Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Naushon, Rhode Island
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Well, I stand corrected. First I want to apologize for the tone of my last email. I was anticipating a high pressure sales pitch, and dealing with some health issues at present, I was in no mood to deal with being pressured to buy something. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with Michael. Although he presented a good argument of why and how Interlock was a good roof product, at no time did my wife or I feel pressured into buying your product. Also, as I've been burned a couple of times in the past, I made it a personal rule that I NEVER sign a contract on first meeting. As you can see, apparently I broke my own rule in this case, as my wife and I had already researched other roof products and it appeared that Interlock was a reputable company with many favorable reviews. Also, much of our opinion was based in no small measure in the way Michael Baldassari presented himself, the company, and the product. Having said this, we look forward with anticipation to showing off our new roof and are hopeful that others in our neighborhood will appreciated the beauty and benefits of an Interlock all metal roof as well.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Naushon
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Naushon, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Naushon.
Will a metal roof hold up to Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually improves in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no pores to trap water and crack. Your area experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, where asphalt and slate both degrade as water expands in their material. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) has zero water absorption, so it won't split or blister. The four-way interlocking panels also shed ice and snow efficiently, reducing the stress cycles that damage traditional materials over decades.
How does Interlock metal roofing handle heavy Naushon snow loads?
Metal roofing sheds snow far more effectively than asphalt because of its smooth, hard surface and predictable panel seams. Naushon receives about 76 cm of snow annually, and the Interlock Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft—so accumulated snow load is genuinely managed by the home's existing structure with no reinforcement needed. Snow guards can be added if you want controlled shedding. The metal's slickness, combined with lightweight design, prevents the ice dam formation that traps water under shingles and causes leaks in freeze-thaw climates like yours.
Why can't aluminum roofing rust, and does that matter near the coast?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxidation. Instead, aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, creating a permanent barrier. Near coastal salt air, this is decisive: steel would need constant maintenance, but Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides of every panel) extends durability even further. The 30-year coating warranty covers chalking and fading under salt-air exposure, and the lifetime limited material warranty covers corrosion. Your 1,200 mm annual rainfall carries salt and minerals that attack traditional materials; aluminum simply doesn't.
Can Interlock roofing survive Rhode Island's coastal wind gusts?
The four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Naushon's typical gust patterns of about 118 km/h (73 mph). Interlocking mechanics lock each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, creating a unified structure that distributes wind loads across the entire roof rather than relying on individual fastener strength. Kent County sees regular gusts that would stress traditional shingles; aluminum's rigidity and the mechanical interlock make uplift nearly impossible. This design is proven from Antarctic stations to hurricane-zone installations.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt in the long run?
A metal roof costs more upfront but is genuinely the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires multiple replacements, tear-offs, and landfill disposal over 50 years. Interlock's lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty covers the original owner indefinitely—no degradation allowance—and transfers once to the next owner for 50 years, protecting your home and resale value. Over five decades, eliminating two or three costly tear-off cycles, structural repair from leaks, and ice-dam damage recovery more than offsets the initial investment. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates authentic tile weight, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and can go over most existing roofs. Even the heavier Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to traditional materials. This lightweight design means you avoid the $5,000–$15,000 structural reinforcement costs that tile or slate often demand. Naushon homes built for standard asphalt loads will carry a metal roof without modification, and you can often install directly over your existing shingles, eliminating tear-off costs and waste.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof really require?
Minimal. Unlike asphalt that degrades in UV light, wood that splits and curls, or tile that cracks, aluminum oxide doesn't break down. No yearly inspections, no algae treatment, no missing shingle replacement. The Alunar coating is rated CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. With about 3,050 sunshine hours and 1,198 mm of rain per year in Naushon, your roof faces significant UV and moisture exposure; asphalt would require re-coating or replacement within 15 years, while Interlock's 30-year coating warranty and self-healing oxide layer mean decades of passive durability. Occasional gutter cleaning is all you'll do.
Is Interlock metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles end the tear-off-and-landfill cycle every 15–20 years. Over the same 50-year period, a home with asphalt will generate two or three roofing landfill loads; Interlock generates one recyclable aluminum roof. Manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, Interlock's production process is scaled for efficiency. Combined with the fact that you'll never replace this roof, you eliminate the embodied carbon of multiple manufacturing cycles and transportation events that asphalt demands. For environmentally conscious Naushon homeowners, a single permanent roof beats repeated consumption.
Does Interlock have local installation service in Naushon?
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and is your local installer for Naushon and Kent County. Installing a metal roof requires precision—four-way interlocking panels must be seated and sealed correctly to achieve the wind warranty and water-tightness your coastal climate demands. A local, experienced crew ensures proper flashing, panel alignment, and fastening to meet ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance and the Guardian Warranty terms. Working with the manufacturer's regional partner means direct accountability, faster service response, and familiarity with New England's specific freeze-thaw and salt-air conditions.
Can I reduce cooling costs with a reflective metal roof?
energy-efficient color options reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, cutting cooling demand on sunny days. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), and they're rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. With about 3,050 annual sunshine hours in Naushon, those reflective properties compound year-round. While New England's winters are cold, the summer benefit is measurable, and reflective roofing reduces peak demand on the grid. Choose an energy-efficiency color, and you lower your summer electricity costs while protecting your roof from the UV degradation that costs asphalt homeowners thousands in repairs and replacements over time.
