wind conditions. The region experiences gusts reaching about 108 km/h, but the panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design locks each panel on all sides to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the roof rather than allowing individual panels to lift or flutter. This mechanical interlocking—not adhesive or fasteners alone—makes the system inherently stronger than shingles nailed to sheathing. With about 3,123 sunshine hours yearly, you'll see your roof stand firm through spring storms and winter blasts without the flapping, leaking, or blow-off failures that cost asphalt roof owners thousands in emergency repairs.
How does a metal roof perform in hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because claims for hail damage are extremely rare; some insurers reduce premiums by 10–20% for metal roofs. In Opstead's climate, where spring and early summer storms are common, a Class 4-rated roof transfers that risk from your shoulders to the manufacturer's. Steel and asphalt roofs dent, bruise, or puncture in similar hail events, leading to costly claims and premium increases. Contact your insurer about savings—many welcome the durability of metal roofing and reflect that in your rate.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection, moss/algae treatment, and are CALGreen-verified as requiring reduced maintenance—a regulatory acknowledgment that other roofs are maintenance-heavy. Interlock aluminum resists algae growth, won't split or rot, and never needs sealant reapplication. In Opstead's 107 cm annual snowfall, you won't have to worry about ice dam damage or snow-load settling into degraded areas. A simple annual rinse removes any dust accumulated during the roughly 3,123 sunshine hours yearly. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish—applied to both sides of every panel and warranted 30 years against chalking—keeps the roof looking new without sealers, coatings, or repairs.
Will my house need structural reinforcement for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light: the Mediterranean Tile profile, despite looking like traditional clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. This means it installs over most existing roofs without any reinforcement to your frame or load-bearing walls. Opstead homeowners can replace failing asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or even existing tile with Interlock metal in the same installation window, often without removing the old roof. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, reissued 2025) certifies this profile's suitability for residential framing nationwide. You get the authentic appearance of high-end materials without the weight penalty or the construction headache and expense.
Does a metal roof help reduce cooling costs?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing attic temperature and cooling demand. In Opstead's climate averaging about 3,123 sunshine hours per year, reflective coatings prevent summer heat gain that asphalt roofs amplify. You won't see dramatic air-conditioning savings in Minnesota winters, but spring and fall cooling costs drop noticeably, and you avoid the radiant heat that stresses asphalt shingles and shortens their life. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating recognizes this energy benefit. Combined with the roof's longevity, energy-efficiency efficiency makes metal roofing an investment that lowers your utility costs over decades while reducing the carbon footprint of repeated tear-offs.
Is a metal roof really cheaper than asphalt over time?
Metal roofing is the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles in Opstead's 74 freeze-thaw cycles and 107 cm annual snowfall typically last 15–20 years, meaning you'll replace them 2–3 times in a 50-year period. Interlock's Guardian lifetime limited warranty—non-prorated for the original owner and transferable to the next owner for 50 years—eliminates that cycle. You avoid the labor, debris removal, and disruption of multiple tear-offs. Even accounting for higher upfront cost, the math favors metal when you factor in avoided replacement, 30-year coating warranty, minimal maintenance, and potential insurance discounts. The roof ends the asphalt-to-landfill cycle, so disposal costs vanish too. Over a typical homeownership span, metal roofing costs less and delivers more certainty.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing shingles?
Yes. Interlock's lightweight design means it installs directly over most existing asphalt, wood, or tile roofs without removal or structural work. A solid deck and underlayment are recommended for maximum performance and code compliance (ICC-ES ESR-1790), and your local Interlock installer—serving the region since 2001—will assess your roof and advise the best approach. Installing over an existing roof compresses your timeline and eliminates the labor, waste hauling, and site disruption of a full tear-off. In Opstead's climate with about 650 mm of rain and 107 cm of snow yearly, a dry, quick installation matters; you're protected from weather delays faster than a tear-off-and-replace project. Your installer will guide you through financing, warranty registration, and any local permit requirements, making the transition to a roof that lasts a lifetime straightforward.
