Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Hoskins, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should. The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time. After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.
Our 18 year house needed something. A local roofer suggested a$ 5 K, roof treatment with yearly treatment of $1000. And a roof replacement with shingles at 60K. We looked into Interlock. I was impressed with the product and the absence of middlemen between installation. And quality if the product. The investment was significantly higher but we were impressed and felt it would be the best choice. The crew was polite and professional. They cleaned up every day as promised As you can see from the picture the roof is beautiful Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Service: Roof installation
I love my Interlock Metal Roof! It makes my whole house look more beautiful. I was so impressed by how quickly and efficiently the roof was installed. It will be a while before I retire, but when I do I want to spend my time and money on travel and other fun things. I am so glad I never have to worry about re-roofing then or ever again! Not only that, but my roof will be just as beautiful then as it is now. If you are thinking about re-roofing, give Interlock a look.
As a retired civil engineer I bought the roof for seismic purposes. The existing asphalt roof weighed over nine thousand pounds (8 1/2 tons). This one weighs about 800. That's like taking two full sized pickup trucks off the top of your house. The interesting part has been temperature. The aluminum dropped the summer temperatures in the house dramatically. The attic cools very quickly after the sun drops. Yes, even in black. Aluminum, regardless of he color does not store heat. This is not only a beautiful roof but it was very nicely installed by two guys that really cared about what they were doing.

From the ordering process that began in January to the actual installation of the roof in November, the communication could have been better. The charcoal gray "slate" roof was installed a few days ago, and we just had a tremendous rain storm; the roof did amazing. The workers who showed up were fast and professional and finished the job in 3 days. After they were done, they did a thorough site cleaning. The roof was definitely more costly than a conventional shingle roof and took some extra effort and delay to get scheduled, but we believe it was well worth it.
INCREDIBLE experience from start to finish. From the moment we met with Damon and Mike, through the contract and purchase process, into scheduling and installation - we have had an amazing experience. The product and service are ABSOLUTELY worth the investment. We LOVE our new roof and give Interlocking Roof our highest recommendation. Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hoskins
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hoskins, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hoskins.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow and ice in Hoskins winters?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because its smooth, hard surface prevents moisture from bonding. Hoskins gets about 46 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 31 freeze-thaw cycles each year—conditions that accelerate ice dam formation on traditional roofs. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels, warranted to 120 mph winds, stay structurally sound through these freeze-thaw swings because aluminum expands and contracts predictably without the cracking or curling that plagues asphalt and wood. Snow guards are available if you need them for safety, but the roof itself won't trap water or deteriorate from seasonal moisture cycles.
Why doesn't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum develops an oxide layer when exposed to air, and this layer actually self-heals when scratched or damaged, protecting the metal underneath. In Hoskins, with 1517 mm of annual rainfall and wet winters, this is a genuine advantage. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every Interlock panel adds 30 years of warranty protection against chalking and fading, giving you a double defense against moisture. After 25 years, an aluminum roof in the Pacific Northwest will look far better than steel roofing exposed to the same rain and salt-air drift.
Will a metal roof blow off in Hoskins wind and storms?
No—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to lock together and resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Hoskins' typical gust patterns of 115 km/h (71 mph). The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically fastened to the next, so wind has nowhere to pry an edge. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 documents this performance across the International Building Code and IRC standards. When properly installed to spec by a certified crew, the roof acts as a unified system rather than individual shingles that can lift and separate. You get both the warranty assurance and the physical certainty that comes from engineered metal-to-metal connection.
Does a metal roof stand up to hail, and can I save on insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Hoskins averages about 3029 sunshine hours per year, so hail is less frequent here than in some regions, but when it does occur, aluminum's hardness and flexibility absorb impact without permanent deformation the way asphalt deteriorates. Many insurance carriers recognize Class 4 ratings and offer premium reductions on impact-resistant roofing. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification to discuss your specific policy; some offer 10-15% discounts. The combination of impact resistance, durability, and potential insurance savings makes the roof's cost competitive over its lifetime.
Can my house's framing handle a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce it?
Almost certainly not—Interlock aluminum roofing is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the appearance of heavy clay or concrete tile, installs at roughly 0.59 lb per square foot—about 96% lighter than the real thing. This means no structural reinforcement is needed on most homes, and the roof can typically install directly over your existing asphalt shingles. Hoskins' homes won't experience the compressive loads or settling problems that genuine tile creates. This lightweight advantage also reduces long-term strain on rafters and walls, extends the life of your house structure, and eliminates tens of thousands of dollars in potential reinforcement costs. It's one of the rare upgrades that actually makes your building more durable without expensive carpentry.
Does heavy rain leak through a metal roof?
No. Interlock panels' four-way interlocking design creates a continuous, sealed surface that sheds water before it can collect. Hoskins receives about 1517 mm of rain annually—solid rainfall, but the metal roof's hard surface and slight slope mean water runs off immediately rather than pooling. The panels lock tightly to each other and fasten to a solid deck with underlayment, just like asphalt shingles, so water penetration isn't a concern. The Guardian warranty covers leaking due to material or workmanship defects for the original owner's lifetime, transferable for 50 years. When installed to spec, a metal roof actually outperforms asphalt in heavy rain because the metal surface never softens, breaks down, or develops the micro-cracks where water sneaks under granules.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Metal roofing requires no patching, sealing, or granule replacement—you simply rinse debris off occasionally and inspect flashing after storms. Hoskins' 31 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 46 cm of snow won't cause the splitting, curling, or rot that plague traditional materials. Asphalt roofs typically need re-sealing every 5-7 years, while Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading without maintenance. Wood shakes split and warp; tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles; aluminum just keeps working. The CALGreen certification documents reduced maintenance requirements compared to conventional roofing. Over a 50-year roof life, you'll spend almost nothing on upkeep—that's real savings buried in the fine print of every other roofing system.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
The upfront cost is higher than asphalt, but metal roofing is genuinely the last roof you'll buy. Compare total cost over the roof's lifespan: asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15-25 years, plus re-sealing, patching, and seasonal maintenance. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a transferable 50-year term for the next owner—eliminating replacement cycles. Factor in 3029 hours of annual sunshine in Hoskins and the energy-efficient reflective coatings that reduce cooling loads, plus the 10% installation discount or no-interest financing until Spring 2027 currently available, and the math shifts. A roof installed now will outlive your mortgage; asphalt will outlive neither. When you total maintenance, replacement, and energy costs over 40-50 years, aluminum is cheaper than the alternatives.
How long does a metal roof actually last, and what's covered?
Interlock metal roofing is designed for multi-generational service. The Guardian warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no degradation over time. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of protection from completion. Real-world installations from Interlock's 25-year manufacturing history (since 1998) show roofs performing after 20+ years in harsh Pacific Northwest conditions with 1517 mm annual rain and 115 km/h gusts. Asphalt roofs last 15-25 years; metal roofing typically serves 40-50 years or more. The warranty structure reflects the manufacturer's confidence and protects both your investment and future resale value.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timelines vary with roof size and complexity, but most residential jobs complete in 3-7 days. Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt shingles on most homes because the aluminum panels are so light—roughly 0.41 lb per square foot for the Shingle profile—that no tear-off is necessary. This saves labor, disposal costs, and keeps roofing debris out of your property. Your existing roof becomes additional insulation and underlayment. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and handles the process efficiently. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 documents installation standards for both new construction and re-roofing over existing materials. Your local installer will walk you through the timeline and answer questions specific to your home's framing and current roof condition.
