None that I can think of. I'm so excited to see how the new roof handles heavy snow and storms. So far the skies haven't given me the chance, but I'm looking forward to a Big Storm for the first time in years.

Review: November 12, 2003Completion: November 12, 2003

We just had the completion of our new roof. We are happy at how professional the job looks, and how the Interlock material gives the house a different look. It's a very good looking rich roof, we love the way the aluminum pieces interlock each other and make the house look so different than the other roofs. Many of the neighbors have stopped to look at the roof all are impressed how good and nice it looks. The workers were professional, hard workers and fast, and they cleaned up every night. We are very happy and pleased with the decision we made. Finally we do not have to worry about the roof any more.

Review: September 5, 2015Completion: August 24, 2015

First of all. On the day of delivery" 8/15/2015, "I called Jeniffer and she told me the delivery truck was on its way. There was no previous notice of delivery. What if I was not home? Or had something to do of importance. This was not considered. Second of all Michael B. spent to much time in my garage inspecting. My brush to my heavy vacuum, went missing. I noticed it immediately after he left. As far as your workers, some smoke to much and where not efficient enough and worked very slow. They took more breaks than work. No one spoke English except one person who was suppose to be in charge. And while the stripping was being done the leader kept leaving and left for hours and the workers were not prepared properly. After two days of stripping my plants where not protected as promised. I yelled at one worker for carelessness. Every morning I was promised they would start work at 7am. They never ever showed up until 11:30am everyday after; except the last day which was day 5. And instead of 7am as promised it was 7:45am. They milked my whole weekend. They started on a Thursday and ended after noon" on Monday. I never got the paperwork for the dumpster which had no permit to be on the street. It would never had fit in my driveway. Michael B. knew this. This is why they chose to work on the weekend so they would not have to pay for the dumpster permit. I had to go and by traffic cone and caution tap to mark off the dumpster and protect my property from traffic. Also the objects used to brake up snow fall were promised on both sides of the main roof. However when the leader came to me and said they where not ordered he only had enough for one side of the house. And that the material that was ordered and not used or not here", would be deducted from the original price. When the material was delivered it was placed inside my garage I did not get a manifest of what was actually purchased. My gutter hangers were re bought because of the mis-care of dismantling and new hooks had to be purchased. They were just snapped off. That did not please me. I did feed them the last day of work to show my kindness. However part of my gardening tools went missing. The clean up looked ok, but after a day of getting my house back I did a clear inspection and found cigarette butts all over the place and nails. They should have been vacuumed up. This was a ruff 5days for such a small project. There promptness to time and duty showed no respect to me as the owner of said property. There was very little communication because it did not make sense to talk to the workers because no one spoke English. What a nightmare. By day 4 I wanted them gone. But I could not interact because my roof's would not have gotten done or finished. One noticeable thing was when they called and said there tire's had gotten slashed and they would be late. On that same day after the repair, the leader went out to Home Depot, 3 miles away and he got another flat and came back after 6pm. Leaving inexperienced workers just standing around smoking cigarettes, lying down on the roof waiting. My neighbors came over to my home and even called me on the phone wondering why or what was wrong. This was not a good day. This set me a day back. I was not happy. No communication and not happy. What a lazy crew. After they left I sent jeniffer a good report and photo's. When I went to get my gardening tool" and found it was missing, all gloves came off and the real truth came out which is now. I was willing to forget and forgive. But sense you asked for this survey, you are getting the truth and "I WILL STAND BY THIS STATEMENT". LIKE OR NOT. And after I sent Jeniffer that invoice for the items purchased by fax (508-660-6918) and phone call 508-660-6665; all I get is CANADA answering service. And no email from [email protected]. I have left messages with InterLock Inc. for Jeniffer with no response. I get very angry when I get no response from a company that I am spending thousands of US Dollars with and they just fall off the grid", because the billing and workers are not connected. It feels almost like a scam. There are still missing pieces to my gutter hangups. All of the hangups were present when they started but not when they finished. And the snow breakup material for the "Main Roof" are only on one side. Yet I paid for all the materials for the whole completion and got only half. I know I signed off on this project. However you have material at my cost that does not belong to you and no material list of deduction paid for and "not received. I trusted you. And you are asking me for a referral? I don't think so. It's only been 8 days since you left. And it took me eight days to do my final inspection of the truth. I left them on there own to lockup after cleaning up. I had to leave on a important matter. It has not rained yet, so I do not know if there will be any leaks. Its a shame when you have only "one person with total experience and the rest have to wait to be told what to do. That's why it took five days to complete the roof's work. What a shame. And what a nightmare for the owner'; "me. I ate the steak. So I have to pay for it. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT REFER ANYONE TO DINE OR EAT AT YOUR TABLE. The garage and home looks good. We'll just wait for the weather to see how well your material and work hold.If there is a problem", YOU WILL BE CALLED. And if there is no proper response, you will get a call for my State Of Rhode Island Governor's Office to your State Governor's Office and State Legislators and State Representatives as non- cooperative, out of state out of country business.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Rumford

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Rumford, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Rumford.

Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but its molecular structure resists the cracking and splitting that trap moisture in asphalt or wood. Rumford experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days annually, and aluminum's non-porous oxide layer prevents water infiltration at the source. The Guardian warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling, so freeze damage is protected for the lifetime of your ownership.

How does a metal roof perform under Rumford's snow load?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently due to their smooth surface and low friction. Rumford receives roughly 76 centimeters of snow per year; the lightweight Interlock panels at 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft impose virtually no added structural burden, whereas a comparable slate or tile roof would require expensive roof reinforcement. Optional snow guards prevent sudden avalanche-style slides if desired. The four-way interlocking seams are warrantied to 120 mph wind gusts—well above Rumford's typical 118 km/h peak gusts—so winter storms pose no fastening risk.

Why can't aluminum roofing rust?

Aluminum contains no iron, the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath; when scratched, this layer reforms automatically. Steel roofing, by contrast, rusts at cut edges and fasteners. With Rumford's 1198 mm annual rainfall and coastal salt-air exposure nearby, this distinction matters: the 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon coating applied to both panel sides adds a second line of defense against corrosion, ensuring durability through decades of wet weather.

Are four-way interlocking panels truly watertight in heavy rain?

Yes. The four-way mechanical interlock—top, bottom, and both sides—creates a labyrinth that sheds water downslope faster than it can penetrate. Rumford's average 1198 mm rain annually is handled by the overlapping lap design combined with solid deck installation and underlayment, which work together to match asphalt-level leak protection. The Guardian warranty covers water infiltration, and ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IRC rain and wind requirements.

What hail protection does metal roofing offer, and will it lower my insurance?

Interlock panels carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4 rated roofs because claims are rare. Check your policy; some carriers reduce premiums by 10–20% for impact-rated metal. In Rumford's storm-prone maritime climate, this durability and the potential premium savings stack into significant long-term value, while asphalt shingles degrade and become ineligible for hail claims after a few years.

Can a metal roof withstand Rumford's winter and storm gusts?

The four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Rumford's typical peak gusts reach 118 km/h, placing the roof well within safe margins. The mechanical interlock—not fasteners alone—distributes wind load across the entire system. In a region where autumn nor'easters and winter gales are routine, this warranty gives you certainty that your roof will not lift, separate, or fail at the seams.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost?

An asphalt roof costs less upfront but requires replacement every 15–25 years; over 50 years, you'll buy 2–3 asphalt roofs and dispose of thousands of pounds of shingles into landfills. Interlock's Guardian lifetime warranty (50 years transferable) eliminates replacement cycles, and the non-prorated coverage means no depreciation deductible. When you factor in avoided tear-off costs, disposal, installation labor, and the resale premium metal commands in Rumford's competitive market, the total cost of ownership favors metal by a substantial margin—this is the last roof you buy.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal shingles?

No. The Interlock Slate and Shingle profiles install at just 0.41 lb/sq ft; the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes' existing roof framing easily supports this load. Traditional slate or tile would require costly structural upgrades; aluminum eliminates that expense and allows installation directly over your existing roof, saving labor and disposal costs. The lightweight design is one reason Interlock has been installed on Antarctic research stations and coastal homes worldwide since 1998.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Rumford?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. serves Rumford and the region and has been installing in New England since 1999. The local team understands the specific challenges of Rhode Island's climate—salt air, heavy rain (1198 mm annually), and about 83 freeze-thaw cycles per year—and ensures proper installation to ESR-1790 standards. Currently, they're offering no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, making this an ideal time to upgrade before winter weather intensifies.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, whereas asphalt shingles are landfilled—replacing your roof every 20 years contributes thousands of pounds to waste streams. Metal roofs last 50+ years transferably, eliminating the tear-off cycle entirely. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 per ASTM B209) comes from recycled content and returns to the recycling stream when eventually replaced, closing the loop. For Rumford residents committed to reducing environmental impact, metal roofing ends the asphalt-to-landfill pattern and aligns with CALGreen sustainability standards.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Rumford’s climate?

Yes. Rumford averages about 76 cm of snow, 1198 mm of rain, roughly 83 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 118 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
