Review: August 20, 2024 Completion: August 13, 2024

From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!

Review: November 4, 2016 Completion: September 30, 2015

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.

Review: January 28, 2016 Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: May 21, 2012 Completion: June 30, 2007

Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Harbor

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Harbor, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Harbor.

How does a metal roof handle South Harbor's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Aluminum's slick surface naturally sheds snow and ice better than asphalt, which is critical when you're dealing with about 107 cm of snow annually and 74 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that wind gusts up to 108 km/h won't lift edges where ice can creep underneath. You can add snow guards to any profile if you want to control where snow slides off—that's your choice, not a structural necessity like it would be with lighter materials.

Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it doesn't absorb moisture, so the freeze-thaw damage that splits wood or cracks asphalt won't happen here. With 74 freeze-thaw days per year in South Harbor, this matters—your roof won't develop the stress fractures that plague traditional shingles. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) has been performing at Antarctic research stations; Minnesota's winter cycles are well within its design range.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a climate with this much rain and snow?

Steel rusts because iron oxidizes; aluminum cannot rust because it contains zero iron. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish adds 30 years of extra protection against salt, moisture, and UV. Even in climates with 650 mm of annual rainfall and high humidity, you're getting a material that stays structurally sound and doesn't weaken over decades the way steel does.

Are metal roofing panels strong enough for South Harbor's wind gusts?

Yes. The four-way interlocking system is engineered so that each panel locks to its neighbors in all four directions, distributing wind load across the entire assembly instead of letting individual panels catch and lift. The warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph, and South Harbor's typical gusts top out around 108 km/h (67 mph). When the panels are installed to specification on solid decking, they function as one unified system—gusts can't peel up an edge and propagate failure like they can with shingled roofs.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement needed. The Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft—astonishingly light. Compare that to a Mediterranean Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, which is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing roof framing is already designed for snow loads (you get about 107 cm annually in South Harbor), so aluminum metal roofing sits down on top of that capacity with room to spare. Many installations go right over existing asphalt without any modifications.

What's the hail impact rating, and can it help with insurance?

Interlock meets UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact classification available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurers offer discounts for Class 4 roofing—worth asking your agent. In Minnesota's thunderstorm corridor, hail can be costly; Class 4 means your roof won't crater from the kind of impact that would dent or puncture asphalt or compromise older metal panels. It's peace of mind backed by third-party testing.

Does an aluminum metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient colors reflect rather than absorb the sun's heat—up to 55% initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny profile) versus the dark absorption of asphalt. The thermal emissivity is 0.84, meaning you're shedding heat efficiently even on cooler days. With South Harbor averaging about 3,123 sunshine hours annually, summer heat gain adds up; reflective coatings reduce air-conditioning load noticeably. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings back this performance, so you're not paying for marketing—you're getting measured energy savings.

What's the actual warranty on an Interlock metal roof?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That one-time transfer is valuable for resale; it shows buyers the roof isn't just durable, but backed. Most homeowners install this once and never replace it; the warranty structure acknowledges that reality.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually require?

Far less than asphalt, wood, or concrete tile. No moss or algae growth on aluminum (unlike shingles in wet climates); no splitting or curling; no tar degradation from UV. You rinse gutters and debris after storms, just like any roof, but you're not replacing flashing every decade or patching soft spots. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. With 650 mm of annual rain, gutters matter for water management, but the roof itself isn't a recurring expense. That's the economics of choosing a material that doesn't age—it just looks like it did the day it went up.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life, and your roof will likely outlast three generations of asphalt shingles anyway. Traditional asphalt tear-offs end up in landfills; aluminum becomes new siding, gutters, or cans. Interlock has been manufactured in Delta, BC, since 1998—over 25 years of consistent production. You're also cutting out the asphalt replacement cycle (roughly every 20 years) with its associated tear-off waste and installation emissions. One roof, installed once, versus multiple replacements: the environmental math favors aluminum.
