Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness My husband and I purchased a home with an existing Interlock roof from his parents this past year. The roof has been fine, we have no issues. However, we are looking to add an addition to our home and because interlock requires their staff to perform all work on the roof because of the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty we contacted them regarding this. My husband has attempted to reach Interlock for the past 1-2 months with out any call back from anyone. He just keeps getting the front desk secretary that answers the phone and takes the message. He has even requested to speak with the supervisor of the Sharon branch, but again with no call back. I have never experienced such a terrible customer service experience from a company. I do not recommend pursuing a metal roof with Interlock for the fear that if you had a problem with your roof, you may not get in touch with anyone to repair it. If you do proceed with Interlock, prepare yourself to have to call them multiple times per day every day. Update: I received a call back from Interlock today after receiving my google review. Thankfully, they have begun to work on my outstanding issue. Service: Roof installation

Well, I stand corrected. First I want to apologize for the tone of my last email. I was anticipating a high pressure sales pitch, and dealing with some health issues at present, I was in no mood to deal with being pressured to buy something. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with Michael. Although he presented a good argument of why and how Interlock was a good roof product, at no time did my wife or I feel pressured into buying your product. Also, as I've been burned a couple of times in the past, I made it a personal rule that I NEVER sign a contract on first meeting. As you can see, apparently I broke my own rule in this case, as my wife and I had already researched other roof products and it appeared that Interlock was a reputable company with many favorable reviews. Also, much of our opinion was based in no small measure in the way Michael Baldassari presented himself, the company, and the product. Having said this, we look forward with anticipation to showing off our new roof and are hopeful that others in our neighborhood will appreciated the beauty and benefits of an Interlock all metal roof as well.

Review: November 15, 2016 Completion: August 30, 2016

I first found out about Interlock metal roofs when I visited one of our customer's homes and noticed the gorgeous roof...I asked her who installed it for her and she told me it was a metal roof by Interlock. The roof on my house was in very bad shape and I was shopping for a new roof and I put Interlock at the top of my list. Upon doing some research, I realized that an Interlock roof was going to cost me quite a bit more than a conventional shingled roof and I was bummed that it may be out of my budget, so I got several quotes on conventional shingles before I finally decided to contact Interlock and get an accurate quote. From the first contact with the Interlock sales rep, Jeff Smith, I could tell that Interlock was a company that operated at a far higher level than any other home improvement companies I have come in contact with...Jeff was extremely knowledgeable, personable, and prepared! He conducted himself in a professional manner and took the time to ask lots of questions about my goals for the house and roof, he took accurate measurements so he could provide me with an accurate quote and while he was preparing his quote (on the spot), he had me watch an informational video on his iPad that outlined all of the benefits of an Interlock roof (Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc.). By the end of the video, I was 100% convinced that the product is amazing and I knew it was the roof I wanted...but, I was still nervous that it would be waaayyy out of my budget. I told Jeff of my concerns and he presented me with the quote....which, as I suspected, was almost 2.5 times more than a conventional shingle roof. Once I got over my initial sticker shock, I thought about all the value that I would be getting...Lifetime Warranty, hail resistant, wind resistant, Energy efficient, snow slides off, etc., etc. and the decision became much easier...then, to make it even easier, Interlock offered me great financing which fit my budget perfectly! How could I say no? The roof was installed about 2 months ago and it looks AWESOME!! I am very happy with the decision to spend the extra money for a high quality product and I've already recommended Interlock to multiple people...including my brother who is an architect for high-end homes and he was so impressed with the quality that he's been recommending Interlock roofs to his clients!

Review: May 16, 2016 Completion: August 18, 2021

It has been a year since I had my Interlock roof installed and I have meant to write this letter. I am glad I waited because I discovered additional advantages to the roof system by Interlock. I initially was impressed by the planning. Mr. Baldassari explained the roof, brought samples, how it would be installed on my house and interface with existing gutters. He also provided local addresses of Interlock roofs that I could view which was very helpful. During the planning process, he recommended changes I may not have thought of but would eliminate future costs and problems. In my case, he recommended the replacement of several failing skylights which I would purchase but be installed at no charge. The job went smoothly. The crew showed up early and stayed late, answered all my questions, leaving a clean, organized job site at the end of each day. The attention to detail was impressive. The house was a complex roof with several skylights, vents, and a masonry chimney. There was also a large barn and outbuilding, Demetri, one of the crew, reinstalled a large weathervane on the barn assuring me if he installed it, it would never come off. I was happy with the roof install. Since the installation, I have found additional benefits. Because my roof had not failed completely the Interlock roof was able to be installed over the existing roof eliminating the cost of strip off and keeping all the asphalt shingles out of the landfill. I also reduced my insurance risk; one of the considerations was the high wind rating. I live in a hurricane high wind zone for insurance coverage. The deductible was about equal to a new asphalt roof if I put a new conventional roof on replacement cost is not covered, and they prorate it and give you even less as the roof ages, so you basically have no roof insurance. I feel I do not have that problem now with the Interlock roof due to the high wind rating and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have just retired, and this gives me a great peace of mind, a lifetime durable roof. I also lowered my insurance cost as now all buildings have a class “A” fire rating on the roof. The roof qualified for federal energy credits and meets “Energy Star” ratings, so I saved money on taxes. My energy costs are lower; the roof reflects summer heat keeping the attic cooler reducing air conditioning costs. My attic is vented to outside and uninsulated, so there is no advantage to heating. This roof also eliminates " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams due to its design, and while many homes had ice dams and water damage to the interior of the house last winter, I had no formation of ice dams and no damage at all, an unexpected bonus. I do not notice any noise from rain or weather an initial concern I had. I live on a busy street and have people stop to compliment on the roof (aged " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper) and get information which I am happy to give. I have a more beautiful home, peace of mind, and will never have to re-roof.

Review: August 12, 2012 Completion: June 24, 2013

Dear Interlock: It has been a couple of months since the installation of my Interlock roof was completed, and two neighborhood endorsements have been forthcoming in that period. First, neighbors have commented about how good it looks, and second, they have commented on the daily cleanup done by the installation crew. I heartily endorse my neighbors’ comments. The cleanup factor really became evident shortly after when a conventional shingle roof was installed a few houses away by a local contractor. Materials were staged in front of the house rather than out of sight in the rear, and the place looked like a mess until the job was completed. As you are aware, the design of my house coupled with the prior construction of an addition across the length of the rear presented unusual challenges. While aluminum shingles could be used on the front, the slope of the back required an installation of Interlock’s membrane roof product. Further complicating the matter was a double roof in the rear with no ventilation of the void between the two roofs. Although you built a ventilation solution into the contract price, hidden construction issues once the work commenced on the rear necessitated redesigning the proposed ventilation solution. This could easily have been an opportunity for Interlock to take advantage of the situation, but the pricing of the change was handled by you and your office staff in a very fair manner. The extensive carpentry that became necessary did, I suspect, add the better part of a day to the job, yet the additional cost was nominal for the effort involved. As important as the pricing was to me, it was just as important and most gratifying to see the carpentry skills employed by the installation crew as they implemented the changes. The one concern my wife had in going with a metal roof was noise during a rainstorm, and some severe weather has shown that noise is not a problem. Also, as everyone is aware, July broke heat records, yet my home’s interior has been more comfortable thanks to the reflectivity of the roof. In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome.

Review: September 16, 2007 Completion: July 24, 2007

The Interlock Roofing System installed on our home has changed the entire look of the building. It has made the house stand out from the other homes on the street. I am happy to say that the new roof has met or surpassed all that we had hoped for. Not only has it improved the look of the house, but, as you mentioned, it has lowered the temperature of the second floor during the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot summer months. The snow catchers placed on the front porch look as decorative as well as functional. It is comforting to know as I approach retirement age, that I will never have the expense of replacing the roof again, nor will I have to worry about leaks in the future. I would also like to comment on the work team that did the installation. I have never had a contractor come in and work as hard as they did. They basically worked from dawn to dusk. I was amazed that they were able to complete the job in about two and a half days, especially considering that they had to redo all the sheathing on our roof. I thank you and your workers for a job well done.

Review: September 23, 2004 Completion: September 5, 2003

I am writing to let you know how very pleased my husband and I are with our new Interlock roof. We can't believe how very classy our house looks now. It has gone from just another house on the street to "Wow!, look at that house". We can't tell you how many people have stopped on the side of the road to check out our new roof. We have received many complements. We were amazed at how quickly the installation was from start to finish. The yard was cleaned up each and every day at the end of the work day. You wouldn't even of known that we were in the middle of having our roof done. We couldn't be happier that we have decided to invest in the Interlock Roofing. It is something that will last us a lifetime and one less thing that we will have to worry about later on. We will and have recommended Interlock roofing to anyone in need of a replacement or a new roof.

Review: November 12, 2003 Completion: November 12, 2003

We just had the completion of our new roof. We are happy at how professional the job looks, and how the Interlock material gives the house a different look. It's a very good looking rich roof, we love the way the aluminum pieces interlock each other and make the house look so different than the other roofs. Many of the neighbors have stopped to look at the roof all are impressed how good and nice it looks. The workers were professional, hard workers and fast, and they cleaned up every night. We are very happy and pleased with the decision we made. Finally we do not have to worry about the roof any more.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mount Hope

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mount Hope, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mount Hope.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Rhode Island damage a metal roof?

No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the material expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or curling—the failure modes that plague asphalt and wood in freeze-thaw climates. Mount Hope experiences roughly 83 freeze-thaw days per year, which means your roof cycles between near-freezing and above-freezing conditions frequently. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy simply does not degrade under these conditions; it has been successfully installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Traditional asphalt loses flexibility and splits; wood absorbs water and rots. Aluminum neither rusts nor absorbs moisture, making it the ideal choice for your climate.

How does a metal roof handle Mount Hope's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice faster than asphalt because its smooth, interlocking panel surface offers minimal friction and its light weight—around 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—means no structural reinforcement is required even if snow briefly accumulates. Mount Hope averages about 76 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration during melt cycles, and optional snow guards can be installed if you need to control sliding on steep pitches. Unlike asphalt, which softens and encourages pooling, or heavy slate and tile, which add dead load your structure must support year-round, aluminum provides durability without the weight penalty. The Shake and Tile profiles, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, let you upgrade aesthetics without engineering upgrades.

Can Mount Hope's coastal winds damage four-way interlocking metal panels?

Mount Hope's typical daily-max winds of around 19 km/h and gusts reaching 118 km/h are well within the roofing's design envelope. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, thanks to the four-way interlocking seams that prevent lifting and panel separation. The mechanical lock system distributes wind load across adjacent panels rather than allowing individual sheets to peel up, a critical advantage over fastener-dependent designs. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with International Building Code wind requirements. Coastal homeowners in Rhode Island benefit from a roofing system designed for this climate: the interlocks grip tighter under uplift pressure, not looser.

Does metal roofing qualify for insurance discounts after hail damage in New England?

Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this resilience and offer premium discounts for impact-resistant roofing; you should request a quote from your carrier after installation. Class 4 means the roof has been tested against ice balls striking at speeds simulating severe hail, far exceeding the occasional March nor'easter hail that Rhode Island experiences. Unlike asphalt and wood, which dent and split irreversibly, aluminum's temper (3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy) absorbs impact elastically—it flexes and returns to shape. Combining this durability with the 30-year coating warranty and transferable lifetime limited material warranty means hail risk is substantially mitigated over the roof's life.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing costs more initially but typically costs far less over the roof's life because you buy it once, not three times. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in New England's 1,198 mm annual rainfall and 83 freeze-thaw days; you'll replace it twice before a metal roof needs attention. Metal roofing carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated Guardian Warranty for the original owner and 50 years transferable coverage for the next owner—no time-based degradation. Over 40–50 years, the hidden costs of asphalt (replacement labor, debris disposal, ice-dam repairs) compound, while aluminum requires minimal maintenance and outlasts the house. Current financing is available with no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation, bringing the effective cost closer to a single asphalt replacement while securing permanent durability.

What maintenance does a metal roof need in a high-rain, freeze-thaw climate?

None—that is the core advantage. Metal roofing is essentially maintenance-free: the panels do not split, curl, or crack like wood and asphalt; aluminum does not absorb water and thus does not rot; no seasonal treatments, sealants, or repairs are required. Mount Hope's roughly 1,198 mm of annual rain and 83 freeze-thaw cycles degrade asphalt and shake roofs within years, but aluminum's self-healing oxide layer and four-way interlocking seams shed water and resist expansion stress indefinitely. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty ensures no chalking or fading, and the Guardian Warranty covers splitting and cracking—conditions you would otherwise hire contractors to remedy. This durability is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning your roof generates no service calls, no emergency repairs, and no recurring costs. That is the economics of buying once.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing roof without removal?

Yes. Aluminum roofing is extraordinarily light—the Slate profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—so no structural reinforcement is needed and installation over most existing roofs is feasible without tear-off labor and landfill fees. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and handles site assessment to confirm your structure can accept an overlay; older homes with deteriorated framing typically need the old roof removed, but the lightweight aluminum advantage means fewer buildings require costly reinforcement than with slate or clay tile alternatives. Installation is fast—typically 1–2 weeks depending on roof complexity—and the interlocking panel system means no individual fasteners to count or align, reducing labor hours and installation error. Your local installer can detail the process for your home after a brief inspection.

Does a reflective metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 reduce the heat absorbed through your roof compared to standard asphalt, which absorbs and retains solar energy. Mount Hope receives approximately 3,050 hours of sunshine per year, and while New England summers are mild compared to southern climates, every kilowatt-hour of cooling savings compounds over 50 years. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these thermal properties. The reflective finish also moderates roof surface temperature during winter melt cycles, reducing ice dam formation risk on steep pitches—a secondary benefit in freeze-thaw climates. Lighter-colored metal roofs maintain these reflectance properties indefinitely, whereas asphalt shingles absorb UV, darken, and become less reflective over time. The energy benefit is real but modest in Rhode Island; the primary value is comfort and reduced strain on HVAC systems.

Is aluminum roofing environmentally responsible?

Aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, and the manufacturing process requires no hazardous coatings or disposal procedures. Asphalt roofing, by contrast, generates hundreds of thousands of tons of shingle waste sent to landfills annually; most municipalities cannot recycle it. When you install Interlock roofing, you terminate the cycle of replacing asphalt every 15–20 years and sending it to waste. Mount Hope experiences 1,198 mm of annual rainfall and 83 freeze-thaw cycles—conditions that accelerate asphalt degradation and thus trigger frequent tear-offs and debris disposal. Metal roofing breaks this cycle: a single installation lasts 50+ years, and at end-of-life, aluminum enters the scrap metal supply chain where it is melted and reused indefinitely without quality loss. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) is the same alloy used in aircraft and high-performance applications, designed for a century of service. That durability is sustainability.

What design options are available if I want the look of slate or cedar shake?

Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each with authentic proportions and texture. The Cedar Shingle and Shake profiles replicate traditional wood roofing with dimensioned courses and shadow lines; the Slate profile echoes layered natural stone; the Tile profile mimics clay or concrete barrel tile without the weight penalty. All profiles use the same roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, four-way interlocking seams, Alunar 70% PVDF coating, and Guardian Warranty. Choose based on your home's architectural style and preferred aesthetic: traditional New England colonials often pair with Slate or Cedar Shingle; contemporary homes suit Standing Seam; Mediterranean and Craftsman-style homes suit Tile or Shake. Color options vary by profile, and the 30-year coating warranty ensures your choice does not fade or chalk regardless of Mount Hope's 3,050 annual sunshine hours. Design and durability are not mutually exclusive.
