Review: February 3, 2016

Dear Interlock Industries, We knew that someday we would need a new roof. We had been considering various roofing materials as we have a concern about a plaguing issue of a moss growth problem as a result of fir needle build up. We had to go on the our roof at least one to two times and sometimes more often a month to blow off the roof as the needles would collect everywhere and build up in the roof valleys; plus the additional time necessary to remove the moss. We spent way too much time on the roof. We happened to see the Interlock aluminum roof system and after speaking with staff and our friends and doing some research, we made the decision to have your roof system installed this past fall. We want to let you know that we are happy with the product as well as the style we selected. We had the deep charcoal grey " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate profile installed on our traditional style home. It looks great! Many of the neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. They first thought it would be too commercial looking, but once they saw the end product they were impressed. All the staff from Robin at the Clark County Fair exhibitors’ booth, Mike Rasmussen, Divisional Sales Manager, as well the roof installers were very professional and good in explaining the product, what was involved in the installation, as well as being responsive and open to addressing our questions, comments and concerns. Once the product was ready to be delivered the installation date was confirmed. The installers arrived early on that date and started in on the job. They were diligent on the installation. They did clean up at the end of each day. They were open and encouraged questions and any comments we had. If there was something we noticed that was not quite right they would check and correct. They were as concerned as we were about a quality job done right. The roof does well as the valleys do not collect needles anymore. The only concern/complaint is that the needles do get caught in the interlock sections particularly when it is raining and windy making it difficult to remove them. We have had a lot of rain since the roof was installed so we have not had a chance to really remove the needles. Hopefully once the roof and needles dry out; it will be easier to remove them. But it does appear that we will not have to go on the roof nearly as much as in the past.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lewisville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lewisville, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lewisville.

Does metal roofing handle Lewisville's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum's smooth, non-porous surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt. Lewisville averages about 163 cm of snow annually with roughly 22 freeze-thaw days, which accelerates asphalt deterioration; metal panels resist that cycle entirely. The four-way interlocking system keeps water out, and optional snow guards direct runoff safely. Aluminum won't crack, split, or curl from thermal stress like wood or asphalt do.

With 2,163 mm of annual rainfall, what stops leaks in my metal roof?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels overlap in a pattern that channels water downward and outward, never pooling or seeping upward. Combined with solid deck underlayment, this design handles Lewisville's heavy precipitation without compromise. The mineral oxide layer on aluminum never deteriorates like asphalt or wood fibers, so the seal stays tight for decades. Each panel locks mechanically—no reliance on sealants that dry and fail.

Will my metal roof stay attached in Lewisville's winter wind gusts?

Absolutely. The four-way interlocking system is warranted to withstand wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Lewisville's typical gusts reach about 115 km/h, so you have a safety margin. The interlocking geometry distributes uplift forces across panels rather than concentrating stress on fasteners alone. This is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790, which covers installation for the Pacific Northwest's wind conditions.

Can my existing roof structure handle metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural work needed. The Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete—weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most homes' framing easily carries this load, so installation typically happens over your existing roof without costly modifications. This also speeds installation and eliminates old asphalt tear-off waste.

Does metal roofing qualify for hail-damage insurance discounts?

Metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and The Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurance underwriters recognize this durability; check with your agent about premium reductions. Lewisville's climate data doesn't specify frequent severe hail, but the Class 4 rating protects you from rare events that would shred asphalt or wood. You'll have documentation proving impact resistance if a claim ever arises.

What's the warranty on a metal roof, and does it really last a lifetime?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. It's even transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. Combined with aluminum's inability to rust and a 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244 tested), you're looking at a roof that outlasts every asphalt roof in your neighborhood and most wood roofs too. This is the last major roof you'll likely install.

Why can't aluminum roofing rust like steel, and does salt air matter in Lewisville?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust chemically. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath. If scratched or abraded, this layer reforms automatically—something steel cannot do. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel, adding a 30-year warranted shield. While Lewisville isn't coastal, the protection means decades of zero corrosion concerns even in wet, freezing conditions with occasional road salt drift.

How much maintenance does metal roofing need compared to asphalt or wood?

Dramatically less. Aluminum doesn't split, curl, rot, or shed granules like asphalt. It doesn't absorb moisture like wood shakes, which breed moss and fungi in Lewisville's damp climate (2,163 mm rain, 11.4°C mean temperature). CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Occasional gutter cleaning and removal of debris is all you need. Asphalt requires annual inspections and tar-sealing; wood demands treatment and repair. Metal simply sheds water and lasts.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and enters a circular economy; old metal panels become aircraft, automotive parts, or new roofing. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off and landfilled—millions of tons yearly in North America. Over Lewisville's 2,764 annual sunshine hours and 22 freeze-thaw cycles, asphalt breaks down faster, requiring earlier replacement and more landfill trips. Choosing metal eliminates that cycle and keeps material in productive use for generations.
