What our customers are saying:
From the start to finish, we loved their work and communication. There were no nails, metal bits, or excessive noise. They listened to all questions and addressed our concerns. They were careful to make no promise of a start date that they could not fulfill. The rain this year made it hard to predict! I would do a commercial for them free to endorse their work and product!
Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!
To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />
Dear Peter, Thank you for your help with the installation and warranty transfer of our interlock roof. We have since sold our house and had good feedback about our roof from potential buyers. Neighbors loved our new roof and we had people drive by and actually snap pictures of it! You were right that the new roof would help sell our home! Thanks for all your help!
Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!
Dear Peter, We remain delighted with our new Interlock roof. It’s now been through 2 Minnesota winters, a hailstorm, and several rain deluges and is still the top-notch performer that you said it would be. Thank you for your and Interlock’s integrity throughout the sale, installation, and service of our roofing project. We remain convinced that Interlock is indeed “the Midwest’s Best Roof”.
Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.
Dear Peter, Installing the Interlock roof on our home has completely transformed and improved our home’s appearance. The installation of the roof along with the greatly improved flashings have made a great difference. Because of that, our stucco was able to match our home so we look like new. An improvement I didn’t expect was the change in temperature of our second floor. Usually unbearable " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot on a 90-degree day. It’s now 10-15 degree cooler and livable. We also received a sizeable discount on our homeowners’ insurance because of the roof’s resistance to fire. We’re sure that having to “Never roof again” will help us sell our house should that be necessary. Thank you from two satisfied customers.
My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.
I love my new roof. It looks great and I know the house is in better shape without the heavy deteriorating asphalt shingles. My house is the only one on the block with no snow on the roof, and I can't wait to hear it in the rain
We are delighted with the workmanship and quality of our new roof. It has exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend an Interlock Roof to anyone looking to replace an old roof.
Dear Interlock Roofing, We are writing to share with you our experience with you, your employees, and the new roof. We built a brand new home and moved in January 1997. Within a few years, we were experiencing shingles that were curling and being removed by the wind. By the summer of 2007, it was imperative that we re-roof our home. Fortunately, we saw an ad in the local paper for your product. Below are just a few of the benefits we appreciate with the aluminum interlocking roofing shingles: The service and attention to our roofing project by Scott Bohnen from signing the contract to follow-up after the installation. The fact that the workforce followed safety procedures by wearing safety gear (we have a steep roof). Daily attention to our project until it was completed, about one week in total. Aesthetically pleasing roof, with numerous comments by friends and neighbors and those just passing by. EXCELLENT CURB APPEAL! The roof is quieter during rain storms than with regular asphalt shingles. We often have to verify that it is raining by visually looking or going outside. The roof reflects light so that we have experienced reduced air conditioning costs in the summer. In the winter, the heating bill is reduced as well and that may be in part to the aluminum shingle along with the polypropylene lining between the old and new shingles. No matter the reason, our heating and cooling bills are reduced. The fact that the roof is aluminum and it can be recycled at the end of its life expectancy. The 50-year, one time transferable, warranty. We could go on and on but we are very pleased with our roof and thankful that we will never have to re-roof again. Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hayland
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hayland, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hayland.
How does metal roofing handle Hayland's 107 cm of annual snow?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface offers less friction than asphalt, and the system's design prevents ice dams from forming at the eave. With about 74 freeze-thaw cycles per year in Mille Lacs County, the real risk is thermal cycling damage to brittle materials—aluminum flexes with temperature swings without cracking or curling. Snow guards are available if you want to control slide-off, but the roof itself won't be weakened by freeze-thaw stress. The panels weigh only 0.41 lb/sq ft (Shingle profile), so accumulated snow loads won't stress your structure the way 600+ lb concrete tile would.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust in Minnesota winters?
Aluminum physically cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a protective aluminum oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Minnesota's roughly 650 mm of annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycling can't trigger rust. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts from the inside out once the coating is breached. With salt-air homes in coastal British Columbia performing reliably since 1998, Minnesota's weather poses no corrosion risk.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Mille Lacs County damage my metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum's crystalline structure actually tolerates repeated freezing and thawing better than asphalt, wood, or ceramic. With approximately 74 freeze-thaw days annually, most materials experience micro-fracturing that compounds into visible damage—but aluminum expands and contracts elastically without splitting or curling. Asphalt shingles, by comparison, become brittle in cold and crack as temperatures cycle between below 0°C at night and above freezing during the 3,123 annual sunshine hours. The Alunar coating remains flexible across temperature swings. ESR-1790 compliance confirms the system's durability in freeze-thaw climates. No additional structural prep is needed; the roof works as designed.
Can a metal roof survive Hayland's wind gusts and storms?
Yes. Hayland experiences typical daily-max winds around 21 km/h with gusts reaching 108 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire panel assembly rather than concentrating stress at fastener points, which is why standing-seam and shingle profiles both perform identically in high-wind testing. UL and ICC-ES (ESR-1790) validate this performance. Unlike traditional shingles, which can lift and fail individually, Interlock's system acts as one unified surface. Installation to spec means proper fastening into the framing—your installer since 2001 knows exactly how to secure the system for Minnesota conditions.
Does Hayland get enough hail to matter, and will metal roofing help with insurance?
Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the panels withstand repeated drops of 2-inch steel balls from 20 feet without cracking or losing impact resistance. This rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage because claims for hail damage are virtually eliminated. Minnesota hail events are less frequent than in the Great Plains, but when they occur, aluminum's uniform hardness and lack of brittleness mean no cracking, no missing sections, and no emergency repairs. Ask your insurer about premium reductions—many carriers recognize UL 2218 Class 4 as a risk reducer.
Can an aluminum roof reduce cooling costs in Minnesota?
Yes, particularly during the roughly 3,123 annual sunshine hours. Interlock offers energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), which means the roof reflects heat that dark asphalt absorbs and converts to indoor warmth. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy performance. In Minnesota's temperate climate with mean temperature around 6.5°C, a reflective roof won't drive winter heating bills higher because the roof already performs below snow cover for much of the heating season. Spring through fall, the reflectivity reduces cooling load. Over the 50-year lifespan, the cumulative energy savings offset the modest upfront premium compared to asphalt—without degradation of the coating's reflectance.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Shake profile weighs approximately 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile (which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile) weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the real thing. Most existing roofs can support this load without modification because it's comparable to asphalt shingles. Heavy slate, clay, or concrete tile typically requires structural engineering and sometimes beam reinforcement; Interlock eliminates that cost and complexity. The lightweight aluminum profile means you can often install directly over an existing roof, reducing labor and disposal expenses. Minnesota's approximately 107 cm of annual snow adds weight, but the panels' light baseline ensures total snow load stays well within standard framing capacity.
How long does installation take, and can metal roofing go over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof complexity and weather, but a typical residential roof takes 2-5 days with an experienced crew. One major advantage: Interlock installs over most existing asphalt shingles without tear-off, provided the substrate is sound and properly fastened. This approach saves disposal fees, reduces labor cost, and minimizes disruption. Your local installer, serving the region since 2001, will inspect the deck and recommend tear-off only if necessary—common in older homes where reroofing has occurred multiple times. The four-way interlocking panel system requires precise alignment and proper fastening into rafters, which is why professional installation through an ICC-ESR-1790-compliant installer matters. Minnesota's weather window is typically May through September; plan accordingly.
Is aluminum roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt?
Significantly. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and because Interlock panels last 50+ years, they eliminate the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that occurs every 15-25 years. A typical Minnesota home sheds roughly 650 mm of rain annually, yet generates no runoff contamination from asphalt degradation or granule loss. Recycled aluminum also requires only 5% of the energy needed to produce virgin aluminum, so the material's environmental profile improves with each generation. The Guardian Warranty's 50-year transferable term (original owner lifetime plus next owner's 50 years) means the roof stays in service rather than being replaced prematurely. Over 100+ years of service life, one Interlock installation prevents multiple asphalt roofs from entering landfills.
What's the actual warranty on a metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell?
The Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—and it transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion. That means a roof installed in 2024 carries guardian protection through 2074 for buyer two, which typically covers two full ownership cycles. Non-prorated means you're not stuck with a depreciating claim value; a defect in year 40 is treated identically to one in year 5. The Alunar coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM standards. No other roofing material—asphalt, wood, concrete tile—offers transferable protection for this duration, making it a genuine selling point for resale value in Hayland.
