Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Mountaindale, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!
Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mountaindale
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mountaindale, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mountaindale.
How does a metal roof handle Mountaindale's annual snowfall and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice effectively because the smooth surface prevents adhesion and the lightweight design—Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—requires no structural reinforcement even under Mountaindale's typical 112 cm annual snow load. The sloped profile promotes drainage, and optional snow guards can be installed to manage roof-edge release. With about 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year in this region, aluminum's oxide layer doesn't degrade like asphalt in repeated wet-freeze conditions; it self-heals when micro-scratched by ice movement.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage my metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, and it has no internal moisture retention that causes cracking or splitting under Mountaindale's roughly 83 annual freeze-thaw days. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against chalking—protects the metal from oxidation stress. Because aluminum cannot rust or rot, the cycling stresses that damage traditional materials simply do not apply; the material is rated for decades in coastal and freeze-thaw climates.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in Rhode Island's humid coastal climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a natural advantage in Mountaindale's humid environment with 1065 mm annual rainfall. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy meets ASTM B209, and the Alunar fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of each panel (extra protection against salt air and moisture). This dual-layer defense explains why Interlock installations range from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which aesthetically replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the material it mimics. This extraordinary lightness means Interlock installs over most existing roofs without costly structural upgrades. Mountaindale homeowners can retrofit older homes or add the roof to new construction without engineering modifications, making metal roofing accessible to nearly any property.
How does a metal roof handle Mountaindale's annual rainfall and heavy rain events?
The four-way interlocking panels create a sealed system where water cannot penetrate the seams; rainfall flows directly down the profile to gutters and drainage. With Mountaindale receiving about 1065 mm of rain per year, the overlapping design handles high-volume drainage far more effectively than individual shingles, which can trap water at seams. When installed to spec over a solid deck with underlayment (per ICC-ES ESR-1790), an Interlock roof performs identically to asphalt in leak prevention but without the deterioration that standing water causes to traditional materials.
Can a metal roof withstand Mountaindale's winter wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking design is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, and Mountaindale's typical wind gusts reach about 105 km/h (65 mph). The panels lock together mechanically, so wind cannot lift or separate them the way it can curl asphalt shingles. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on adhesive or nails alone, making this roofing especially reliable in the variable Atlantic gust patterns common to Newport County.
Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-prorated, lifetime limited warranty for the original owner means you're covered for impact-related damage. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions qualify for insurance discounts because metal roofing's durability reduces claims risk. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore available discounts.
How much can a metal roof reduce my cooling and heating costs?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reduce the heat absorbed by your home compared to standard asphalt shingles. Mountaindale receives about 2924 annual sunshine hours, and reflective coatings deflect much of that solar gain, lowering cooling costs year-round and reducing peak demand in summer. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms measurable energy performance. Lower heat absorption also means reduced thermal stress on the roofing material during the frequent temperature swings typical of your region's 83 annual freeze-thaw cycles.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will this roof really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is transferable once, providing the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion—a significant resale advantage. Interlock has manufactured roofing since 1998 and installed systems in climates ranging from coastal to Antarctic, demonstrating real-world longevity. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading, this roof is designed to outlast multiple generations of asphalt.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, while asphalt shingles are torn off and landfilled every 15–20 years, perpetuating waste. Interlock's lightweight design also reduces transportation emissions and installation labor compared to slate or clay tile. Over a 50-year lifespan, choosing metal eliminates the cycle of multiple tear-offs and landfill disposal, making it the genuinely sustainable choice for Mountaindale homeowners concerned about long-term environmental impact. Recycled content and end-of-life recyclability align with CALGreen sustainability standards.
